  1. No Matter What is lovely, it's a great song for a musical, and a great recording of it, thanks to Stephen Gateley's vocals. Andrew L-W very much knows a good singer when he hears one, and wisely kept Ronan as the back-up to the main act here. It just wouldnt have had the same charm with Ronan on lead.
  2. I liked the retro clips and vibes on this one - and it was better than NKOTB records! Oops!
  3. Martika's Prince-linked was a goodie, classy. I was never that bovvered by Insanity, but I might have been a bit more of a fan if I'd known then that a clubbing mate of Jorinde from the 80's would end up a close friend of mine in the early 2000's. He was in Australia when they broke through. Ian says Hi Jorinde!
  4. I liked both of these at the time, the frantic beats on It's Like That were quite compelling, and the chanting Run DMC bits made a nice bonus later career success, and Goodbye was quite pleasant and a bit touching in theme. I dont ever playlist either track, the former because it still crops up enough on radio to satisfy, the latter because they had better ballads.
  5. 17th November 1975 It's a big leap to the top spot for Steeleye Span's All Around My Hat - a Mike Batt song & production, his second of the year to hit the top spot and a couple of weeks behind the band putting Wombles suits on for a short-notice Wombles appearance on Top Of The Pops, and going up to 5 with his own darker House Of The Clown. Maxine Nightingale meanwhile leaps to 3 with her Motown-ish Right Back Where We Started From, and Van McCoy gets a second top 10 with the stomping Change With The Times. And Queen's 3-part epic Bo Rap crawls up for a 3rd top 10, but seems to be struggling to become their 3rd chart-topper. I bet a new promo video would help! In at 29, Austin Robert's US hit, Rocky, makes the UK chart too, and Supertramp get a follow-up chart entry with Lady - a UK flop, sadly. New at 32 as Silver Convention get a second chart hit with Fly Robin Fly at 49, a huge disco track in the USA for a European track, and at 50 it's 60's US soul band The Impressions finally getting a UK hit - and Curtis Mayfield is long gone from the line-up. First Impressions is decent enough, though it's more of a late new track bonus than a dive into back catalogue quality material. 1 ( 27 ) ALL AROUND MY HAT Steeleye Span 2 ( 4 ) IMAGINE John Lennon 3 ( 19 ) RIGHT BACK WHERE WE STARTED FROM Maxine Nightingale 4 ( 14 ) CHANGE WITH THE TIMES Van McCoy & The Soul City Symphony 5 ( 8 ) HOUSE OF THE CLOWN Mike Batt 6 ( 1 ) RHINESTONE COWBOY Glen Campbell 7 ( 1 ) SPACE ODDITY David Bowie 8 ( 3 ) DIZZY Tommy Roe 9 ( 7 ) SOMETHING IN THE AIR Thunderclap Newman 10 ( 13 ) BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY Queen 11 ( 12 ) SKY HIGH Jigsaw 12 ( 6 ) NEW YORK GROOVE Hello 13 ( 5 ) HIGH FLY John Miles 14 ( 18 ) WHY DID YOU DO IT Stretch 15 ( 17 ) LOVE HURTS Jim Capaldi 16 ( 25 ) YOU SEXY THING Hot Chocolate 17 ( 10 ) NIGHTS ON BROADWAY The Bee Gees 18 ( 9 ) BLUE GUITAR Justin Hayward & John Lodge 19 ( 16 ) BORN TO RUN Bruce Springsteen 20 ( 21 ) I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU Art Garfunkel 21 ( 35 ) OUR DAY WILL COME Frankie Valli 22 ( 36 ) I COULD HAVE DANCED ALL NIGHT Biddu 23 ( 29 ) MAN OF THE WORLD Fleetwood Mac 24 ( 15 ) IN A BROKEN DREAM Python Lee Jackson featuring Rod Stewart 25 ( 26 ) WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MADE Esther Phillips 26 ( 20 ) LOVE IS THE DRUG Roxy Music 27 ( 23 ) (ALL I HAVE TO DO IS) DREAM Al Matthews 28 ( 37 ) LYIN’ EYES The Eagles 