Chart Commentary: Week 130
I've decided to go back to basics this week and bring back in the old, simplistic style of my older charts. It's a welcome return of the old logo, which has been freshend up a little bit, as have all the graphics used in this week's chart. Hope you like it as personally i'm chuffed to bits with how it's turned out! In actual chart-related news, MGMT spend a 4th week at no.1, but they're under increasing pressure as theres been some real quality entering the chart recently. One song in particular that has caught my attention is Bloc Party's 'Talons' which came bundled with the downloadable version of their 'Intimacy' album. It's an excellent track, and it's unlucky that it hasn't gifted Bloc Party their second TOTB no.1. Another band in the hunt for a second number one are the Last Shadow Puppets, with their latest release 'My Mistakes...'. This is easily my favourite track from their 'Age Of The Understatement' album, and could very well see them become the first band since Stereophonics last year to have two no.1s. albeit not consecutively. This influx of incredible new releases sees White Lies pushed down to no.4 after a 3-week strong spell in 2nd place. Oasis benefit from the re-arrangement, however, as they've climbed back into the top 5 with 'The Shock Of The Lightning'. A new entry at no.6 sees chart regulars Keane return to the top ten. 'The Lovers Are Losing' is the first (official) release from their forthcoming 3rd studio album 'Perfect Symmetry', and it's actually quite good. It should see them safely into the top 5 shortly. That leaves 3 fallers and a non-mover in what is a pretty mixed bag at the bottom of the chart. The pick of which, 'Mountains' looks sadly like it has spent its last week in the top 10

1: MGMT - Kids - Amazing song by an amazing new act (they are a new act, aren't they?). By Mykul standards this should be setting the charts alight when released next week, but will it really happen in the end?

 

2: Bloc Party - Talons - How good have the Bloc Party become? I've always liked them anyways but not this much. Every week you introduce me to amazing tracks that I end up loving. This, of course, was no exception.

 

3: The Last Shadow Puppets - My Mistakes Were Made For You - Haven't heard so I can't rant about it, pity.

 

4: White Lies - Death - My current personal No.1 so yes, I fancy the track, I have sex with the track, I kiss the track all over, etc.

 

5: Oasis - The Shock Of The Lightning - Haven't heard but don't have my hopes up actually, cause I haven't liked Oasis' latest stuff to be frank.

 

6: Keane - The Lovers Are Losing - and we are winning with this great Keane track! Would you agree?

 

7: Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire - I can't believe this has grown this lot on me in the last couple of weeks.

Talons is deffo up there with their best, I fully agree. Would be no.1 any other week, but there's that much quality atm im struggling to put my top 5 into order :lol:

I prefer the debut in all honesty, but thats not to say the new one doesn't have its moments. I think 'Ways To Make It Through The Wall' is one of my fave Los Campesinos singles to date, and I love 'You'll Need Those Fingers For Crossing' and 'We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed'. It's a positive change in direction for the band though ^_^
