Or it is just boring and goes nowhere. Save for Mel C's middle 8 it is pretty much a snooze. It kills the vibe on tour and they know it which is why they tried to jazz it up in 2007.

But it worked so beautifully in slow and soft mode again in 2019 :P It doesnt kill the vibe at all. Sure, they have yet to really do it justice live, but I think the track works really well. It's a gorgeous track, beautifully written and magically produced, just stunning all around

Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

I think it’s such a stunning song, so atmospheric with the build up to Mel B’s verse and then the highs of Melanie C to a sultry chorus. I didn’t appreciate it as much as a child but as an adult I’d say it’s my second favourite ballad after Viva Forever. It has such a hint of a jazz and bluesy feel to it while still being a polished pop song.

Their live performance of it at the AMA’s is just gorgeous too.

This

I'd say their ballads go like:

1. Viva Forever

2. Goodbye

3. Too Much

4. 2 Become 1

5. Let Love Lead The Way

6. Headlines

7. Mama

7. Mama

8. Headlines

If Mama wasn't quite as cheesy lyrics wise it would actually be higher. The music to it is divine its just a bit cringey  I genuinely think all their ballad are beautiful though

I agree on Mama. And just like Headlines, which is also a victim of the cringe, it comes out really nicelly live, although I would be happy to never see it performed again to give space to other lesser heard tracks.

It's a hit though, no denying that. If I had to do a full ballad breakdown though, it would go:

1. Viva Forever

2. Goodbye

3. Naked

4. Too Much

5. 2 Become 1

6. Oxygen

7. Denying

8. Let Love Lead The Way

9. Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)

10. Mama

11. Time Goes By

They really did ballads well to be honest!

Sorry sammy but if you think Naked and Too Much arent top songs, then Im afraid you need to get a new taste. Try the post-Christmas sales period, you might find some taste on sale :P
Do we consider denying a ballad? I guess it could be thinking about it I’ve never really classed it as one. Or naked tbh but again thinking about it definitely more ballad than upbeat.

Definitely ballads, just that both are more r'n'b ballads than the standard pop ones like the rest on the list.

Ooh thank you for sharing this Liam!

With Goodbye on 973k in that list, but revealed as 977k by OCC recently, it makes me wonder what the cut off date is for the above list  I’ll do some maths when I’m next on the computer. :kink:

Nice to have confirmation that Spice Up Your Life has overtaken Say You’ll Be There as it seemed from previous updates that it was destined to do this. Looking forward to both of them going double platinum!

Oh if that is a few weeks out of date then with Goodbye actually 4k higher then SUYL must be less than 15k off double plat.

Holler inching towards gold, we love to see it.

I attempted to work out the date that the above sales come from. I did this by looking at Stop's totals from 18th March 2021 [638,000] and 9th March 2022 [over 704,000]. Both of those are rounded figures. It works out as 66,000 sales in 51 weeks = 1,294.1176 sales per week on average. I also worked out other "sales per week on average" figures by changing the above total sales to consider them having been rounded up or down. For instance I did some workings with 637,500, 638,499 and 704,499.

Going through a few different calculations, in almost every scenario, Stop reached either a bit below or a bit over 737,000 on 26th August 2022. In the absence of more concrete information, I'm going to just accept this as an estimated date for those MTV sales.

OCC revealed Goodbye's sales to be 977,000 in an article published on Thursday 8th December (and I assume that total is as of Friday 2nd December). 26th August is 14 weeks earlier than 2nd Dec. Being on 973,000 on 26th August would result in its average weekly sales being 285 units since then. That's pretty close to its average from 11th Dec 2020 [949,000 total] to 2nd Dec 2022 [977,000 total]: 28,000 sales in 103 weeks = 272 sales per week on average. So I think this further supports 26th August being a strong possibility.

Here are my estimated sales as of 16th December 2022. The figures look very precise but they really are just estimates. I have shared all my workings at the bottom of this post!

Estimations: 16th December 2022

2,295,424 - Wannabe

1,409,298 - 2 Become 1

1,196,098 - Spice Up Your Life (So it seems that this is on the cusp of 2xPlat - maybe in January 2023? We'll see!)

977,000 - Goodbye (2nd December 2022 / Source: OCC, article published 8th Dec '22)

926,313 - Mama/Who Do You Think You Are