29 ( NEW ) ROCKY Austin Roberts 30 ( 11 ) BAD BLOOD Neil Sedaka 31 ( 22 ) DREAMY LADY T.Rex 32 ( NEW ) LADY Supertramp 33 ( 32 ) TWEEDLE DEE TWEEDLE DUM Middle Of The Road 34 ( 33 ) CHIRPY CHIRPY CHEEP CHEEP Middle Of The Road 35 ( 34 ) SOLEY SOLEY Middle Of The Road 36 ( 31 ) ROCK ON BROTHER The Chequers 37 ( 28 ) YOU’VE GOT ME RUNNING Smiley 38 ( 46 ) DARLIN’ David Cassidy 39 ( 44 ) LITTLE DARLIN’ The Rubettes 40 ( 30 ) HOLD BACK THE NIGHT The Trammps 41 ( 42 ) RIDE A WILD HORSE Dee Clark 42 ( 41 ) ISLAND GIRL Elton John 43 ( 49 ) JUST A SMILE Pilot 44 ( 48 ) (ALL I HAVE TO DO IS) DREAM The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band 45 ( 47 ) LOVE GROWS (WHERE MY ROSEMARY GOES) Edison Lighthouse 46 ( 24 ) TRAIL OF THE LONESOME PINE Laurel & Hardy 47 ( 50 ) THIS OLD HEART OF MINE Rod Stewart 48 ( 40 ) RIVER DEEP MOUNTAIN HIGH Lois Lane 49 ( NEW ) FLY ROBIN FLY Silver Convention 50 ( NEW ) FIRST IMPRESSIONS The Impressions
  6. 21st November 1993 It's the last few days of the Florida holiday, and a few days back in the UK, so the chart is a mix of both scenes with more re-entries, and the Bee Gees return to the top spot for a second week as they appear live on TV doing oldies. Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 1985 number 2 returns to reach the same peak as highest new entry, just ahead of US hit Ooh Child from Dino, a remake of a fairly obscure early 70's goodie. Great song, and a US hit both times. Hot on Florida pop radio, Blind Melon enter at 6 with No Rain, by this time I was recording stuff off the radio direct onto my radio/cassette recorder, so lots of period goodies I really should post online for nostalgia. Back in the UK, Kate Bush has Moments Of Pleasure in at 7, the usual classy stuff - and who knew there would be nothing much for another 15 years! Soul Asylum also big in Orlando, and leap to 9 with the fab Runaway Train. Meat Loaf finally cracks the top 10 with his Monster hit, 12 years on from Bat Out Of Hell doing it. The Doobie Brothers, criminally, never had a UK hit with Long Train Runnin' though Bananarama bagged a cover version, which has no doubt helped the remix finally chart and in here at 15 - it's good, the original is better. Lisa Keith, fresh from the US charts, leaps in at 18 with Better Than You, and Lonnie Gordon is also getting airplay there and returns at 25. Bazza Manilow gets the remix treatment too, Could It Be Magic popping in at 40, having gone top 10 in 1979 for me. Belinda Carlisle is laying down her arms at 50, Mr. Big cover Wild World to lesser effect than many before, Heart ask Will You Be There In The Morning, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince return with a new track, I'm Looking For The One To Be With, at 59, it Feels Like Heaven to Urban Cookie Collective, Terence Trent D'Arby is new at 62 with Let Her Down Easy, ahead of Crowded House's Nails In My Feet, 3 Tony's getting another chart entry, Michael Bolton crooning, Bryan Adams, Sting and Rod Stewart collaborating on a movie dirge, Jodeci and Guns'n'Roses all getting US plugs, and in the UK The Orb and Def Leppard pop in from the charts. One of the biggest ever chart invasions, well over one-third turnover. 