Is anyone else actually bored of this campaign? I think I was before it started, neither song truly deserves the sales their gonna get.

No. RATM will have a DESERVED number of sales if it stops Cowell using the Xmas No1 as his personal play thing. ^_^

I've got a feeling he won't catch up now. Maybe people will shut up moaning then. Or maybe Simon will merely arrange a few more signings, haha.

Either way we will still have a Christmas #1 that got there merely because of the X Factor which does sort of defeat the objective

Precisely. There are many XF fans who would buy the single regardless of who won or what it was, whereas the RATM are buying to stop joe. How mnay of those who downloaded RATM have actually listened to it more than 5 times? Personally i like RATM and have had this song amongst others on my pc for years but i dont feel the need to rebuy it to stop someone getting a #1. Lets face it, Joe wont be dropped, he'll release another song soon enough and an album, there will be another XF and it will try for #1 again, it wont have stopped anything except put a bizarre rock song in the "Top 20 Xmas songs of the 2000's"

I think you'll find people would be supporting the rage campaign regardless of who won won the X-Factor and the particular monstrosity they unleashed.

Correct malawrd <_<

So they buy Rage to stop a song they didnt know who was going to song or what the song was, so like XF fans preorder a song by someone they dont know who's going to win and what they're going to sing?

Either way you just buy a song because you like it, not because some TV show or internet campaign has turned you into a sheep

If "Rage Against the Machine" look like they're going to take #1, then Simon will add Joe's EP to iTunes on Friday evening. That will give Joe just enough sales to overtake Rage.

...and THAT IMO should not be allowed.

Soyou really think everyone buying the Climb think's it's a brilliant, well thought out pop song?

Of course they dont, they are buying it because it's the X factor, it doesnt matter how shit it is. I guarantee you alot more MUSIC FANS who actually LIKE RAGE are buying Rage than people who think Joe has released a great song.

RATM are still at #1 in today's midweeks. :D :D :D

More than 80,000 CD sales yesterday were not enough to allow Joe McElderry’s The Climb to overtake Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In the Name at the top of the midweek singles charts.

However, the physical release of the single from the X Factor winner did allow it to cut the LA band’s lead at the top of the midweeks to just under 37,000 copies today from around 65,000 yesterday, according to figures from the Official Charts Company.

Killing In The Name has sold around 253,000 copies so far this week, all of them digital. The majority of The Climb’s sales are still digital but this may change with the CD single now widely available.

Many retailers who do not traditionally stock CD singles – including Asda and Tesco – are stocking The Climb on CD.

The two singles are leading one of the closest races in years for the Christmas number one single. A number of bookmakers have now installed Rage Against The Machine as the favourite to top the festive charts.

Big physical day my ARSE. :P

Erm well by that way of thinking, RATM must be even worse at it peaked at no25 in 1993.

So what? Proves that both songs are only doing well with the help of 'outside forces'. The Climb via X-Factor, KITN via this campaign. And I've never said that KITN was a great song ... I've said I've grown to like it. Those who are championing The Climb are going on as though its some sort of 'classic' ... its a sh/tty song from a sh/tty film sung by a nice boy with an average, albeit sweet little voice.

By the way ... if I do choose to buy the RATM song ... it WILL be just as a protest ... because I detest Dale Winton's square headed long-lost twin and all that he stands for. He doesn't give a toss about good music. To be honest ... now that he has so much money (well he was pretty much stinking rich to begin with) he doesn't even care about money ... its POWER the man wants ... and him having his Xmas number one gives him just that little bit more.

Why not? lots of artists have EPs...
Yeah and release in the middle of the week in a clear blatant attempt to rig a chart... so enormously annoying, shows what you can do if you have the strings in your hands <_<
It not looks so good now, hate Simon And this f***ing song.

Read again. I said you shouldn't buy a song because a tv show tells you too (X Factor) or an internet campaign (RATM). Well my friend brought Rage on Monday and still hasn't listened to it yet and you can see on Facebook all those who are buying 3-4 copies, which imo is exactly the same as what's happening every year with the XF Winner. Either way the Xmas #1 and #2 are once again decided by the most retarded means ever. When every other RATM suddenly goes top 10 thanks to all these MUSIC FANS suddenly discoevring the band then we'll talk.

I'm just quoting a report in Music Week.

Don't get upset just because Rage Against the Machine are still MILES ahead even with Joe's physical single now in stock. Hehe! :P

I'm not upset :P I'm happy because Joe is catching up. :)

I reckon RATM might be further ahead tomorrow.. :)

Using the figures from the article above:

  • Rage sold approximately 78k, for a total of 253k
  • Joe sold approximately 106k yesterday (of which 80k were from the CD single), for a total of 216k
For comparison, Alexandre Burke sold approximately 104k on the equivalent day after her CD single was released.

If everyone loved the Climb why didnt they buy it when Miley Cyrus released it?
