Posted October 9, 200915 yr It has come to our attention that the PM facility on BuzzJack has recently been used by a spammer using an automated script. We endeavour to protect users from spam in the same way as we secure users data when they register on BuzzJack. The automated script mimicked a user so essentially was processing legitimate actions hence why it was able to pass our security system. Actions Taken:Over 1500 PM messages deleted from todays spamA further 750 messages deleted from a similar spam event on the 25th JulyThe 2 accounts used by the user have been deleted.1 Minute PM time added between sending PM'sAgain I apologise for those who received the messages. We have now implemented a system which will not allow a user to send more than 1 PM a minute. This should not restrict PM activity but will restrict spammers ability to mass PM users. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Phil

October 9, 200915 yr Author 1500 Pm's and I didn't get one! I'm feeling left out *hahaha* yes strange how it "picks" who to send the PM to. Most are in chronological order but there are some omissions. For example first 50 where sent to: 5 7 8 10 21 22 23 25 26 28 29 31 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50
October 9, 200915 yr Makes me laugh though 1500 PM's some people clearly need to get out more, and how ironic as I'm typing this there is an ad to eliminate spam
October 9, 200915 yr Thanks Phil We have now implemented a system which will not allow a user to send more than 1 PM a minute That's the system they use over on Devoted.
October 10, 200915 yr I wondered why the PM facility was disabled for a while yesterday. Thanks Phil.

Was it the bot that created that thread in the lounge about a week about? They ah, 'It' got removed, but now it reminds me it would of cracked the captha in order to have created a thread.
October 10, 200915 yr Author Very interesting. I hope it's speculative guessing.. Was it the bot that created that thread in the lounge about a week about? They ah, 'It' got removed, but now it reminds me it would of cracked the captha in order to have created a thread. reading up on this it seems that humans actually sign up and then hand over to the bot. It is still controlled by a human however as they sent ~ 750 PM's in July and stopped and then restarted yesterday.
October 10, 200915 yr I never got one either  And Martin the ads are smart adds whenever you go in a thread it has an add that fits with the page. At least it usually does.
October 10, 200915 yr I've just encountered a spam patrol ad in this page. It's gone now. LOL. Could because of me posting. :heehee: Edited October 10, 200915 yr by FM11
October 12, 200915 yr If you can only send one PM per minute, are we still allowed to send the same PM to multiple recipients, in one 'go'?
January 2, 201015 yr Ugh, this waiting time is so annoying. :( Would it be possible to reduce the waiting time for members with a certain number of posts, say over 1000?
January 2, 201015 yr Author cannot risk someone's account being hijacked and then being used for spam... when I have the reviews system bedded down I will be looking at ways to extend some of the normal member account functionality.
July 15, 201015 yr I do agree the waiting time between sending pms was annoying, but was necessary to prevent spambots. Good work on this Phil :)