1 ( 2 ) FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS The Bee Gees 2 ( NEW ) WELCOME TO THE PLEASUREDOME Frankie Goes To Hollywood 3 ( NEW ) OOH CHILD Dino 4 ( 1 ) GO WEST Pet Shop Boys 5 ( 7 ) AGAIN Janet Jackson 6 ( NEW ) NO RAIN Blind Melon 7 ( NEW ) MOMENTS OF PLEASURE Kate Bush 8 ( 11 ) PAYING THE PRICE OF LOVE The Bee Gees 9 ( 29 ) RUNAWAY TRAIN Soul Asylum 10 ( 18 ) I'D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE (BUT I WON'T DO THAT) Meatloaf 11 ( 4 ) YOU OWE IT ALL TO ME Texas 12 ( 3 ) PLAY DEAD David Arnold/ Bjork 13 ( 6 ) MORE AND MORE Captain Hollywood Project 14 ( 5 ) LIFE Haddaway 15 ( NEW ) LONG TRAIN RUNNIN’ ’93 The Doobie Brothers 16 ( 9 ) ANOTHER SAD LOVE SONG Toni Braxton 17 ( 24 ) ALL THAT SHE WANTS Ace Of Bass 18 ( NEW ) BETTER THAN YOU Lisa Keith 19 ( 13 ) WHAT IS LOVE Haddaway 20 ( 15 ) THE RIVER OF DREAMS Billy Joel 21 ( 8 ) RAIN Madonna 22 ( 14 ) RELAX Frankie Goes To Hollywood 23 ( 10 ) AS TIME GOES BY Jimmy Durante 24 ( 39 ) PLEASE FORGIVE ME Bryan Adams 25 ( NEW ) HAPPENING ALL OVER AGAIN Lonnie Gordon 26 ( 37 ) BREAK IT DOWN AGAIN Tears For Fears 27 ( 12 ) THIS GARDEN The Levellers 28 ( 17 ) CRYIN' Aerosmith 29 ( 19 ) RELIGHT MY FIRE Take That / Lulu 30 ( 16 ) MIRACLE GOODNIGHT David Bowie 31 ( 21 ) DREAM LOVER Mariah Carey 32 ( 22 ) MOONLIGHT SHADOW Mike Oldfield 33 ( RE ) I DROVE ALL NIGHT Roy Orbison 34 ( 20 ) CANTALOOP US3 35 ( RE ) DEMOLITION MAN Sting 36 ( 73 ) TRUE LOVE Elton John and Kiki Dee 37 ( 60 ) LAID James 38 ( 35 ) IF Janet Jackson 39 ( 33 ) RIGHT HERE (HUMAN NATURE) SWV 40 ( NEW ) COULD IT BE MAGIC ’93 Barry Manilow 41 ( 23 ) BUMPED Right Said Fred 42 ( 32 ) MICHELLE The Beatles 43 ( 31 ) GANGSTERS The Specials 44 ( 68 ) LUV 4 LUV Robin S 45 ( 25 ) PASS IT ON Bitty McLean 46 ( 27 ) MR VAIN Culture Beat 47 ( RE ) (I CAN'T) HELP FALLIN' IN LOVE WITH YOU UB40 48 ( 26 ) FEEL LIKE MAKING LOVE Pauline Henry 49 ( 74 ) HEY JEALOUSY Gin Blossoms 50 ( NEW ) LAY DOWN YOUR ARMS Belinda Carlisle 51 ( 50 ) EAGLE/DANCING QUEEN Abba 52 ( 75 ) BECAUSE THE NIGHT 10000 Maniacs 53 ( 28 ) STAY Eternal 54 ( NEW ) WILD WORLD Mr. Big 55 ( 62 ) SWEAT (A LA LA LA LONG) Inner Circle 56 ( 30 ) RING OF FIRE Johnny Cash 57 ( RE ) HIGHER GROUND UB40 58 ( NEW ) WILL YOU BE THERE IN THE MORNING Heart 59 ( NEW ) I’M LOOKING FOR THE ONE TO BE WITH DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince 60 ( 58 ) 20th CENTURY BOY T.Rex 61 ( NEW ) FEELS LIKE HEAVEN Urban Cookie Collective 62 ( NEW ) LET HER DOWN EASY Terence Trent D’Arby 63 ( NEW ) NAILS IN MY FEET Crowded House 64 ( 67 ) DREAMS Gabrielle 65 ( 64 ) YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVIN' FEELIN' The Righteous Brothers 66 ( 65 ) HEY JUDE/ REVOLUTION The Beatles 67 ( NEW ) ANNIVERSARY Tony! 7. yeah, sorry, I can't encourage Mr Brightside to increase its weekly and never-ending exposure. For goodness sake just stream some other (brilliant) Killers and Brandon Flowers tracks for a month and give us all a break! 😇I'm beginning to think it's a Golden Oldies playlist to blame, the one that has Everywhere, Dreams, The Chain, and many others on it too....oops!
  8. Well I certainly wont argue with that top 5 - same as mine slightly shuffled! 🙂
  9. ooh tough choices for me here, but these 5 are essential: Abba - One Of Us Bucks Fizz - The Land Of Make Believe The Human League - Don't You Want Me Kim Wilde - Cambodia Madness - It Must Be Love so no room for Queen/Bowie, Godley & Creme, Adam, EW&F, Dollar...
  10. The Cup Of Life is pretty good, pity it wasnt a proper hit. Latin footie tracks often bomb but are big elsewhere. Germany still loves Three Lions, I think it must be to do with defiance in the face of losing - which they did in 1966 and bounced back to win in later years.
  11. I still prefer the original Three Lions, anthem, but this version was good too. Dario G was my chart-topper though, total banger!!
