January 8, 20215 yr Aracade being there has GOT to be a mistake surely? It's number 375 on Apple Music today, which is higher than you would expect, but nowhere anywhere else? There was a remix of the song featuring FLETCHER that was released in late November, it's possible that might mean it's somehow racking up decent numbers on Spotify when combined without either version actually being in the top 200? The mass of songs on ACR can really distort the chart more than you'd think as well. Just speculating, no idea really. The Popp Hunna song is even lower on Apple so that does seem to track at least. (could also maybe be an Amazon thing?)
January 8, 20215 yr Asked James Masterton "Can't say where its streams are originating, but it resurfaced about three months ago and has been posting around 2.5K sales each week since late September. Over Christmas it has been growing and break 4K this week, hence the chart appearance." So I guess TikTok + Remix + not on ACR = sounds legit?
January 8, 20215 yr Last Christmas is the first song to go 1- out on the singles chart. Christmas by Michael Buble is the second album to go 1 - out on the album chart. Edited January 8, 20215 yr by mrpopquiz
January 9, 20215 yr I have actually seen Arcade being used a fair bit on TikTok, but hadn't seen it anywhere on streaming, so surprised it's come back! I've given it a few spins myself in the past few weeks because of TikTok reminding me of it though, so maybe as Bra said, it's just bubbling under with various versions on different platforms.
January 10, 20215 yr Last Christmas is the first song to go 1- out on the singles chart. Christmas by Michael Buble is the second album to go 1 - out on the album chart. What was the first album?
January 10, 20215 yr I think there have technically been 2 previous albums (definitely at least 1) that were #1 in the albums chart and off the chart entirely the following week but they were both because of being disqualified, not falling off sales-wise - one was Now That's What I Call Music! 13 which was #1 the week before Various Artists compilations were banned from the main album chart, and I can't remember what the other one was but I'm pretty sure it was something that was meant to be ineligible to chart but was accidentally allowed in for one week so had a run of 1-x - although maybe I am imagining that one entirely lol, I am sure I remember it being mentioned on BuzzJack somewhere before though.
January 10, 20215 yr The first album to go 1- out of the album chart was That'll Be The Day which was released to tie in with the release of the film. It spent 7 weeks at number 1 then went 1 - out in August 1973.
January 10, 20215 yr Ah, that's one I don't think I have heard of... I'd have to guess that's surely also a case of it just being suddenly disqualified as well though? Seems very strange if not!
January 10, 20215 yr that looks weird, why it disappeared from the charts? I guess a rule change not allowing albums credited to various artists? Edited January 10, 20215 yr by Bjork
January 11, 20215 yr I've found out the answer why That'll Be The Day went 1- out back in 1973. According to wiki, the album was removed from the chart as TV advertised compilations were banned from the chart. I guess that Ronco records would have known this but would rather have the extra sales that the advertising generated than an extended chart run. Not sure when that ban was lifted - it must have been before 1983 because I remember seeing ads for the first Now album on the TV.
January 11, 20215 yr Here is the list of the biggest drops from Number 1 on the album chart: 1-out That'll Be The Day - Various Soundtrack (1973) 1-out Christmas - Michael Buble (2021) 1-72 Cherry Blossom - Vamps (2020) 1-35 Night And Day - Vamps (2017) 1-33 A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships - The 1975 (2018) 1-33 Weird - Yungblud (2020) 1-29 Bionic - Christina Aguilera (2010) 1-28 Ultra Mono - Idles (2020) 1-25 The Universal Want - Doves (2020) 1-24 No Tourists - Prodigy (2018) 1-24 Women In Music Part 3 - Haim (2020) 1-23 The Hope Six Demolition Project - PJ Harvey (2016) 1-23 Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 2 - Foals (2019) 1-21 Simulation Theory - Muse (2018) 1-19 Brightest Blue - Ellie Goulding (2020) 1-19 McCartney III - Paul McCartney (2021) 1-18 All Things Must Pass - George Harrison (1971) 1-18 Future Hearts - All Time Low (2015) 1-17 Sounds Good Feels Good - 5 Seconds Of Summer (2015) 1-17 Father Of All...... - Green Day (2020) 1-17 Calm - 5 Seconds Of Summer (2020) 1-16 Lights - Ellis Goulding (2010) 1-15 Christmas - Michael Buble (2012) !!! In total, the number 1 album has dropped to outside the top 10 on 45 occasions with 34 of them being within the past 10 years.
January 11, 20215 yr That George Harrison fall in 1971 is an odd one. It came at the end of an 8-week run at #1, so I wonder what the story behind that is. Anyway here are the singles for good measure, with 10 of the 14 falls from #1 to outside the Top 10 happening since 2015: 1-x Wham! - Last Christmas (2021) 1-97 Baddiel & Skinner / Lightning Seeds - 3 Lions (2018) 1-78 LadBaby - Don't Stop Me Eatin' (2021) 1-57 LadBaby - I Love Sausage Rolls (2019) 1-29 Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir - A Bridge Over You (2016) 1-28 Ellie Goulding - River (2020) 1-21 LadBaby - We Built This City (2018) 1-21 Michael Ball, Captain Tom Moore and The NHS Voices of Care Choir - You'll Never Walk Alone (2020) 1-20 Elvis Presley - One Night / I Got Stung (2005) 1-20 McFly - Baby's Coming Back / Transylvania (2007) 1-14 Elvis Presley - It's Now or Never (2005) 1-13 Ed Sheeran feat. Stormzy - Take Me Back To London (2019) 1-12 Harry Belafonte - Mary's Boy Child (1958) 1-11 Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello - Senorita (2019)
January 11, 20215 yr I’d argue that take me back to London and senorita don’t count due to being ACR induced falls
January 11, 20215 yr Sure, but the record books and websites won't show that. You could also argue that 3 Lions and Last Christmas were ACR induced - if they'd been on SCR for both weeks they wouldn't have fallen quite so far (although Wham! may still have gone 1-out).
January 11, 20215 yr Granted but ACR was applied on both weeks so the sales ratio was constant and thus the only changing factor affecting its chart run were the actual sales it received. Where’s for Senorita and TMBTL there were two factors changing, both the actual sales of the song and the sales ratio recorded on the chart
January 11, 20215 yr In the 'Missing Charts' of 1940-1952, 'White Christmas' was usually missing from the first chart of a new year, having been No. 1 on the last chart of the previous year. However, I think this may have been a deliberate exclusion. Wiki is correct about 'That'll Be The Day'. Two other Various Artists compilations were kicked off the chart the same week (18.8.73). However, soundtracks survived (Cabaret, Clockwork Orange). The ban seems to have been lifted in the last quarter of 1975, with several entering between 27.9.75 and 13.12.75 (source OCC archive search; 'Various Artists') Edited January 11, 20215 yr by Satchmo Distel
