I don't think RATM will fall that quickly next week to be honest - hype in the media, whether it gets to #1 or #2 on Sunday, should keep it at least top ten I reckon

I can see both Joe and Rage falling out of the top 5 next week.

Would love Cheryl to be #1 next week

yep it is gonna get played on radio chart countdowns, xmas TOTPs ect. plus because it is download only it wont lose sales on xmas and boxing day when shops are shut and cds cant be purchased. it will be top 10 at leats next week to.

What about The Muppets?
I wouldn’t be too bothered if a great song was released and proved more popular on its own accord, but RATM single is only a hit because of the campaign and it most likely wouldn’t even have dented the Top 100 had it just been a standard new single release.

Maybe that's another reason for the choice .... it emphasises just how despised Simon Cowell and his hold over the nation is at this time every year.

Having said that ... I don't know if it is that Youtube video or what ... but I actually like the song now.

What about The Muppets?

They're busy - you'll find them on Andrea Bocelli's latest album doing Jingle Bells

No I'm not making it up...

It won't fall quickly next week with just 5 days of shopping, Christmas Day is on a Friday, obviously shops are closed, and Saturday probably be normal hours but closing early. It should stay top 10 at least, the week after might show some effect.

The RATM track is terrible, so is the X factor song.

I wish people would actually spend their money on FAirytale of New York.

At least we would have a xmas song @#1.

I'm surprised Alicia Keyes is doing so well, considering its a very dull track that even flopped in her own country.

For the 1st time in a looooooong time I actually care about the xmas #1

I'm gonna start the campaign for the Pogues next year

That's my feelings too. I dislike the X Factor taking away the chart battle and everything which made the Christmas number one a bit special but I'm not keen on the song choice or the way it's turned into more of a hate campaign. Christmas shouldn't be about that!

I'd like us to have Christmas songs again. I actually think The X Factor could have done that really seeing as the debut single is usually forgotten after their second single.

It's already been suggested by a lot of people - including me - particularly as it will be the 10th anniversary of Kirsty MacColl's death.

I honestly don't know why so many people today think RATM have a good chance now. Okay big lead today but as Mike Read said on BBC Breakfast, Joe will win easily with physicals included. I'll eat my shirt if he doesn't. It's everywhere in our Tesco, on displays all over the store and I saw loads of people popping one in their trolley.

Needs a physical too though!!!

That's a good point - no Woolies this year :o

But supermarkets sell the x factor singles. i bought mine in tescos last year and loads others were too grabbing them with their shopping

To me this is just another example of why this campaign is a bloody good one ... regardless of whether the song is liked or not. X-Factor starts off with a huge advantage over other singles as its stocked in every supermarket under the sun. Not only that ... but its usually placed a Point of Sale. I'm sure if Robbie's single, GaGa's single, etc were even sold in supermarkets now ... the gap between X-Factor song and others wouldn't be so strong. X-Factor gets what it deserves. Tough if Joe suffers as a result of it ... it'll be a lesson in life for him (besides ... contrary to what everyone on here thinks ... he really ain't that great a singer.)

If this campaign doesn't work this year but lessens the gap between X-Factor and #2 ... then it'll just make next year's campaign even stronger.
