Countries:

* Anyone wishing to participate must come up with the bare minimum of a country name and a capital city, although other details about the country, for example the language and the flag, are encouraged.

* Before every edition a thread will be made asking people for confirmation of their entry - this is the time you must send your "new country" information to the host, if you're hoping to participate for the first time. However, all countries must confirm their participation each time.

* You may only have one country in the BJSC. Discovery of alias countries will lead to you being permanently banned from the BJSC, as well as a short ban on Buzzjack itself for using an alias.

Artists & Songs:

* Artists being used by another country may not be used in the same contest. This includes artists being reserved by another country (but may be used once the artist in question has been discounted from selection by the country in question).

* Artists used by you in the prior contest may not be used for the following contest. This only applies to your entry - the artist may be used in the following contest if they were used by another country in the prior contest.

* Artists who came top 3 in the prior contest may not be used for the following contest.

* Songs may not have taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest, but people are free to send songs which have taken part in national finals for the ESC but did not get selected as ESC entries.

* Songs may be covers [but may not be covers of ESC songs, or covers of songs that have been used already in the contest].

* Songs can be in any language.

* Countries may use a "national final" or an "internal selection" to choose their entries.

* Songs can have been released at any time.

* Songs may not have been used in previous contests, however they may have been used in previous National Finals, but only if unsuccessful.

* NB: Although you can enter any song you like (provided it hasn't already been entered for Eurovision before) it's far far better if you don't choose something that everyone will already know. Part of the fun of this contest is discovering new music! :D

* If an artist has an active Artist Forum on Buzzjack, you may not enter the first two singles of their upcoming album era. Previous eras are free to be plundered, however. This includes the first two singles of a solo album were the AF is for a band [ie Keisha Buchanan is covered by the Sugababes Forum, Kelly Rowland & Beyonce / Destiny's Child, Cheryl Cole et al / Girls Aloud and so on]

* If a song has been banned by the banlist, it cannot be used for the contest it has been banned for, or the one after.

* Any songs performed by the cast of US TV show 'Glee' in connection with the show may not be entered. A song from a cast members previous working life [such as Lea Michelle on Broadway] are allowable.

Hosting:

* The right to host goes automatically to the winner of the previous edition. If for any reason the previous winner cannot, or does not want to, host, then the right falls to the second placed, then the third, the fourth, and so on. The host is expected to take care of the song presentation and the presentation of the results, as well as collecting the songs and votes in the first place.

Voting:

* The nations must PM their points to the organizing country. These points are: 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point.

* If a country does not submit its votes on time, it will have a deduction from its score. Deductions are up to the discretion of the host, but are typically 33%.

* Eliminated semi finalists must vote in the final if they expect to participate next time, and prequalified finalists must vote in the semi final, otherwise they will be removed from the final.

* Revealing your votes before they are officially announced is not allowed.

* Making 'deals' with other countries (example - swapping votes) is not allowed.

Punishment:

* Infringing any of these rules will lead to disqualification from the current and following contest as well as a retraction of any votes given by the offending nation if any.

Oh ffs. Do these rules still apply? Or can I not use Johnny Cash? :manson: I mean, the Nine Inch Nails version and the Cash version are hardly the same.

I think so, someone wanted to send The Feeling with "Video Killed The Radio Star" and it was decided that it wouldn't be allowed. I haven't heard either versions of the song in question but I would assume the same rules apply.

Oh right. Back to the drawing board then. :manson:

I'd completely forgotten about the NIN version, it was so terrible

but yeah, I'd pick something else

Pick something else, we already have millions of songs we've already heard so far in this contest...

Sorry for bumping this. I have a few questions regarding the voting. If you are in the semi-final... you vote in the semi-final, right? And if you progress to the final, you don't vote?

If you're in the semi-final, which most people except for 1 or 2 will be, then you vote in the semi-final you are drawn into.

Then everybody votes in the final, regardless of whether they have qualified or not.

Just another thingo (sorry!):

Songs may not have taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest (or the Junior version), nor may they have taken part in a national final for the (J)ESC.

When you say National Final, do you mean the final night of the selections or just the whole selection process?

(I ask a lot of questions, sorry!)

the whole selection process...

if it was in any National Final ever, or associated in any way, then it can't be used

I think it means that a song that was written with the intention of it being entered to Eurovision and any song that took part in National Final.

For example we wouldn't be able to enter Leona Daly - Not crazy after all even though it wasn't actually entered in the Eurovision song contest.

Well, for example, I don't know if you watched the UK entry being picked this year. But Andy was competing with five other songs and 'artists' to be picked. None of these songs he was competing against could be used. So we wouldn't be allowed to send Michelle Gayle with "Woo (You Make Me)" for example. This rule is the same for any other country that holds national finals, such as Melodifestivalen or an equivalent.

I don't know if I answered you properly. If you meant a song that was considered for a national final, but wasn't actually involved in it in the end then I'm not sure what the rules for that that is.

edit - oops, got beat to it - twice! :P

I'd never want to send anything from a UK national final but Melodifestivalen is a breeding ground for amazing pop songs

I have got over this small hurdle by using MF artists (Sanna Nielsen, Andreas Johnson, Sibel) with different songs

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< :o

These rules really do need updating! :heehee:

Is there anything else to know about then? Do the songs have to have vocals?

They don't have to have vocals, but instrumental tracks aren't particularly noted for their popularity :heehee: It's also an unwritten rule that entries shouldn't be cheap as hell (i.e. recent chart hits, first release off massively popular artist's upcoming album etc.), but this rule is one that is sadly broken from time to time :(

OK thanks :D , i've got 5 entries in mind, 4 of which are instrumentals, 2 of which are pre-2006. I'll start a national thread today for BJSC XIII! :w00t:
