Cardle set for Xmas number one

Matt Cardle’s victory in the X Factor at the weekend looks set to land the former Essex painter and decorator with the Christmas number one as it takes a strong lead in early midweek sales flashes.

The 27 year-olds’ cover of Biffy Clyro’s Many Of Horror’s is currently more than 70,000 units ahead of its closest competitor, Rihanna Feat. Drake’s What’s My Name. If this state of play holds it might show that 2009’s battle between last year’s X Factor winner and Rage Against The Machine - backed by the show's protesters - was little more than an anomaly in the annual fight for the festive top slot.

The original version of Cardle's song, by the Scottish rockers, also finds itself in the top ten in early sales - the only other new entry in the top 10 apart from Trashmen’s Surfin’ Bird at number three. Willow’s Whip My Hair, which last week look set to take the 10 year old to the top of the charts and Black Eyed Peas’ The Time both slip in the top ten.

Meanwhile, Cage Against The Machine’s 4’33 track of silence, which was being mobilised as this year's X Factor protest song, just about scrapes into the top 20 – with the rest of the top 20 appearing almost static.

Albums

On the albums front, it seems that nothing can knock Take That’s Progress from its reign at the top of the charts for the fourth week running, confirming what many already suspected - that the record will deliver the band their first Christmas number one since reforming earlier this year.

Michael Jackson’s posthumous Michael lands itself in the top five in the midweeks – with only 10,000 sales keeping it from Rihanna’s Loud at number two. For the former king of pop to compete head to head with Take That, he will have to more than double his album sales before Sunday. However he looks unlikely to slip out of the top five, which also features Michael Buble’s Crazy Love and Olly Murs’ self titled debut.

Robbie Williams’ In And Out Of Consciousness was the only big gain in the top 30, entering the top 10 undoubtedly helped by gifting over the festive period.

PLEASE READ THESE RULES BEFORE POSTING

[01] Any member that is caught spamming, or trying to cause an argument to get a reaction will be severely warned with a ban for 7 days from posting on the forum.

[02] This is a mid thread for every artist do not go on and on and on about a certain artist to bring the board into disrepute.

[03] Please be patient when you are asking for a request, as you might not get an answer straight away.

[04] Any member asking for information that isn't in the updates we don't have, always read the topic before you post, I do not want to see questions like Where is Britney? repeated several times on every page of the thread, once is enough, bookmark the page if you don't have time to read all of the topic. Its not that hard.

[05] Do not use BLOCK CAPITALS when posting a sentence its considered as shouting and rude.

[06] Do not use Text Talk.

[07] Do not use a light colour font when posting please its hard to read the topic, not everyone has 100% vision.

[08] Please give a mention to who posted the chart info or the site name where you seen the mid info if you are copying and posting the chart info elsewhere, it takes forever trying to re-edit all the information up for you to see.

[09] Please do not post lists, or sales info unless you are told to by myself or a chart mod, if you do have sales info that you wish to share round them off to the nearest thousand and name your source, do not post precise sales figures.

[10] Regarding chart postions when posted when you see a sum/substraction for example 22+4, 40-7, if you add/subtract both figures together it gives you the actual position for the track. Its just simple addition or substraction. Go Figure.

[11] Any stupid posts will be removed and deleted with no reason given by management or the Chart Mod team

[12] Please stay on topic at all times, off tangent posts will be removed, with no reason given.

Remember this time last year when Rage Against The Machine were #1  And Bertie threatened to stab Chris with a big knife  Xmas 2009
I expect the best from Matt Cardle, my prediction is 175k - 200k for first day. I'd like to see the original Many Of Horror do well too, both versions are amazing! And Unfaithful should go back to the top 20, am loving that song right now!

I never thought I'd be defending Biffy Clyro in their sellout days, but Matt's version of the track is a travesty.

Can't see Matt doing 175k first day - more like 100-125k

Matt Cardle on sales of 70k

Really? Seems ridiculously low :o If he ends up selling say 400k for the week, the campaigners will be gutted that they didn't get out in force again this year!!

112k for Matt Cardle, those are good sales hopefully he can sell 300 - 400k by the end of the week. Does anyone have Joe's opening sales last year to compare?