  12. 36 and 39's Friday, well done! round 1: 39 round 2: 39 tie-breaker: yes, and both contestants did well 😎 3 in 10: Banana Republic, I Dont Like Mondays, Rat Trap Edit: and well done jade!! full house 🤩
  13. 26th November 1995 It's hectic at the top end as Earth Song gets 3 weeks on top and holds off an event - the first official Beatles single in 25 years. Free As A Bird was a cassette demo Yoko Ono gave to the fabs, along with Real Love and Now And Then, songs of John Lennon that weren't developed by the time of his murder in 1980, and together with mate Jeff Lynne they came up with 3 minor gems (eventually). The first two to appear on editions of double album Anthology series of 3 album releases featuring rare and alternative takes on catalogue Beatles stuff tarted up a bit. Free As A Bird had a nostalgic video, state of the art, and was promo'd to radio ahead of Anthology 1, with no single release to boost album sales week one. This was a bad mistake as it must have lost a lot of sales to the single when it came out week 2 or 3 and peaked at 2 in the chart instead of 1. That annoyed me, even if it was held off here by Earth Song as well! Real Love meanwhile pops in unofficially at 76 months ahead of its release on Anthology 2. Anthology 4 will be out in 2025 soon, with the revamped AI versions of John's vocal on these two tracks, and their 2023 chart-topper which has already been AI'd for crisper vocals. Blur are up to 5, unlucky to get blocked with big releases, and Definition Of Sound also slot into the top 10 nicely. Lower down, Tina Arena covers Maria McKee, Roxette remix 1989's The Look, and fellow Scandi-pop The Wannadies return with Might Be Stars at 38. Jam & Spoon follow-up their top 10 with Angel for a spot of dance. at 40. Celine Dion is Misled at 47 - or as I pronounced it before I knew how to pronounce it in the early 70's: Myzulled. On the Country Music video channel Emmylou Harris' new album (which is great) Wrecking Ball debuts the title track (a Neil Young song) at 51 - Daniel Lanois of U2 fame produced, and as it wasnt available as a single I bought the album eventually, in Florida. Simply Red are Remembering The First Time at 58, but I can only vaguely remember this song, no doubt pleasant as usual, Black Grape reference a 60's movie, Kelly's Heroes, Diana Ross claims she's gone, but she isn't, Boom Shake The Room gets a belated remix for no reason, and The Beatles take over my playlist. Quite right too. 1 ( 1 ) EARTH SONG Michael Jackson 2 ( NEW ) FREE AS A BIRD The Beatles 3 ( 3 ) WONDERWALL Oasis 4 ( 2 ) MISSING (TODD TERRY REMIX) Everything But The Girl 5 ( 12 ) THE UNIVERSAL Blur 6 ( 4 ) THEME FROM “PEOPLE’S CENTURY” Zbignieuw Preisner 7 ( 7 ) ANYWHERE IS Enya 8 ( 29 ) PASS THE VIBES Definition Of Sound 9 ( 5 ) LUCKY LOVE Ace Of Base 10 ( 8 ) GOLDENEYE Tina Turner 11 ( 9 ) IT’S OH SO QUIET Bjork 12 ( 32 ) GOLD Prince 13 ( 10 ) YOU’LL SEE Madonna 14 ( 11 ) GANGSTA’S PARADISE Coolio featuring LV 15 ( 6 ) WISHES OF HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY Sacred Spirit 16 ( 17 ) UNTIL MY DYING DAY UB40 17 ( 14 ) DIGGIN’ ON YOU TLC 18 ( 15 ) HE’S ON THE PHONE Saint Etienne 19 ( 41 ) HAPPINESS Pizzaman featuring Norman Cook 20 ( 50 ) PERFECT PJ & Duncan 