Why poor Alex? :heehee: She has the fastest selling single of the year (so far :P) Also she'll have very strong second week sales too. Probably one of the fastest selling albums of the year too. :lol: :P

And anyway Cheryl is still a long way away from #1. I mean Alex lead was HUGE.

I knew anyone who was claiming Cheryl may not make #1 with this was seriously deluded. Even before release I could tell it's probably the biggest and most hyped song of the year, literally everyone I know has been discussing it...

Also I'm really happy for Christina. 'Hurt' is probably my favourite ballad ever and was criminally robbed of the top 10 three years ago. I really really hope it can get a top 10 place after all these years of being a #11 hit.

Basing it on sales is how the chart should always be. How exactly does it look out of date? Sales will always be counted for a period of a week and if you're suggesting they move the sales deadline closer to the actual chart, don't you think they'd just change the download release dates of songs to whatever the new chart deadline is? o_O

 

As for Cheryl's single, I'm sick of her brigade on here already. :( Personally I think it's average and so over rated. It's only the Girls Aloud factor people are buying into, only a handful of people on here and elsewhere would support it if someone like Ciara was singing it. Shame. But I suppose the charts aren't always about talent.

I completely agree Silver Rocket. Despite Alex's phenomenal sales, the Cheryl track is pretty decent and is hyped to the max. I can't see why anyone would think it wasn't going straight to the top.

People don't buy a song because they just think the artist is talented. They buy a song because they like the song at the end of the day.. So if people like ciara actually started releasing decent songs they might do better in the charts lol

I can understand its late in the night, but geez, when Alex released hers, wasn't it more than half, almost 3 quarters to 1st place?

Alex didn't reach number 1 until about 12pm iirc. I could be wrong though...

 

Also I wonder what would happen to the Big top 40 if say iTunes froze (like it has now) and didn't unfreeze until about 8pm tomorrow. Would they use the Top 10 that iTunes has frozen on? Or do you think they'd get info come through from iTunes etc...?

at my time, in 8 hours she was number 2.

so we'll see where cheryl is... also alex was number 1 before her x factor performance... but good luck to both. very interested to see how it all turns out.

Cheryl hasn't performed yet either ^_^ So it will be very interesting indeed. I'm looking forward to seeing if Cheryl will actually Top Alex's 80k in the first set of mids.
