In this contest, I entered with probably my most experimental entry. I do not expect to qualify. Been on the bottom of at least 2 sets of odds. But my hope is that I introduced the song to someone who now likes it at least. It's beautiful and charming.

it's very similar to Mint Royale's Singin' In The Rain in concept I think :o a very original song

can't see it doing that well in the contest though :(

Yeah, it is like that song.

I don't see it doing well in the contest either.

Aaron would be elated to have won the contest with both Beverley Knight and Estelle :kink:

I would, considering they're my two favourite artists. (tehcnically I've played Mariah slightly more but I've got 130 odd Mariah songs and 44 Estelle ones) It's always good seeing people liking them as they're both quite under rated on here I think.

But yeah, I'm not gonna win this. I can't actually pick who will win but I know it wont be me.

As for that Pogo song, it really reminds me of the Rivandia entry in the last contest and that managed to qualify, so who knows?

it just stands head and shoulders above the rest of semi 2, at least based on the recap video...(I haven't listened to the songs in full yet :kink:)

perhaps this is just because I'm so familiar with the song though

i haven't even listened to the recap yet

this contest in particular or BJSC in general :o

Problem With Love should scoop up the majority of the R&B votes I would have thought, these are odds to win but I wouldn't be surprised to see it come top ten at all...

This contest. It's quite a cheap contest, so I just wanted to enter something I love.

something non-cheap always tends to win the cheap contests, in XIV practically all of the cheap songs came top ten apart from the boycotted Love Story, along with Velvet and Uh Huh Her

:o Looking back I didn't realise how cheap XIV was, September, Enrique, Ciara, Lady Soverign, VV Brown and Kelly Clarkson all in the top 10 :o. Although Marie Mai making the top 10 was absolutely amazing

forgot about Marie-Mai, huge achievement really, a foreign song reaching the top ten alongside all of those! I know people hate all of the constant moaning about cheap songs and the 'cheap debate' etc...but the only reason it exists is because every time a load of 'cheap' songs are sent at the same time, it usually equates to a weaker contest. The strongest contests are always the ones where completely brilliant songs that would never have been heard by most (or at least not for another good few months) without this competition do well, such as VI, VII, X, XI, XV and XIX

VIII and XIV (the one I hosted and the one I won :snif:) are generally seen as the two weakest contests in the 'post Untouched era' due to all of the well known songs that everyone already knew featuring in the contest :( Mind you, like Tyron said, it does tend to happen every six contests so it should have been expected I guess :o

Which will be Kopecka or FSR Rontvia.. by the way, what does 'Post-Untouched' mean? As in The Veronicas..

sorry, 'Post Untouched' is a term we used to use to describe every contest from VII onwards when it massively swelled in the space of a month

in a nutshell, we were originally going to have a month or more break between V and VI but I found Untouched's Smack Me and said something along the lines of 'I have to send this now', and decisions were made and we brought the contest forward by a month...

So, is it also when people started going less cheap, because Smack Me wasn't known, and most previous winners were by fairly known artists?

Except it didn't win. :P

no, nothing to do with anything like that, just a timeframe issue

a lot of people felt like the contest was losing steam after V and people were becoming less and less interested, so a two month break may have arguably killed it off altogether

pulling it forward just so I could send Untouched before I got bored of it () seemed to reignite the interest in it hugely!

You saved BJSC, Rich!!! :w00t:

not at all, just pulled it forward! as I said at the time, I seemed to be the only one who thought that delaying BJSC for purposes of the ESC was pointless when not everyone who took part in BJSC was a loyal obsessive of the ESC...I would have been so bored of Smack Me by June that it never would have been my entry, I would have skipped straight onto Mine All Mine, and Phil would have never discovered it :kink:
It's all butterfly effect though... how do you know you would have even found Mine All Mine?

That song deserves to have a era named after it.

Without Smack Me, i dunno if we'd still be here or if we'd be a forum on the main page that is growing so quickly we've now got 4mods and the 7th largest post count of any forum,

Maria Haukaas Storeng's album had just come out, and being one of the most amazing entries into ESC, Rich obv tracked down a copy. The rest as they say, is history

It's all butterfly effect though... how do you know you would have even found Mine All Mine?

of course I would have :heehee: I was OBSESSED with Maria at the time
