Posted August 23, 20205 yr This choice of song is one that I discovered again recently. Lyrics: [Verse 1] Elevator buttons and morning air Strangers' silence makes me want to take the stairs If you were here, we'd laugh about their vacant stares But right now, my time is theirs Seems like there's always someone who disapproves They'll judge it like they know about me and you And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do The jury's out, but my choice is you [Chorus] So don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine And life makes love look hard The stakes are high, the water's rough But this love is ours [Verse 2] You never know what people have up their sleeves Ghosts from your past gonna jump out at me Lurking in the shadows with their lip gloss smiles But I don't care, 'cause right now, you're mine [Chorus] And you'll say Don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine And life makes love look hard The stakes are high, the water's rough But this love is ours [bridge] And it's not theirs to speculate if it's wrong And your hands are tough, but they are where mine belong And I'll fight their doubt and give you faith With this song for you [breakdown] 'Cause I love the gap between your teeth And I love the riddles that you speak And any snide remarks from my father about your tattoos Will be ignored 'Cause my heart is yours [Chorus] So don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine And life makes love look hard Don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine But they can't take what's ours They can't take what's ours [Outro] The stakes are high, the water's rough But this love is ours LZ34LlaIk88 Is this a song that you enjoy? Has it been a while since you have heard it?
August 23, 20205 yr Author I like the line, "People throw rocks at things that shine." I forget about this song, but I enjoy it.
August 24, 20205 yr A really nice track that has a certain low-key charm to it with an understated beautiful melody. But wouldn't rank this as one of Taylor's best or strongest tracks from her Country output, or even overall. This did get kinda overshadowed by her more glossier numbers & do feel there were better tracks on 'Speak Now' that could have been singles, namely 'Enchanted' or if it had to be one of the deluxe tracks, then 'If This Was A Movie' (which did out-peak 'Ours' in the USA with a #10 peak). Also it was obvious this was only released in order to commercially rinse the 'Speak Now' for all its worth.
August 24, 20205 yr Ours is super cute, not the biggest highlight of Speak Now but I thought it was perfect for the last single of the era. Her last country airplay #1 if I remember right (not counting Highway Don't Care)!
August 26, 20205 yr I adore Ours so much  It was always a track I could give and take for a while but it really hit me hard about 2-3 years ago <3 The first verse and the bridge are the highlights for me, the lyrics in both are so good <3 It's such a beautiful song and has really cemented itself as an underrated favourite of mine recently  Lemme give it a listen now! (</3 at it being the only SN deluxe track available on spotify)