21 ( 24 ) DISCO 2000 Pulp 22 ( 16 ) HUNGRY HEART Bruce Springsteen 23 ( 13 ) I’D LIE FOR YOU (AND THAT’S THE TRUTH) Meat Loaf 24 ( 45 ) SOMETHING SO RIGHT Annie Lennox 25 ( 21 ) ALRIGHT Cast 26 ( 19 ) HAND IN MY POCKET Alanis Morissette 27 ( 18 ) WHEN LOVE AND HATE COLLIDE Def Leppard 28 ( NEW ) SHOW ME HEAVEN Tina Arena 29 ( 25 ) FAIRGROUND Simply Red 30 ( 22 ) FANTASY Mariah Carey 31 ( 20 ) EVERYBODY SAY EVERYBODY DO Let Loose 32 ( 34 ) ITCHYCOO PARK M People 33 ( 23 ) UP ON THE ROOF/ I BELIEVE Robson Jerome 34 ( 28 ) STAYIN’ ALIVE N’Trance 35 ( NEW ) THE LOOK ’95 Roxette 36 ( 38 ) I WISH Skee-Lo 37 ( 27 ) 2000 MILES (ACOUSTIC) The Pretenders 38 ( NEW ) MIGHT BE STARS The Wannadies 39 ( 26 ) HEAVEN FOR EVERYONE Queen 40 ( NEW ) ANGEL Jam & Spoon 41 ( 33 ) A CHANGE IS GONNA COME/A KIND OF CHRISTMAS CARD Morten Harket 42 ( 37 ) EXHALE (SHOOP SHOOP) Whitney Houston 43 ( 53 ) MISS SARAJEVO The Passengers 44 ( 36 ) RUNAWAY/WHEN I THINK OF YOU (REMIX) Janet Jackson 45 ( 31 ) WALKING IN MEMPHIS Cher 46 ( 40 ) SORTED FOR E’S AND WHIZZ/MISSHAPES Pulp 47 ( NEW ) MISLED Celine Dion 48 ( 42 ) WATERFALLS TLC 49 ( 39 ) LUCKY YOU The Lightning Seeds 50 ( 72 ) PRETENDERS TO THE THRONE The Beautiful South 51 ( NEW ) WRECKING BALL Emmylou Harris 52 ( 65 ) WHADDYA YOU WANT FROM ME Frankie Knuckles & Adeva 53 ( 30 ) THE POWER (OF ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD) D:Ream 54 ( 43 ) WHERE THE WILD ROSES GROW Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue 55 ( 46 ) 74 - ’75 The Connells 56 ( 52 ) I FEEL LOVE ’95 Donna Summer 57 ( 35 ) SENTIMENTAL Deborah Cox 58 ( NEW ) REMEMBERING THE FIRST TIME Simply Red 59 ( 48 ) CAN I TOUCH YOU...THERE Michael Bolton 60 ( 64 ) RHYTHM OF LIFE (REMIX) Oleta Adams 61 ( 44 ) KID (ACOUSTIC) The Pretenders 62 ( 61 ) DANCING QUEEN/EAGLE Abba 63 ( 71 ) LIE TO ME Bon Jovi 64 ( 62 ) BACK FOR GOOD Take That 65 ( 73 ) FINGERS AND THUMBS (COLD SUMMER’S DAY) Erasure 66 ( 66 ) YOU’VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING The Righteous Brothers 67 ( 63 ) HAPPY JUST TO BE WITH YOU Michelle Gayle 68 ( 56 ) RELAX Crystal Waters 69 ( NEW ) KELLY’S HEROES Black Grape 70 ( 69 ) NO MORE ‘I LOVE YOU’S Annie Lennox 71 ( 70 ) A GIRL LIKE YOU Edwyn Collins 72 ( 55 ) DON’T YOU WANT ME (REMIX) Human League 73 ( 60 ) U KRAZY KATS PJ & Duncan 74 ( NEW ) I’M GONE Diana Ross 75 ( NEW ) BOOM SHAKE THE ROOM ’95 DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince 76 ( NEW ) REAL LOVE The Beatles playlist 1 REAL LOVE The Beatles 2 THE RUNNER The Three Degrees 3 TICKET TO RIDE The Beatles 4 NOWHERE MAN The Beatles
  14. 19th November 1995 It's 2 weeks on top for Earth Song, as Everything But The Girl get a late surge to 2 with their classic remix of Missing, for a pretty powerful top 4. Ace Of Base are back on top 10 form, meanwhile, as Lucky Love clicks properly and up to 5 for a 3rd top 10, just ahead of the charity Native American track at 6, and Enya also grabbing her 3rd solo top 10 with Anywhere Is. Tina Turner meanwhile takes her Bond theme to 8 for a top 10 run of 22 years since Nutbush City Limits became her one and only chart-topper, with the Ex. Bjork, meanwhile, in a very hectic top 10, grabs a quiet 3rd top 10 in the same week she grabs a 4th top 10 