Posted June 28, 200619 yr Brandon Flowers falls out with emos DigitalSpy: Wednesday, June 28 2006, 15:10 BST - by Daniel Saney Brandon Flowers has revealed his dislike for emo bands, claiming that they could even drive him to violence. Although the genre as a whole riles the Killers' frontman, he has a long-running problem with Fall Out Boy. "You don't realise what you could be getting yourselves into, with Fall Out Boy, and what kind of impact it could have in a way that you don't really want," he warned NME. He went on to explain that Britain could be changed for the worse if such bands are shown too much support. "Culturally, if it gets as big as it is in America, it could change an entire generation of people growing up here. Emo, pop-punk, whatever you want to call it, is dangerous. "We don't wanna dislike anyone, and we've never met Fall Out Boy, but there's a creature inside me that wants to beat all those bands to death," he confessed. Do you agree with Brandon or not?
June 28, 200619 yr Hmmm... I'd state an opinion if I knew what the heck is emo... but I don't, so if someone names some emo band then I'd tell you what I think.

Yes although I feel he is over-reacting a bit. IMO America is stuffed full with shoddy music, like all the samey RnB stuff and all the "Emo" bands, and how airplay contributes towards chart positions. Yes Emo's in Britan are on the uprise in Britan, but I don't have a problem against them, but lets face it I doubt that Emos's will ever be huge in Britan. Sure lots of teenagers are at the "emo" stage but its just a phase IMO, and I doubt that they'll stay like that forever.
June 28, 200619 yr Emo is short for emotional rock so that covers a lot - but specifically it involves rubbish dual guitar and bass chugging riffs and some whiny dick going on about how his girlfriend won't give him head...in an American accent...whether he's American or not. Wasn't Emo a phase a few years ago with Blink 182 and Sum 41? Then, hussah, it went away. Now Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy etc have brought it back...swines. Edited June 28, 200619 yr by richie

June 29, 200619 yr Brandon has not been around for a while and suddenly he is back with some "controversial" news, do I smell a new album coming...
June 29, 200619 yr America's popular music scene in general does seem very depressing. There is so little variety, nearly every rock band that gets airplay in the US sounds the same and every urban act does as well. I don't really agree with Brandon though.
June 29, 200619 yr Brandon needs to lay off the coke I think and worry about making music that will sound good after a years time. I mean, it was fun music, but no one is still listening to his stuff anymore. The Killers were after all quite manufactured...
June 30, 200619 yr "Emo" used to be short for "Emotional Hard Core" and some of it was actually pretty okay (and it used to be the likes of Weezer and Sebadoh that were described as "Emo" back in the day...), but now the term "Emo" just appears to be shorthand for the worst kind of whiny Yank commercial rubbish like Fall Out Boy or Wheatus... <_< But The Killers criticising Emo bands? Come on, pot calling the kettle black innit...? They were a total fad band if ever there was one....
June 30, 200619 yr Emos's will ever be huge in Britan. Sure lots of teenagers are at the "emo" stage but its just a phase IMO, and I doubt that they'll stay like that forever. spot on. it appears like an adolescent joke tbh, i cant see any intelligent human beings being all 'emo' as adults...
June 30, 200619 yr Emo is short for emotional rock so that covers a lot - WTF is 'emotional rock'?... rock is blues and you cant get any more emotionally involved in music then the blues.... rocks been around now for 40 odd years, as a branch of blues. if you want to hear real emotional rock id suggest eric clapton circa 1966 with john mayalls bluesbreakers, or jimi hendrix. i think it should be re-named 'imo', as in 'immature kids rock music'.

It should be renamed as geek shorthand for "in my opinion"? Yeah, I think emo is a $h!t name too, but I didn't invent it. I originally thought it was because all the bands involved were puppets of the music industry. Like emo from sesame street - see what I did there? Rock's been around since about 1950 or so when black DJs coined the phrase with it's original "n roll" suffix...

Rock's been around since about 1950 or so when black DJs coined the phrase with it's original "n roll" suffix... oh i wasnt having a go at you (i quoted what you had put) , i know you were merely saying what the current definition of 'emo' is, and i dont disagree with you. its the definition itself that im knocking. rock n roll though is its own genre and related to, but not generically the same as 'rock' rock :). both deriving from blues and jazz.
June 30, 200619 yr Yesh i agree... Emo's p*** me off too. These bands who sing about how bad their life is and how they have fallen out with their daddys (see simple plan) just cause all these little scene/"alternative" children to be all "omgz i'm so depressed because this guy i like doesn't like me the same way. i think i need to die. whats my place in this world" And they think listening to bands like simple plan, fall out boy etc means they are "alternative" and different. :| Give me chavs anyday.
June 30, 200619 yr Well, now I "know" what emo is I have to say I agree with Brandon. While I fancy bands such as Panic! At The Disco and Kubb (although not sure the latter are emo) I have to say music business wouldn't be great with a LOT of bands like that... they tend to be samey I think. I hate bands such as Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan or Yellowcard, once again I'm not sure they're emo. I prefer a lot The Killers style as they're more pop, Indie/Rock/Pop UK Bands also contribute a lot to musi: Keane, Coldplay, The Feeling, The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys and Hard-Fi are all great on what they do.
June 30, 200619 yr But he hasn't said why he doesn't like them? I think he's talking about the people who are like "Oh I'll buy this because they sound like Fall Out Boy" type people -_- I just hope it's nothing to do with the untrue stereotypes about everyone who listens to any emo bands is depressed and cuts themselves etc... i like some of the bands but too many of them sound the same and talk about the same things like most people have said in this thread.
July 1, 200619 yr "Emo" is beginning to look uncomfortably like a repackaging for Nu Metal to be honest. The term "Nu Metal" isn't 'cool' anymore, so record companies are just rebranding it and making out like its summat different...
