November 23, 200915 yr I'm no Mariah fan (except 'Obsessed', which I admit is a brilliant song ) but calling her obscene? That's a bit far... Yes ok, her demands may be a bit divaish, but obscene?! Like others have said, this is surely just an excuse to have another dig at Mariah.
November 23, 200915 yr Exactly Cremey. I haven't missed any point Rob. She has money so she can ask. If she gets refused then fine. Edited November 23, 200915 yr by Crazy Chris
November 23, 200915 yr I am by no means Mariah's biggest fan, but it annoys me everytime this quote gets whipped out when she never actually said it... http://www.snopes.com/quotes/carey.asp And how do we actualy know that this source is accurate....? -_- She could have sued at the time for libel or slander, and seeing as how quite a few publications disseminated the quote (all of whom could have been named in the action as co-defendants), the lawsuit could have been potentially MASSIVE... She didn't, so that leads me to suspect she actually did say it....

I'm sure if you take a look at the rest of the site you'll find it argues on the basis of sense and proof :P The fact it was written in a satirical magazine leads me to believe that it is a satirical statement that wasn't actually said by her...none of the places that reported it gave a source, and logically the burden of proof is on them to prove it was said.
November 23, 200915 yr i think theres a huge pertainant discussion to be had opulance vs poverty ... this latest mariah episode is being used to start it. you say that westfield wouldnt be giving the money to charity instead... well maybe they should. But isn't that true for any situation? We could all give more to charity, but lavish expenses don't take away from them. Mariah getting doves wouldn't have had any effect on children in Africa. I'm sure the amount of people who go "actually I won't buy this brand new sports car, I'll get a cheap second hand one and donate the difference" (or similar) are few and far between. She didn't even get the doves and kittens, which was the only ridiculous request (though I doubt she asked for them) so I don't get the big deal. The costs of her appearance would have been a drop in the ocean anyway, we raise around £20 million a year on Children In Need (and more every two years for Comic Relief) and the problems never go away. Poverty, in our own country, is too big a thing for us to stop with a nationwide fundraiser (I'm sure Children In Need is UK only?) so I'm not sure there'll ever be a time when it's over. I'm not saying we shouldn't bother, but I see it as something we can only reduce, it'll never go away.

November 26, 200915 yr I've never liked Simon Cowell, but anyone who can basically dictate terms to little Miss Diva Panties Pariah in the way that he did (ie, to basically TELL her "if you do Strictly Come Dancing, you can fukk right off if you think you're getting on X-Factor") has, on one level, kind of got my grudging respect..... Well done sir, on this one occasion for actually being able to put that shockingly AWFUL bint in her place...... And you all know just how much I hate Cowell, so can anyone even imagine how much I must utterly DETEST Pariah....... Couldn't put it better myself, I too can't abide that music fascist money spinner, but to put Mariah in her place has to be admired. It's probably a case of her demands being slighty over-blown as the media traditionally do, but I'm confident her demands were still waaaay beyond reasonable. I think the comment from someone saying "you'd do it if you had the money" is just a little bit silly. Surely anyone with a soul would refrain from such self-indulgence. I doubt Richard Branson expects the same treatment whenever he makes a public visit. Edited November 26, 200915 yr by ScottyEm

I doubt Richard Branson expects the same treatment whenever he makes a public visit. Indeed it is, you're right... It seems that some people think that merely having money can excuse pretty much anything or any type of fukked up behaviour.... Well, Pariah has enough money to hire a contract killer doesn't she...? Should she then do that....??? Okay, extreme example, but still, you get the point..... I've often wondered why it is that people with money and power who go off the rails are called "eccentric", while the rest of us mere mortals if WE go off the rails are just called "weirdos" and locked up......
November 27, 200915 yr tbf to Cowell he paid over £21m in tax last year in the UK so he has stayed and paid his dues which is more than many rich people do with their offshore trusts etc, Cowell pays the full 40% tax

And not fiddling his taxes...??? Please mate.... As Chris Rock once said "A n**** wants credit for sh!t he supposed to do....."

As Chris Rock once said "A n**** wants credit for sh!t he supposed to do....." I can't stand Cowell either but I will at least give him some credit for not rushing off to some tax haven. Of course, if he can persuade a few others to do the same thing, I'll give him even more credit. Perhaps he could start with one of his business partners, Philip Green. He, you will remember, is the one who paid a £2 billion dividend to his wife ("based" in Monaco) rather than to himself to avoid paying tax on it.

Well, I consider Philip Green to basically be a criminal.... And I would almost certainly prosecute him for fraud.... Okay, Cowell gets credit for NOT being a crooked, fraudulent w/anker.... But he IS still a w/anker for other reasons.....LOL....
November 29, 200915 yr I've rarely seen an article so obviously fictional as the one posted at the beginning of this debate... People venting their hatred of Mariah Carey through the writing of cheap pieces in the media is certainly nothing new but it is uninspired. Lazy journalism at its best, on a par with people being shockingly nasty about Dannii Minogue simply because she's Kylie's less successful sister. I'm embarassed for all of the usual culprits who genuinely seem to believe that she requested to be surrounded by kittens and doves (?!?!). You only need to watch Mariah's interviews to see that she's a likeable person who positively loves to take the piss out of herself. Perhaps she didn't sue because articles like this only give her more material to work with when she's donning her diva moniker during promotional rounds and showing anybody who'll give her a chance that actually, she's not a big cunt. This is why I hate training to be a journalist at times. If I ever have to take on a job that involves sitting behind the desk and making up quotes from 'sources' I'll jack it all in. I'd rather be unemployed. The only debate to be had here is surely whether anybody who becomes outraged by such a transparent article as this should even be allowed access to a forum intended for intellectual discussion.

In your opinion. .... and craigs and scotts and a host of others too...