30 years later. Highest new entry is an acoustic version of The Pretenders 1983 Christmas goodie 2000 Miles, at 27, Prince has a Gold record out at 32, and one of his better efforts of late, while Skee-Lo debuts with a catchy, quirky goodie I Wish at 38. Still fun that one. Norman Cook is second only to Jonathan King in the number of aliases he has charted with, this time it's Pizzaman, having a slice of Happiness at 41. Annie Lennox does Something So Right at 45 - she's covered Paul Simon! Ant & Dec havent yet switched to their real names, but keep the surprsingly long run of hits coming with Perfect at 50, for them a real slowdown in tempo, and quite nice. I think if anyone ever played their hits (as if!) they might be surprised at the variety. That and the light vocals. Down lower end, Crystal Waters is Relax-ing, not Frankie Goes To Hollywood, at 56, Oleta Adams is resorting to a remix for Rhythm Of Life, and Frankie Knuckles is housing it up with Adeva on What Do You Want From Me at 65. Others: Happy Clappers, I Believe are at 67, Therapy think about Diane, 68, neither of which I recall, Bon Jovi Lie To Me at 71, and ditto, while Sean MaGuire covers The Real Thing needlessly at 75. The Beautiful South and Erasure both pop up with new tracks that aren't generally remembered these days, Pretenders To The Throne, and Fingers And Thumbs. I will play them again if they get near the top end of my chart - at this point I don't know! 1 ( 1 ) EARTH SONG Michael Jackson 2 ( 3 ) MISSING (TODD TERRY REMIX) Everything But The Girl 3 ( 2 ) WONDERWALL Oasis 4 ( 4 ) THEME FROM “PEOPLE’S CENTURY” Zbignieuw Preisner 5 ( 13 ) LUCKY LOVE Ace Of Base 6 ( 26 ) WISHES OF HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY Sacred Spirit 7 ( 33 ) ANYWHERE IS Enya 8 ( 17 ) GOLDENEYE Tina Turner 9 ( 29 ) IT’S OH SO QUIET Bjork 10 ( 5 ) YOU’LL SEE Madonna 11 ( 6 ) GANGSTA’S PARADISE Coolio featuring LV 12 ( 22 ) THE UNIVERSAL Blur 13 ( 11 ) I’D LIE FOR YOU (AND THAT’S THE TRUTH) Meat Loaf 14 ( 15 ) DIGGIN’ ON YOU TLC 15 ( 8 ) HE’S ON THE PHONE Saint Etienne 16 ( 14 ) HUNGRY HEART Bruce Springsteen 17 ( 9 ) UNTIL MY DYING DAY UB40 18 ( 10 ) WHEN LOVE AND HATE COLLIDE Def Leppard 19 ( 12 ) HAND IN MY POCKET Alanis Morissette 20 ( 7 ) EVERYBODY SAY EVERYBODY DO Let Loose 21 ( 32 ) ALRIGHT Cast 22 ( 16 ) FANTASY Mariah Carey 23 ( 23 ) UP ON THE ROOF Robson Jerome 24 ( 24 ) DISCO 2000 Pulp 25 ( 18 ) FAIRGROUND Simply Red 26 ( 20 ) HEAVEN FOR EVERYONE Queen 27 ( NEW ) 2000 MILES (ACOUSTIC) The Pretenders 28 ( 28 ) STAYIN’ ALIVE N’Trance 29 ( 47 ) PASS THE VIBES Definition Of Sound 30 ( 19 ) THE POWER (OF ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD) D:Ream 31 ( 27 ) WALKING IN MEMPHIS Cher 32 ( NEW ) GOLD Prince 33 ( 21 ) A CHANGE IS GONNA COME/A KIND OF CHRISTMAS CARD Morten Harket 34 ( 35 ) ITCHYCOO PARK M People 35 ( 48 ) SENTIMENTAL Deborah Cox 36 ( 34 ) RUNAWAY/WHEN I THINK OF YOU (REMIX) Janet Jackson 37 ( 40 ) EXHALE (SHOOP SHOOP) Whitney Houston 38 ( NEW ) I WISH Skee-Lo 39 ( 36 ) LUCKY YOU The Lightning Seeds 40 ( 25 ) SORTED FOR E’S AND WHIZZ/MISSHAPES Pulp 41 ( NEW ) HAPPINESS Pizzaman featuring Norman Cook 42 ( 38 ) WATERFALLS TLC 43 ( 37 ) WHERE THE WILD ROSES GROW Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue 