Ashame the Michael Jackson album is out the same day :( Although I don't really know how that's going to do, but I fear it's inevitable

First listen thoughts and scores:

Here are my objective thoughts based on my first listen:

08.0 ∙ 3 Words ∙ A grower! Very moody. It's kind of similar to Alexandra's Good Night Good Morning to these ears.

09.0 ∙ Parachute ∙ This is the cutest song ever recorded. I love the backing track on the verses especially.

07.0 ∙ Heaven ∙ First filler track but it's lovely, the chorus is just a non-event (and that child-like vocal isn't appealing).

09.0 ∙ Fight For This Love ∙ Despite its flaws this really is a great, feel-good song and a deserved success.

08.0 ∙ Rain On Me ∙ I had thought this would be my favourite from the clips but now I'm not sure. That jazzy/tinny element to the production is strange... I can't decide. Nice lyrically though.

07.0 ∙ Make Me Cry ∙ Too repetetive. Nice vibe but there's no hook to keep the interest.

07.0 ∙ Happy Hour ∙ Another case of the full song not living up to the clip. I like her slightly manic vocals but it's a bit of a bore and lyrically inept.

07.5 ∙ Stand Up ∙ I love the middle 8 and musically this is the most interesting in a while but the chorus is a bit of a damp squid.

07.0 ∙ Don't Talk About This Love ∙ Is it Christmas already? How quietly festive this is! Bland but sweet.

08.0 ∙ Boy Like You ∙ What does this sample? Those strings in the backing track are so familiar! This is really hypnotic. A strong closer (I'm ignoring the cheap tacking-on of Heartbreaker).

Overall it's a really cohesive album. There are only a couple of highlights but that doesn't matter since there's nothing terrible either and all of the songs coast along nicely. It's definitely not worth scrutinising her voice too closely, but whoever did her A&R did a good job because the album has a definite vibe, quite moody and seductive. Good job.

WOW! Did Jark just give CHERYL COLE'S album a decent-ish review?!

:P

Anyway. I ADORE '3 Words' now I have the album . Like Jark said, it's a grower and I instantly thought 'Good Night, Good Morning' too! :o

This album is surprising me. I'm liking it far more than I thought I would after hearing the clips! (I'm only up to 'Heaven' though, so I could change my mind :heehee:)

It leaked? Why so early? :snif: Anyway, I for one WON'T be downloading it, I'll wait for my copy to arrive later in the week ^_^

Aw Jark you nearly made me cry

No else comment could matter as much to me. I'm very happy you like it a lot. :)

I'm downloading at the mo and will listen straight after!

can someone send me a link please? I am crap at finding them.
Have it now thanks to Jon :) Will give a review afterwards although 'Parachute' is defo one of my faves I think  And I still think 'Didn't I' should have made the album.

Really impressed, have to say I wasn't expecting to like it as much after the clips.

3 words has grown on me which I didn't expect. I still would have chosen another 2nd single though.

Stand-outs have to be Stand Up, Parachute and Rain On Me (and FFTL of course).

Very pleased the album as solid as it is!
