Well, at least Muppets and Ga Ga aren't being run on false and duplicitous "opposing campaigns" to boost the coffers of one particular Corporation.... So, I have considerably less problem with that.... Any REAL fan of Rage Against the Machine should be outraged after being presented with the facts as to the nature of who it is that's running this campaign....

If the campaign itself is being run dishonestly, then it matters not one jot for me how cool the band themselves are and how honest they are.... I think it's been established by Xmas Presence, Richie and others that there is serious doubts as to the FB campaign's motives.... So, while the band themselves are getting into this with the very best of intentions, well, I think we all know that saying regarding what the road to hell is paved with......

I have no beef with RATM or Tom Morello, my beef is 100% with the manipulators running this campaign..... I will NOT be buying into this campaign anymore, because there really is nothing worse than being lied to or cheated.... Especially when people you actually respect are being manipulated too, and being used by serious operators........ The fog has well and truly been lifted for me, pity others cant see the light.....

I think the only person being gullible here is yourself.

Well done for falling hook line and sinker for Max Clifford's misinformation. Either that or the heated discussion on Radio 5Live this morning between Tony Morello and Max Clifford was about as scripted as Mick McManus on WWE!!!!

I would not mind betting that Max Clifford has used his contacts/influences to get the Facebook page shut down because of the threat it has created towards the X-Factor.

The main group crashed I think.....

:o You're going for the straightforward, simple explanation rather than the conspiracy theory?

Yeah, right Rich.....

You cant even get TOM Morello's name right..... And, like I said, TOM Morello is probably in it for all the RIGHT reasons, but that doesn't mean that fukkin' SONY are you prat....... <_<

And it appears that JonMorter has gone and actually CHANGED the info on the campaign backup site now to excise any mention of his involvement with the Astley thing......

Well seeing how RATM are actively supporting the cause, with Tony Morello on the phone on Radio 5Live this morning, then by your logic all their political subversive causes are a sham as well then aren't they?

Is anyone actually suprised that RATM are supporting the cause? A Greatest Hits on the back of this could become a nice little earner for them....

The REAL conspiracy here is that Sony are manufacturing this "war" between a Manufactured Puppet and an Alternative act with a genuine reputation in order to boost profit.... That is the fact..... And now the cracks are seriously beginning to show in the whole thing..... No one, not even Richard, can deny the FACT that Sony benefits financially from getting No1 and No2 no matter WHO IT IS that wins out.....

Read the thread. Perhaps do a little research on RATM. PLEASE.

Do this BEFORE posting next time.

A Greatest Hits on the back of this could become a nice little earner for them....

Now, that is just bollocks.... If they were gonna do that sort of thing, they'd've done it during the reunion tour dont you think.....? Sony clearly NEED RATM's permission to put out a "Best Of...", or they'd've done it ages ago....

No, Morello is a genuine guy who's being fooled by a very clever viral campaign, which almost had ME fooled as well as a long-time fan of the band.....

Yeah, right Rich.....

Still the Rickroll wording at the top. This is orginally 2008's ULTIMATE RICKROLL Group

Taken a print screen now.

Now I see someone is suggesting Sex Pistols - God save the queen.

Wouldn't that of been a far better choice, given that it'n not on Sony and that it was a single with a history of an undeserved missing at #1.

Yep, can see it....

Rich, I still cant see how anyone who's supposed to be a genuine "fan" of RATM can go from being involved in the "Rickroll" thing to boosting KITNO unless there's something dodgy going on.....

Indeed.... I think the campaign for next year should focus as much on "Fukk Sony" as "Fukk the X-Factor".....

Sony are the bigger problem here, the bigger threat to real music IMO...

That's been done before though.

At X-mas...? When...?

Not at xmas as far as i know, but other times. These campaigns are always going

on throughout the year.

Oh, now come on Richard, Chris... I think the proof is now here for anyone to read for themselves.....

