Gorillaz and Ice Cube to collaborate?

DigitalSpy: Friday, July 21 2006, 10:48 BST - by David Cribb

Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn and hip-hop star Ice Cube have met up to discuss a collaboration.

The pair got together at a VIP room at a London club, with Ice Cube apparently interested in playing a role in the cartoon band's next album.

A source said: “Ice Cube seemed keen — and drank the best cognac. But he was distracted by the conveyor belt of women being brought in.â€

Albarn, however, appeared the less interested party to onlookers, and only stayed in the meeting half an hour before returning to the main area of the club.

Does this sound like a good idea if it happens?

I don't know about this. It seems Gorillaz are always too keen to use rappers and guest stars, and the results aren't always as good as they could be. So, I'll have to wait and see how this turns out.

I'm glad we have some news though, thanks Rich :D

If its anything like the collabirations with Del Lau Soul (or whatever his name is) then I think it'll be good, although I thought Damon had said Gorillaz weren't making another album

There was some confusion, but as it stands I think they ARE making a new one but not for a while. I've heard a lot about getting collaborators etc.

Yeah if they still are doing a new album then I wouldn't expect it to be out about 4 years <_<

Like the last one :( I'll be nearly 22 by then! That's way too long :(

Yeah it will take a long time to produce but i'd rather it be top quality than it all be rushed and doesn't sound very good. I'm hoping that if there is a new album then there will be big collabirations.

What sort of collaborations do you mean? I didn't like the idea of De La Soul or Shaun Ryder but they worked really well. With the phenomenal success of Demon Days this time they should be able to grab some really big names.

I dunno what collaborations i'd like to see, I get the impression that Damon apporoaches like has-beings, who have had there time in the spotlight and would be willing to lend there voclas over to a track. I like the idea of Ice Cube potentially lending his vocals, good rapper and I think it would be similar to De La Soul.

Ice Cube could be ok, but I'm not a fan of rappers. Maybe they approach has-beens because they are cheaper ^_^

Yeah they will be cheaper and they'd be more likely to do it as well due to the fact they do naff all. I'm not a big fan off all rappers but there are some that I really like but I doubt they'd lend their vocals for a track.

Yeh, Kanye West is a good rapper, but he won't do anything with them - guaranteed -_- And if he does it would be "Kanye West ft. Gorillaz" when guest stars don't usually get a credit at all  We'll see what they turn up with though, only a few years to wait  :(

I'm sure they'll be some good guest stars lending there voclas and when there announced i'll probably be like  I was like that with Shaun Ryder at first but now DARE is a classic Gorillaz track.

I agree, I didn't like Dare on the first few listens but now it's my all time fave
