I think they should release both versions out of the final 2 (eg. release both Joe & Olly), and whoever sells more is the winner. That way, it would probably sell more. Trouble is, they might split it.

To make it fairer (for people that don't know how to download), they could also do a phone vote and combine the two, but that kinda defeats the object as people would just phone vote.

Like they did in popstars - the rivals?. have a live show on the Sunday before xmas, with the winner announced at 7.00pm.?

I think that would be good but they'd have to be given different songs like in Popstars, having 3 versions of The Climb in the charts would be too much!

I think that would work better anyway, SOTU for Girls Aloud was a brilliant song and suited the group perfectly. If they gave the two finalists a good song that suits them then it'd make the final much better

I think the most realistic thing that will happen is that Simon will make sure the song is a dead cert to sell 600,000+

And that is certainly not the worst thing that could happen.

I'd be happy for the X Factor winner to be number 1 if the product was up to scatch.

He's just far too complacent at the moment and it has dented his ego that he has been shown up to have significant opposition. He may have thought no one seriously could challenge him. It may even make him a better person.

Hopefully it will. This will teach them to WRITE THEIR OWN ORIGINAL SONGS so maybe could be the Christmas No 1 again.

For goodness sake - stop this awful x-factor campaign. Thank God they haven't released more of the shocking "The Climb". Go to Disneyland, mate.

I think they should move it to January like Pop Idol, 2/3 weeks wait after the final Is hardly a long wait is it?

Yea I think they should probably both have different songs

it would be better if the final was the week after christmas and the single first week of january - sales that week are usually higher than christmas week now - what with parents getting their children itunes gift cards for christmas

This is an interesting point, I was going to say no to moving X Factor to the first week in January as this is traditionally when we used to get surprise number ones by smaller acts when the big guns were resting e.g. Iron Maiden's Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter.

the trouble with Popstars the rivals was that due to the mid-week charts, we all knew Girls Aloud had won, so the final had no suspense.

the latest on XFactor seems to be that the final will simply move to a week earlier, which I think would be a good move, and would give 2 weeks of big sales.

what Cowell really needs to do though is get the cheque book out and pay for a good song from a top songwriter. Even 'hardcore' XFactor fans are becoming bored of the songs. Last years choice of Hallelujah was a bit unexpected, and its high sales reflected that the public were pleased with it. Whereas dull choices like 'when you beleive' and the 'climb' have performed less well.

That's my goal is the best selling XFactor winners song, and that's the only one which was original (it was recorded before, but never released)

as I said earlier in the thread, ITV have little to no interest in Xmas Day or January, as advertising rates are much lower.

this is why they wheel out the big guns like XFactor, I'm a Celeb etc before Xmas, as all the big brands want to advertise their xmas tat.

The day Cowell moves the final to Christmas Day is the day he truly crosses the line of reality and actually becomes Ebenezer Scrooge.

Tbh, X-Factor is stale now, and this year has proven that the majority of the British music buying public don't want it anymore. Come out with something fresh instead.

In the Ukraine for Eurovision 2006 they had an X Factor competition. All 3 finalists had to write their own song... I'd like that here actually...

Isn't that just the faintest praise ever?

'That's My Goal' was a Westlife Reject - even THEY did not

want it! To my ears, it is weak, filmsy, garbage.

It would not have even sold 100,000 copies had Shayne

not Won the 'X Factor'. People only bought it because he

Won. It is rather sad really - Songs Selling over a Million

due to a TV Show - rather than because of merit.....

I don't think having the show recorded on Christmas Day would be that much of a problem! There would be plenty of people eager to work on it regardless of day. The audience may not want to give up Xmas, granted, so I could see the audience being largely made up of friends/family/distant associates of the finalists, plus (if it's allowed) paid audience members too.
it also helps if the right singer won, and the song i mean no offence to miley cyrus or anything but seriously "the climb" was not the best choice of song. A Moment Like This was good, When You Believe was sorta alright considering that year wasn't my favourite year, and Hallelujah well isn't that ment to be a religious song, and at the time of year it was a good choice. Second reason I don't think the Climb was a good choice was that it had already been released this year!

A live show on Christmas Day? :l

As people said it would require alot of people giving up their whole Day for the Show.

Hmm...

Even though Joe didnt make no1 on the official xmas chart, he's gonna be no1 next sunday and he's still sold a shed-load and will undoubtly top the sales of Rage by the end of this week. So he's hardly lost out, x factor releases are still likely to dominate the charts due to their mass exposure.
