So, the rumour mill has started for who will represent the UK in Baku next year - and it does look like it will be another internal selection in Blue style :)

A couple of week ago, the Daily Mail says the BBC approached Charlotte Church, JLS, The Saturdays, Pixie Lott and Katherine Jenkins. Immediately, I would rule out JLS, the Sats and Pixie. Also, in an interview with Chart Show TV, Jade said that she wouldn't want to put herself and the other Sugababes through the process, despite saying she loved the experience - ruling them out.

Also on ESC Today on one of the comments boards, someone said that the BBC have also approached Diana Vickers, but I have no idea whether that is a reliable comment or not. Also eurovision.tv talked of the possibility of the Spice Girls representing the UK.

Starting to look forward to it already :D

Charlotte seems the most likely of those, recently washed up. She is so underrated as a pop singer though, I'd love to see her do it  JLS, The Saturdays and Pixie all have current careers that are working out for them, so I agree on ruling them out. Diana would be brilliant too, and not too far from plausible tbh...

Another Internal Selection? URGH.

I don't know who is worse at picking acts, the BBC or the UK Public.

I think an internal selection could be the best option, it worked fine this year. If there is a national selection then the BBC needs to make sure all the acts/songs are serious so the novelty can't be selected a la Scooch.

BBC need to choose Hurts. They've even said they'd be more than happy to represent the UK at Eurovision. That combined with the fact they're already popular across Europe is a big advantage.

So all they need to do is write/record an Eurotastic 3 minute pop song. They could potentially provide the UK with another win some 15 years after their last triumph. It'd also boost Hurt's profile in the UK as well.

Of course as it's the UK (or BBC) we'll be reduced to somebody like Dane Bowers instead. FLOP!!! :)

I'd rather have Pete Waterman back than Hurts. Vile vile vile band.

This. Well, I like 'Stay' - but they're mainly SOOO dull.

Really? Pete gave us one of our worst entries EVER and Hurts are big in Europe, far bigger than they are here. It would be potentially brilliant, not that they would do it of course.

This is pretty much the only thing I disagree with Phil on - Hurts are a BAND OF LIFE  They could easily come up with a song that could get us back into the top 5 at the VERY LEAST.
I'd back Hurts as well, I really think that they could write a great Eurovision song, Stay would have been perfect for it for a start...

Of course not! Pete Waterman should be executed immediately. I was just expressing how much I hate Hurts.

I think the correct term for Pete is euthanised. He made some AMAZING records 20-25 years ago, but he's stuck in the 80s :(
I think the most offensive thing about Pete is how on any show with anything to do with ABBA he is on there and always calls 'Chiquitita' Chicken Tikka, it's just so irritating that he CANNOT get it right.
That is very annoying. Then again my BF was convinced until worryingly recently that the third line of the chorus was "you'll be dancing once again like an angry hen".

I don't even know why they bother with him. He hasn't been relevant for over 2 decades.

REALLY hoping for Hurts, they could do big things for us tbh. Unless it goes to pot when they involve Pete Waterman who creates them a tribute to an Abba triubute band, which I pray to god doesn't happen. I totally agree on Stay being perfect though, I actually thought it yesterday when Hurts were mentioned. So something like that would be good, if not then just something that's distinctly Hurts like Wonderful Life or Illuminated. I just don't want anything else created by bloody Pete Waterman. Of course, Hurts will barely get a look-in though :(

I think if Diana does this, it won't go down too well as she's just very marmite and I can't see her being widely appealing in Europe, as much as I like her

Hurts could be a good choice as they are very popular (and current) across Europe, just as long as (as others have said) Pete Waterman stays away! he did say he wouldn't do it again after his year so it looks unlikely

...and for that we should be thankful. He proved how diluded he was when he boasted that his entry was excellent (before everyone heard the song) when they were still searching for a singer. He criticised 'Drip Drop' by Safura saying it was a very poor pop song.

Then he unleased his "excellent" song 'That Sounds Good To Me' and well...the UK should've just said "forget it". I know I made a comment about this last year but I honestly think the BBC just don't want to burden of having to host the contest which is why I suspect they want to send crap most of the time. They made an effort for 2011 yet Blue ended up lower than Jedward on the scoreboard so you just know 2012 will be another joke entry sadly.
