This would have started 2 weeks earlier, but the first 2 editions had to be scrapped because Jim`s hosting was so bad! This was a bit of a let down and cost waste, because in the 2nd show...the star prize was car! The poor contestants never even saw their glory on tv. Jim was the 5th host chosen for the show, and in these early shows would say things like "You`ve won an empty packet of crisps", when the dart player hit the black on the prize board! The familiar catchphrases appeared via Jim, as he utttered those words "Great, Smashing, Super", to a man who said he was unemployed! When ATV, lost their franchise for the Midlands at the end of 1981, we might have been thankful. Though in 1982, Central TV brought Bullseye back at 2.30pm on Sundays. In 1983, it was still an unnetworked showing around the 5/6pm depending where you lived. All areas were out of sync, and showed different editions! This continued until 1994, then the show moved to a networked showing around 5.15pm on Saturdays. A couple of the final shows, could not be shown because of bad sound sync...but these were shown in 2004 on Challenge TV. When in 2006, Northern comedian Dave Spikey hosted a new series around 10.30pm, week days. Granada produced the show, for Challenge after Ant & Dec did a Celebrity version in 2005. It was said that the new series had been made with Peter Kay in mind, to host it...although he didn`t! It kept the Rolling Stones at #2 in the albums. Cliff was having better days...no age stopping gaps then! He had 2 simultaneous top 10 albums...the first time since 1963. Johnny Mathis seemed to be looking into the future with a Madonna album title! Ronco and K-Tel battled it out with the comps, as the Shadows lined up the bottom of the top 20. Outside the 20, we found Heaven 17...their first single "Play To Win" just missed the top 40, despite being on Top Of The Pops with Simon Bates in Sept 1981. The album "Penthouse And Pavement" peaked at #11. Including those Tweets (or was it twits?). The Birdie Song was originally called "Bird Dance", and was recorded by a Belgian act called Cash And Carry in 1974. To add insult to injury, the Electronicas were also in the charts with a more electronic version! The medley was still in, with Starsound giving us "Stars On 45 Vol. 3". This one was mainly instrumental, and featured mainly intros to the likes of songs by the Stylistics etc. Other medleys came via Adrian Baker doing yet another Four Seasons tribute. Even the Hollies did a medley of their hits. Quite eventful by calling it "Holliedaze". Well it was late Summer! Lobo (not the 70s outfit) gave us a Caribbean medley, by way of songs like Island In The Sun..."Daylight come, and I`ve gotta sign on", as it became in the 80s with so many unemployed! Quite easily the worst medley was the quite ghastly, out of tune medley by Portsmouth Sinfonia called "Classical Muddley". There was some class in the chart though...for me, Godley And Creme (ex-10CC), Hi-Gloss, Linx, Police, Imagination, Bucks Fizz, Dollar, Randy Crawford, Beggar And Co (doing a follow up from a Spandau Ballet hit "Chant No. 1 I Don`t Need This Pressure On" . A dodgy re-make was being pushed by Radio One by Rex Smith & Rachel Sweet. Rachel already having a re-make in 1978 with "B-A-B-Y (Baby)". Back to 2009. The X Factor winner is not allowed as a guess, for obvious reasons. The first correct will win the top 10 singles. Where there are download only versions in the chart, we will throw in a corresponding album, that contains that track. The Competition will close on Friday 11th Dec at midnight. So, get in early! September 25, 200915 yr Big surprise at the new dan brown being number one book lol Absolute yay for saturdays being number one pre-order. So hope that song does well.
September 26, 200915 yr Really? Anyway, thanks Dave :) We have to predict three songs in the Christmas Chart top 10. The deadline for predictions is 8 days before the Christmas Chart is revealed. All it effectively is is name three songs that will be in next weeks top 10. :|
September 26, 200915 yr Oh yeah, but right now it's tough! If someone enters now, and gets it right, then they will beat someone who enters the week before Christmas...
September 26, 200915 yr Author We have to predict three songs in the Christmas Chart top 10. The deadline for predictions is 8 days before the Christmas Chart is revealed. All it effectively is is name three songs that will be in next weeks top 10. :| Yeah, but look at this way...Already 17 people have entered. They may or may not have correct guesses. Of course you are right, as the weeks go by, it just gets easier. Likely as not someone will be correct way before the 11th Dec, but it will increase the amount of guesses/entries. That`s the idea, and it also increases the popularity of our wonderful forum! Plus everyone likes something for nothing, don`t they?!
September 26, 200915 yr It's a good comp... I wish I was one of those 17 people, but I really can't think about Christmas yet
September 26, 200915 yr True, but if there's 17 people entered already there's no point in entering now, loads will be right as it's the easiest chart of the year to predict... It's not a bad competition, but I think it could've been better to give more people a chance and have an air of unpredictability about it.