44 ( 31 ) KID (ACOUSTIC) The Pretenders 45 ( NEW ) SOMETHING SO RIGHT Annie Lennox 46 ( 43 ) 74 - ’75 The Connells 47 ( 30 ) LIKE A ROLLING STONE The Rolling Stones 48 ( 42 ) CAN I TOUCH YOU...THERE Michael Bolton 49 ( 41 ) LIGHT OF MY LIFE Louise 50 ( NEW ) PERFECT PJ & Duncan 51 ( 65 ) B 2 GETHER The Original 52 ( 52 ) I FEEL LOVE ’95 Donna Summer 53 ( 53 ) MISS SARAJEVO The Passengers 54 ( 49 ) CAMDEN TOWN Suggs 55 ( 55 ) DON’T YOU WANT ME (REMIX) Human League 56 ( NEW ) RELAX Crystal Waters 57 ( 73 ) AIN’T NOBODY Diana King 58 ( 45 ) WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL Alison Krauss 59 ( 71 ) BOOMBASTIC Shaggy 60 ( 44 ) U KRAZY KATS PJ & Duncan 61 ( 61 ) DANCING QUEEN/EAGLE Abba 62 ( 62 ) BACK FOR GOOD Take That 63 ( 60 ) HAPPY JUST TO BE WITH YOU Michelle Gayle 64 ( NEW ) RHYTHM OF LIFE (REMIX) Oleta Adams 65 ( NEW ) WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME Frankie Knuckles & Adeva 66 ( 66 ) YOU’VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING The Righteous Brothers 67 ( NEW ) I BELIEVE The Happy Clappers 68 ( NEW ) DIANE Therapy 69 ( 69 ) NO MORE ‘I LOVE YOU’S Annie Lennox 70 ( 70 ) A GIRL LIKE YOU Edwyn Collins 71 ( NEW ) LIE TO ME Bon Jovi 72 ( NEW ) PRETENDERS TO THE THRONE The Beautiful South 73 ( NEW ) FINGERS AND THUMBS (COLD SUMMER’S DAY) Erasure 74 ( 54 ) UNION CITY BLUE (REMIX) Blondie 75 ( NEW ) YOU TO ME ARE EVERYTHING Sean MaGuire playlist 1 GOD ONLY KNOWS The Beach Boys 2 HONEY I’M LOST The Dooleys 3 HOW TO FALL IN LOVE PART 1 The Bee Gees
  15. 12th November 1995 It's a new entry at 1 in an otherwise quite chart week, as Michael Jackson bangs in with the epic Earth Song, spear-headed by the stunning Environmental promo video, underlining how humans are decimating the planet. Yes, it's overtly emotional and political - but it's entirely right, and it had my instant approval, and love. I have no time for anyone slagging it off for trying to make a point while they stand by and do nothing. Put up or shut up. By this time I'd already had 25 years of politicians ignoring environmentalists, and now there's another 30 years more on top and things get worse by the year. It seems at least a million UK people agreed with me by the new year, as sales of the single went through the roof, where the over-priced new album/hits album combo didn't. Michael Jackson's instant 12th solo number one, plus another 3 with the Jacksons. This all bad news for Oasis who are denied getting a second number one with Wonderwall up to 2, future anthem of many a karaoke bar. Whatever was the first, but Saint Etienne grab another top 10, and UB40 an unexpected 15th year of top 10's with Until My Dying Day. Back in at 14 15 years later, Hungry Heart out-peaks its original run for Bruce Springsteen, but not by much, and Definition Of Sound had a good new entry with Pass The Vibes at 47, one ahead a Sentimental Deborah Cox, smooth r'n'b, but behind a New Age song at 26 from Sacred Spirit, Wishes Of Happiness And Prosperity, devoted to getting legal rights redress to Native Americans, and using traditional music sounds. I liked it. That just leaves The Original having a follow-up dance banger at 65. 