In all honesty, I don't think the album would've done much better even if Keisha hadn't left. The material from the album just stunk. GetSexy and Wear My Kiss were both really just lowest-common-denominator rubbish. About A Girl was decent, but that too still just sounded like they were chasing the sound of 6 months ago rather than setting the trends themselves like they did in their heyday.

But crucially, if "KeishaGate" hadn't happened, even if this album had flopped, I think they would've had the potential to recover at some point in the future. Not now though. Keisha took the band's credibility with her when she left. I really think this is the end for them tbh. Shame - it's such an undignified end to a band who used to be so commercially successful yet so credible at the same time.

The album would be performing better if it wasnt for Keisahgate. For starters it would have been released in November, in a high sales period, the early leak wouldnt have happened and more importantly the band wouldnt be a laughing stock who get pretty much nothing but bad press.

It wouldnt be an amazingly sucsessful album by any means but it would be selling enough to not be an embarsement.

Wordshaker has done a bit of an about turn since Ego, so we'll just have to wait and see what the next single does for the album before we bring out the doom and gloom they're dropped chat.
I reckon it would of beem massive. I'm certain About A Girl would of been massive with out keishagate(also with 4.0 if the pushed it back to this year). Then they had Thank You, No More You and Miss Everything lined up. I reckon it would of out sold change
Yeah, I think it would've definitely sold more than C+S. I mightn't have chosen the abysmal (kinda overreacting) WMK as a third single either.

It hasn't really, the total is still only about 60k and 'Ego' barely did anything for it. :(

Because Fascination (her label) are very generous I can assume. There's an idea actually, maybe Sugababes can see if Fascination will have them and they'll forever be safe with 30k selling albums.

The best.

I seriously doubt any company wants to jump in to the whole name copyright battle

The era was a disaster the day Keisha got sacked.

Where I think they went wrong:

- Keisha out on the Friday, Jade in on the Sunday and the video being shot on the Tuesday. They were asking too much from fans in such a short space of time.

- Pushing the album back. Seeing as they were insistent on releasing "About A Girl", they should have released the record the following week to capitalise on the Christmas sales.

- "Wear My Kiss". Not single material at all. Enough said.

- Interviews regarding what happened with Keisha. Ladies - if you aren't going to tell us exactly what happened & why it happened, then keep your mouths shut.

- Lack of promotion. It was just awful this go-round.

- The album leaking two months early and not a single thing being done about it. Seriously - how do you expect to sell an album that people can get for free TWO months early?!

- The music itself. It was too much of a change in musical direction for the girls, and they were asking too much of fans. I also believe, in my opinion, that it's a weak album. Very generic and doesn't really offer anything innovative or creative.

- Performing old songs. I don't see the point of singing hits you didn't sing on when you're supposed to be promoting songs from your new album. It was also too soon to be doing performances of old songs. I don't have anything against them doing it, I just think they shoulda saved it for the tour.

I'm sure there's more, but these stood out for me.

The way I see it is they had two choices - 1) They could have scrapped 'Sweet 7' altogether and started working on new material. That way, the public would have had time to get used to everything aswell as the girls finding their own sound with a new vocalist in the group. Or 2) If they were adamant to release the album (which they were), then "About A Girl" should have been pushed back until February with the album's release following a week later.

Fabulous analysis, how do you think they can turn things around?

Thank you!

Hmm...well, I don't think there's anything strong enough on this album to save it. There's no "About You Now" or "Push the Button" type of song - and that's what they need. Even if they had it, I think releasing it at this point would be too late. In all honesty, I really think they should forget about releasing "Crash & Burn" and just take a few months off. Let everything cool down. Let the public miss them and get used to them. Jade joining is still taking some getting used to by fans. I also think they should stop trying so hard to do a different sound - stick to what you're good at. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

There was a time when this group was known for setting trends, not following them. They didn't need a sexy image and raunchy music videos to sell their music.

I'd have them take four months off (doing nothing but bond with eachother, chill out, do other things, etc) and then get them back in the studio working on the next album, ready to release next year. The label/management is as much to blame, too. The lack of concern about 'Sweet 7' leaking two months early is worrying. And the lack of promotion was just pathetic.

i really cant undersstand why they even wanna release crash n burn

it makes my ears BLEED

70k! 70! Not a huge different but still.....
LMFAO! Aled you are AMAZING! Definately one of the funniest posters on BJ
Thank you!

How about Miss Everything? That song features Sean Kingston and he's fairly big in the club scene? I don't think C&B will do anything for the era, I hope I'm wrong.

I completely agree.

The minute management seized 100% power they were f***ed

^ Yup. It was just a huge mess. Even first time girl groups get better promotion & support.

I forgot how "Miss Everything" goes, but I don't think it'd do much. I actually think anything they release now from the album won't enter the top 10. If they can manage to write a killer pop song that's instant and catchy, they'll be fine providing the rest of the material is to a good standard.

I still think they have a shot. They just need guidance by a team that supports them...and they currently don't have that.

They need a new management team.

Miss Everything has some amazing Lyrics in it. It could be a hit as long as R1/clubs support it.

The landscape has changed musically, Sugababes are dinosaurs now, the days of successful girl bands are as good as over

GCC despite loads of hype had pathetic sales, The Saturday's are struggling big time, Girls Aloud are yesterday's news, Sugababes are as much a victim of the changing climate musically as they are the image problems they suffer from because of all the line up changes and loss of the fanbase
