Posted January 26, 20169 yr 15kWlTrpt5k Continuing on from out theme last week, this time Madonna uses water and rain to symbolise the washing away of her problems. 'Rain' is much-loved and is accompanied by what could be one of my all-time favourite Madonna videos - the visuals perfectly compliment the glorious song; her blacked out, shortened hair symbolises a loss of identity that she desperately searches for in the song and the colour palette is beautiful as the intense blue is unnerving and again matches the intensity of the song. 'Wash All Over Me' from Madonna's latest album brings out this theme once more with a more spiritual tinge, as she wishes the water can wash over her and rid of her of her ills. It's a brilliant song, both in demo and album form and delivers the powerful message of renewal, retribution and cleansing in spectacular fashion. Both songs are dark, sombre and incredibly powerful but they offer hope in the darkness and the madness and become quite empowering anthems in distinct ways. Which do you go to to wash away your own problems? http://www.skype-emoticons.com/images/emoticon-00156-rain.gif rTyRntZCl-s Vote for your favourite one in the poll and comment in the thread below! January 26, 20169 yr Wash All Over Me easily. Rain is one of my least fave songs by Madge, such a bore.
January 26, 20169 yr Obviously Rain !!! What an amazing video and quite a big hit for a 5th single from an album. I won a poem at school for copying some of the lyrics :)
January 26, 20169 yr Liam kindly f*** off please x. What kind of one sided landslide win? Rain is one of her very best.

January 26, 20169 yr Rain>>>>most things. How good is Madonna at ballads tho? I could happily listen to Balladonna and nothing but for the rest of my life. (except Masterpiece. That shit needs to burn)

January 26, 20169 yr Author I voted 'Rain' even though the other one has really grown on me over the past year. 'Rain' is just sublime, one of her very best ballads for me <3
January 26, 20169 yr The fact it could be about facials makes it even more amazing. Lewd ;o I also voted for Rain btw, obviously.
January 26, 20169 yr Author The fact it could be about facials makes it even more amazing. If ever a single comment almost RUINED an entire song for me this'd be it. feel it on my finger tips..
January 26, 20169 yr Author Omg that made me think - can I edit 'Holy Water' into this too :') (obviously not the same type of water/rain~ but STILL fitting a nautical theme of some sorts) :heehee:
January 28, 20169 yr Haha, 'Rain' is on the Erotica album for a reason Haus! :heehee: Moving away from the ew sexual connotations, this is one Madonna's most beautiful vocal displays. Just proves you don't need a load of fancy, vocal acrobatics for a voice to captivate you; there's just something so warm and sensual about her delivery. 'Wash All Over Me' is a highlight of many on the Rebel Heart album. Love the marching band-esque beat and again Madonna's delivery is one of the best in years; everything about it just encourages you to sing along. The Avicii demo mix is sublime too - that is how the MDNA album should have sounded more like! I think 'Rain' just edges this but I reckon at some point down the line I could prefer this.
January 28, 20169 yr Wash All Over Me, just. Both are 10/10 brilliant and showcase great vocals from her. WAOM wins out perhaps a little due to recency, but also because I think it's one of her best songs in years and Rain came out at a period when she was still churning out amazing songs all over the shop. I've always rather enjoyed the sexual connotations of Rain, it's just a shame she forgot that that is how you incorporate sex into a song, not the seedy shit she's obsessed with recently.
January 28, 20169 yr Wash All Over Me is definitely overrated imo, Rain is just really beautiful and ranks way higher for me.