1 ( NEW ) EARTH SONG Michael Jackson 2 ( 15 ) WONDERWALL Oasis 3 ( 7 ) MISSING (TODD TERRY REMIX) Everything But The Girl 4 ( 8 ) THEME FROM “PEOPLE’S CENTURY” Zbignieuw Preisner 5 ( 3 ) YOU’LL SEE Madonna 6 ( 1 ) GANGSTA’S PARADISE Coolio featuring LV 7 ( 4 ) EVERYBODY SAY EVERYBODY DO Let Loose 8 ( 11 ) HE’S ON THE PHONE Saint Etienne 9 ( 18 ) UNTIL MY DYING DAY UB40 10 ( 2 ) WHEN LOVE AND HATE COLLIDE Def Leppard 11 ( 9 ) I’D LIE FOR YOU (AND THAT’S THE TRUTH) Meat Loaf 12 ( 5 ) HAND IN MY POCKET Alanis Morissette 13 ( 14 ) LUCKY LOVE Ace Of Base 14 ( NEW ) HUNGRY HEART Bruce Springsteen 15 ( 16 ) DIGGIN’ ON YOU TLC 16 ( 12 ) FANTASY Mariah Carey 17 ( 17 ) GOLDENEYE Tina Turner 18 ( 10 ) FAIRGROUND Simply Red 19 ( 32 ) THE POWER (OF ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD) D:Ream 20 ( 30 ) HEAVEN FOR EVERYONE Queen 21 ( 6 ) A CHANGE IS GONNA COME/A KIND OF CHRISTMAS CARD Morten Harket 22 ( 53 ) THE UNIVERSAL Blur 23 ( 43 ) UP ON THE ROOF Robson Jerome 24 ( 36 ) DISCO 2000 Pulp 25 ( 13 ) SORTED FOR E’S AND WHIZZ/MISSHAPES Pulp 26 ( NEW ) WISHES OF HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY Sacred Spirit 27 ( 19 ) WALKING IN MEMPHIS Cher 28 ( 21 ) STAYIN’ ALIVE N’Trance 29 ( 45 ) IT’S OH SO QUIET Bjork 30 ( 34 ) LIKE A ROLLING STONE The Rolling Stones 31 ( 20 ) KID (ACOUSTIC) The Pretenders 32 ( 28 ) ALRIGHT Cast 33 ( 37 ) ANYWHERE IS Enya 34 ( 33 ) RUNAWAY/WHEN I THINK OF YOU (REMIX) Janet Jackson 35 ( 35 ) ITCHYCOO PARK M People 36 ( 22 ) LUCKY YOU The Lightning Seeds 37 ( 24 ) WHERE THE WILD ROSES GROW Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue 38 ( 29 ) WATERFALLS TLC 39 ( 26 ) BLESSED Elton John 40 ( 55 ) EXHALE (SHOOP SHOOP) Whitney Houston 41 ( 23 ) LIGHT OF MY LIFE Louise 42 ( 39 ) CAN I TOUCH YOU...THERE Michael Bolton 43 ( 42 ) 74 - ’75 The Connells 44 ( 38 ) U KRAZY KATS PJ & Duncan 45 ( 27 ) WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL Alison Krauss 46 ( 25 ) MISUNDERSTOOD MAN Cliff Richard 47 ( NEW ) PASS THE VIBES Definition Of Sound 48 ( NEW ) SENTIMENTAL Deborah Cox 49 ( 41 ) CAMDEN TOWN Suggs 50 ( 71 ) THE TWELFTH OF NEVER Elvis Presley 51 ( 31 ) WHEN YOU WALK IN THE ROOM Status Quo 52 ( 51 ) I FEEL LOVE ’95 Donna Summer 53 ( 73 ) MISS SARAJEVO The Passengers 54 ( 47 ) UNION CITY BLUE (REMIX) Blondie 55 ( 48 ) DON’T YOU WANT ME (REMIX) Human League 56 ( 66 ) KING OF THE KERB Echobelly 57 ( 52 ) FIND ME Jam & Spoon featuring Plavka 58 ( 58 ) ROCK STEADY Bonnie Raitt & Bryan Adams 59 ( 59 ) THUNDER East 17 60 ( 56 ) HAPPY JUST TO BE WITH YOU Michelle Gayle 61 ( 63 ) DANCING QUEEN/EAGLE Abba 62 ( 62 ) BACK FOR GOOD Take That 63 ( 46 ) SAME THING IN REVERSE Boy George 64 ( 54 ) SUGAR FREE Pauline Henry 65 ( NEW ) B 2 GETHER The Original 66 ( 68 ) YOU’VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING The Righteous Brothers 67 ( 74 ) ELECTRIC TRAIN Squeeze 68 ( 61 ) BABY NOW THAT I’VE FOUND YOU Alison Krauss 69 ( 72 ) NO MORE ‘I LOVE YOU’S Annie Lennox 70 ( 70 ) A GIRL LIKE YOU Edwyn Collins 71 ( RE ) BOOMBASTIC Shaggy 72 ( 57 ) HIDEAWAY De’Lacy 73 ( 40 ) AIN’T NOBODY Diana King 74 ( 64 ) POWER OF A WOMAN Eternal 75 ( 75 ) ON THE BIBLE Deuce playlist of the week 1 PANINARO ’95/ INTO THE NIGHT Pet Shop Boys 2 CHIQUITITA ABBA 3 THEME FROM “THE MUNSTERS” Original Soundtrack
