Yay, more chart questions!

So yeah, last week there was a #9 hit for Chuckie with 'Let The Bass Kick In Miami Bitch'. Apparently, Chuckie is from Suriname. I'm just wondering if there have ever been any other artists with fairly uncommon nationalities having such a successful single in the UK?

I'm not sure if artists from Bahamas have scored a lot of Top 10s before. But if not, Baha Men 'Who Let The Dogs Out'?
Ehhh... well if you count Belgium with Technotronic I guess... and Brazil with Corona? Ivo Robic from Yugoslavia in the 50's with a song in GERMAN!!! Mory Kante in the 80's came from I believe the Ivory Coast. Rihanna you could count as Barbadian. "Alane" by Wes was a #11 hit in 1998 he came from Cameroon.

Judged purely by the size of population you could count Bjork (from Iceland - pop. 300,000) who has had three top ten singles.

Mika was born in Beirut to a Lebanese mother.

Another one: O-Zone were Moldovan. "Uptown top ranking" Jamaican. Barefoot Man from Cayman Islands got to #29 in 1998. You could count Roger Whittaker for Kenya. Arrow's "Hot hot hot" from Montserrat (pop. 3000)

Tatjana from Croatia with "Santa Maria" in the mid 1990s.

Rozalla from Zimbawe with "Everybody's Free" in 1991.

Kevin Little from St Vincent with "Turn Me On" in 2003.

Hmm, I've racked my brain a bit and managed to come up with only one that has not already been mentioned - Shontelle this year, she's Barbadian too. I suppose A.R. Rahman (Indian) counts too?

Some pretty interesting stuff here guys :o I forgot about O-Zone lol, Dragostea Din Tei was epic.

I still doubt there's anyone from a more obscure nation than Suriname that has had a UK top 10 though... nobody from Djibouti? Or Sao Tome and Principe? ;o

Verka Serduchka from Ukraine had a top 30 hit here in 2007 :kink:
Katie Melua is Georgian (the former Soviet country, not the US state)

DJ Quicksilver was from Turkey and had top 20 hits in 1997.

Sharleen Spiteri from Texas is half Maltese - would that count?
