Blimey these charts aren't even about music anymore - people are buying Joe cos they don't want Rage at #1 people are buying Rage cos they don't want an X Factor #1 - does anybody even like what they are buying? R any of you either side going to be listening to these purchases in 4 weeks time? Ive never known anything like it - the charts are becoming ridiculous. Its constantly the blind, leading the blind following the deaf! Both sides are just being hypocritical.

I wish George Michael would get x-mas #1 with December Song - a song a like and would be happy to listen to in July

At least though, the people buying RATM are honest enough to give their reasons ... they want to stop the machine that is Simon Cowell. Those buying The Climb are saying they're buying it because its a 'good song'. If its a 'good song' how come Miley Cyrus didn't trouble the top 10 with it ... answer ... the song is sh/te! People are buying it because they've seen a 12 week advert for it. Besides ... people aren't necessarily buying the X-Factor song for themselves ... they're buying them as 'stocking fillers' and instead of Christmas cards in the mistaken belief that the recipient will actually bother putting it in their CD player!

By the way ... I still haven't downloaded RATM yet ... although I'm liking the song (a lot thanks to that youtube video of it) there are still other songs I prefer. If there is a campaign next year, with a song that can also have the benefit of a physical release .... I'll be behind it 100% .... and I may even buy a few of those 'stocking fillers'.

Don't people understand that RATM is a serious attempt to get the validation of the charts back?

But the song is terrible! What made them choose this rubbish?

It's most of all the line "f*** you I won't do what you tell me" x17 as a reaction to Simon "The Grinch" "Stalin" Cowell's rampage. I can get into that. The point wouldn't come across if we would've gone for Girls Aloud's "Call the shots" I fear

Fans of X Factor winner Joe McElderry besieged HMV in his home town of South Shields yesterday as he signed copies of his new CD there.

But his chances of beating rivals Rage Against The Machine to the Christmas No1 took a blow as his record company failed to get the CD into many shops yesterday, blaming "distribution issues".

Only Asda and HMV had copies, with other outlets expecting it today.

Latest figures show Joe's single The Climb is 60,000 sales BEHIND Rage's 1992 hit Killing In The Name, which is being bought as a protest vote against Simon Cowell's show.

The two songs combined had sold around 300,000 downloads last night.

However, retail insiders insisted Joe had clocked up 80,000 more yesterday, which will close the gap.

His CD may also be bought later this week by fans who have already downloaded the single as it contains two of his X Factor songs as bonus tracks, Somebody to Love and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

Joe, 18, is downplaying the chart battle. He said: "It's the same as any song going against another song in a normal chart. Good luck to them."

He signed 500 copies of his CD for fans, some of whom had queued overnight with tents and umbrellas, braving freezing temperatures, to make sure they got wristbands for the Tyneside signing.

Among the fortunate few were Jamara Cook, 19, and her four friends.

She said: "We've been here since 5.30am. My toes are numb, but we wanted to get a signed copy of Joe's new single and see him in person."

BEATEN

Hmv spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said he was still tipping Joe to top the chart. He said: "It's going to be a much closer race than predicted but we remain confident Joe will do it."

Beaten finalist Olly Murs also backed Joe: "I am going to buy his single today. Joe's going to be phenomenal," he told the Mirror.

If he doesn't make it, Joe will be the first X Factor winner not to debut at No1. The past four winners took the Christmas top spot and in the first series Steve Brookstein's single was released at the end of the year and also got the main prize.

They should have chosen "f*** you" by Lily Allen :P - What other song puts it more clearly than that?

"...f*** you very much, we hate what you do and we hate your whole crew..."

Good idea for next year nevertheless

Maybe release a "British Artists Against X-Factor" like Hungary did for Homophobia

I knew it aint over yet even his lead is getting bigger and bigger,

I hate this!!!! Don't give up we should win!

I really hope Glee can make the top 40 come sunday!
What do you mean by "Joe deserves the #1" where does it tell you he deserves it? Bcoz he's a pretty boy and has an angel voice?

Bull$hit! He's a karaoke act who happened to sing on that track. It doesn't make him #1.

Totally agree -I have never heard such a stupid comment.Joe deserves the No 1 more than the other winners why, for having the worst song, worst video, worst CD cover and worst pair of wellington boots.Just because he is pleasant, I think he has the least talented of all the other winners bar Leon.RATM all the way to No 1.

But the song is terrible! What made them choose this rubbish?

BANG HEAD BAND HEAD

WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO LEARN WHAT RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE STAND FOR FFS. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE = THIS CAMPAIGN.

Oh and i despise nothing more than this Joe DESERVES #1 bull$h!t. How does winning a talent show mean you DESERVE #1?! There are thousands of more talented acts who struggle to get a break ffs, dont they deserve it more?!

Is anyone else actually bored of this campaign? I think I was before it started, neither song truly deserves the sales their gonna get.

Erm well by that way of thinking, RATM must be even worse at it peaked at no25 in 1993.

Today we should see how Joe has done with physicals attached, I wonder how well he do to catch up with Rage.

I so so SO hope we get sales today :D

While im dissapointed Joe might not get #1 :( I'm excited we have a true battle for Xmas #1.

Also for that argument... Miley and Joe are different artists and a lot of songs chart differently because of the artist. In that sense, it gives more of a reason for a song to go from #11 to the Top 2 as someone else is doing it that #25 to the Top 2 with the exact same version. :P

I've got a feeling he won't catch up now. Maybe people will shut up moaning then. Or maybe Simon will merely arrange a few more signings, haha.

Either way we will still have a Christmas #1 that got there merely because of the X Factor which does sort of defeat the objective

Well is anyone else actually bored of an X Factor no.1? Yes.
SuBo has sold 139k on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. It's not looking promising for her to beat her debut week, although Saturday will play a huge part in her sales. I think she'll sell between 280-350k this week. Also, sales as a whole should be up next week as there are 5 days to buy Christmas presents and then one day of sales.
