Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

Pretty sure that covers all the information I was given. Enjoy!

The Hot and Free Me era singles deserved so much better

Thanks for all the work you've put in Jay! You're probably like me where collecting all the data is rewarding in itself, but I know how much time and patience it takes!

Just to add, 'Proper Crimbo' was on 210k (pure sales) as of November 2016 according to MTV/OCC (source). Not a big trickle seller whatsoever for a Christmas song, as it was on 202k as of December 2011 (according to a countdown on Five).

Is there any way we can get LASOM over 10k sob. It looks so bad even compared to the modest sales of later solo releases.

I'd assume 'Proper Crimbo' probably gets better sales over xmas now with streaming than when it was a mainly downloads that contributed sales to songs.

I guess at some point as well the Greatest Hits will over take Northern Star in sales.

Might be quite a few years till then though, unless the girls continue to tour...

Well the annimated movie is still going ahead from what I can tell so there will be another boost to it at the very least.

I remember when we had those 2009 figures to go on and the GH was behind Schizophonic 😫

Less than 300 sales between Hot, VB and Mono is funny to see given the peaks of each album. Shame VB and Mono are so close to silver but so far away in terms of what they sell yearly now.
I thought that Life in Mono was certified based on shippings?!

 Thank you! And thanks to all of you who've helped me gather lots of information together. It was time consuming but I do find it enjoyable.

Lift me up first week sales 139,500

What I am first week sales 106,300

Thanks for these! I'll edit them in.

No I think Hot is, VB and LIM aren't.

That's right! It's a pity VB and LIM didn't get Silver for shipping like Hot did. Given that Hot was certified 11 days after release date, Virgin must have wildly overestimated the demand for it! Perhaps they were more cautious with the VB album.

I do wonder if it's the case that VB and LIM both shipped over 60,000 but the labels weren't motivated to apply for the certification, which is a shame if so!

I am quite fascinated by the physical era and how labels tried to determine how many physicals they should print, in terms of the first week and also in the long run.

For some reason EMI overestimated Look at Me... it's Gold (400k+ shipped), but ended up being 70,000 off target in terms of actual sales. The strangest one is Schizophonic going 2xPlatinum (600k+ shipped) in June 2000, 3 months after Bag It Up's release. At the end of 2000 the album had apparently sold 461,000. It makes me wonder things like... did the label anticipate a greater boost in album sales following the Brits performance? Were they considering a 5th single? It's such a significant number of overprinted copies. Northern Star is over-certified in terms of sales as well, but at least that one is reasonably close to 900,000.

The main thing I'm glad about is Forever getting itself a Platinum certification. :kink: It seems that the Spice album actually warranted its 10xPlatinum at the time, before OCC decided to retroactively downgrade their sales to below 3m <_< At least it's well on course to finally getting 3m again, this time for real.

I’m surprised VOM is lower than Stages #whatashocker

I was pretty surprised by Stages' total too! It was on a total of 7,179 directly after she did promo on QVC to flog some copies, which helped the album re-enter at #151 on 2nd Dec 2012. It seemed dead in the water after that, so to do another 4,752 since then is more than I would have imagined. I suppose its sales may have remained steady for the rest of December, even though it wasn't in the Top 200.

Version of Me - I suppose that wasn't helped by the album market being worse in 2016 compared to 2012. All things considered, it did pretty well to reach 11,000 with just 1 CD (and download/streaming). I think whenever she releases her next album, the only way she'll be able to pull off another 10k+ selling album is if she does a CD, Signed CD, Deluxe CD, Cassettes and Vinyl.

Didn't we also have video club here in the late 90s very early 2000s. My parents were signed up for it I'm sure where you paid a subscription and were sent so many VHS videos and or cds (you could pick extra ones too or pay for extra ones). These were obviously sales as you paid the subscription cost but were never counted by the OCC as they came directly from labels. That is how we ended up with Britney's oops album as it was one sent out.

It was very big in the US it boosted 1 or 2 million extra copies to an albums certification for big 90s albums.

I seem to remember it was only certain labels though.

Yep, it is why when you see big numbers for albums sales in the late 90s that look a bit odd now you have to remember things like video and music club was 'selling' vast amounts of copies that never registered with the OCC or Billboard etc.

The labels didn't care, the albums were still sold and they were still getting money. The OCC probably would have took issue with the whole thing any way because like the article states if you forget to tick which ones you wanted each month they sent you video or cd of their choice. So you can imagine how much labels would have been pushing to send certain titles if you hadn't picked a cd.
