October 11, 200915 yr Author Tbh he wasn't very specific, but he said he's had real life issues. I've said if he can get the votes to me by tomorrow morning it's OK. It's not preferencial treatment though, if anyone else had come to me before the deadline I would have done the same.

My $h!te mobile broadband had been playing up all day as per and I watched X Factor and tried a last ditch attempt at voting. Just about managed it though! Can't see Jade setting the scoreboard alight, but I would've probably come last had I not voted.

I don't see what your objection to TBO is? Especially to people like you and Theo. It's a great chance to discover some amazing new music from the contests you weren't in. At the end of the day, this contests end game is the discovery of amazing new music in a fun way.

I think I remember "So What" was deducted points and finished last because Simon didn't want to take part. I think it's a tough one, I don't think songs should be deducted just because the country in charge doesn't want to take part, it is a spin off after all. But at the same time it puts people who do vote at a slight disadvantage.
October 11, 200915 yr The deduction isn't really that large - it's only to the tune of about 15 points or 20%, I forget what we did last year. It's far less punitive as we do appreciate people want to take part, but it is in part because of the fact that if we don't do it it is unfair on the other participants, as it means that the non-voter is at an advantage as they don't have a set of votes (i.e., theirs!) where they're guaranteed not to receive votes...
October 11, 200915 yr I know it's only a small amount deducted, and I totally understand for penalising people who qualify and chose not too take part, but if MKL hasn't been on, how was he supposed to have known to nominate? Sorry bout these questions :lol:
October 11, 200915 yr It isn't a penalty - it's purely a method of equalising the scoreboard for fairness. If they so wish they can compile their votes and remove the deduction if it bothers them that much and then they'll know where they truly finished :P
October 12, 200915 yr I've never understood why it's 15 points and not 12, as the biggest advantage you give to any one country by voting is 12 points, therefore not voting will only put you at an advantage of 12 points over any country. Still 3 points here and there isn't likely to harm anyone. By the way I'm almost done with my votes and will have them sent in under half an hour. It's not university internet that's the problem - I am actually home for a long weekend and had completely forgotten about voting in the midst of catching up with everyone! But thanks to Tom for letting me submit them late. I'm sitting with my beloved other half on the sofa compiling our votes at the mo :wub: :)