Well, I for one will NOT be supporting this sham, this LIE, this fukkin' FARCE of a campaign anymore..... <_< What does this have to do with "Alternative" or Rock Rebellion..... Prick Astley????? The "singing teaboy"..... Are they having a fukkin' laugh.....????

GO MUPPETS........ This is the ONLY real Anti-Cowell contender now...... Or, heck, Lady Ga Ga..... Why not.....? She aint manufactured by Cowell or Walsh, and she dont need no fake-ass Facebook campaign to get herself noticed........

Im not going to not buy RATM to 'f*** sony', mainly to 'f*** cowell', also i'd just like to see a song like KITN at number 1, I dont even take it as proof, could just be a coincidence, it isnt going to stop me backing this campaign, especially when Tom Morello is behind it and the giving to Shelter.

Yes GaGa isnt manufactured by Cowell or Walsh, doesnt stop her being manufactured as f***, but thats a different arguement.

If the Muppets has as many backers as RATM, i'd go for Muppets, but it doesnt have a chance compared to rage.

Well seeing how RATM are actively supporting the cause, with Tony Morello on the phone on Radio 5Live this morning, then by your logic all their political subversive causes are a sham as well then aren't they?

As are the likes of John Lydon; Radiohead; Manic Street Preachers; Kasabian; Damon Albarn; Jarvis Cocker; etc who are encouraging people to buy the RATM record then aren't they?

I think you are forgetting that with the Punk movement the Sex Pistols were signed to Virgin; The Clash were signed to CBS (Sony); The Jam were signed to Polydor; etc which contradicts the whole Do It Yourself ethos does it not?

As John Lennon once said: "the most effectively way to create a revolution or change is from within the system"

It's Tom Morello, not Tony mate. and could you link me to a recording of that phone interview by any chance, or tell me exactly what he said?

Oh and Rich makes his point well with The Clash being on Sony aswell.

Is anyone actually suprised that RATM are supporting the cause? A Greatest Hits on the back of this could become a nice little earner for them....

I'm sorry are you an idiot? RATM have said, all their profits are going to Shelter, they made the music, obviously they are going to be supportive of it.

Rage doing a greatest hits? are you mad? or have you literally not have a clue about this band at all, or even seen any posts me/grimly/thisispop have made, There will never be a RATM greatest hits ever. heck, they didnt even let their Readin Festival 2008 appearance appear on BBC TV because of who the BBC are, they didnt want to be paid for it and they didnt want the extra promotion from being on TV, they arent in it for their own personal gain or profits. legitimate bands dont release greatest hits.

Muppets and Gaga are out there to make as much money as they can, which is one of the reasons why some people are against X Factor having the Christmas No.1. That and the fact that the race for the Christmas No.1 shouldn't be as clear-cut and predictable as it has been for the last four years. No.1's in the past haven't been musical brilliance but about novelty and something diverse, instead of cover versions of songs that have already been successful in the charts. If the X Factor is as good as it is made out to be, why can't they have an original winner's song? The answer is that they won't make as much money because it has no history to it. The same reason why Lucie and Danyl were put in the bottom two this series, even though they were the best performers on the night on each of their songs - because the public want to hear something tried and tested.

As I said, if the protest is to be anti-commercialist then Muppets and Gaga aren't the way to go. Disney have fast-tracked a single release purely and simply to make money, and Gaga is played all the time on radio. RATM was chosen partly because of the band's anti-commercialist ways, but equally partly because of the name of the band and the name of the song. Those behind the campaign tried last year with Rick Astley and failed, so this time they had to come up with something which sounded better, more rebellious and was more of a personal attack towards Cowell - so Rage Against The Machine (Cowell) was it. It may be a gimmick, but it's no more gimmicky than a bunch of puppets singing along to a Queen song, or a girl climbing out of a bathtub to perform her latest single.

So what if the guy ran a similar campaign on Facebook last year? It wasn't the one that had the majority of people getting behind it, so because he's doing it this year again shouldn't be cause to suspect him of benefitting himself or a record company. I have run campaigns in the past to get songs into the charts, but it wasn't about me or anyone else getting financial rewards.
