i've wanted to see this SO BAD since the first trailer, if only just for my bbgurl ellen page~ <3

luvthatlesbian

It's a shame that people are saying she's mostly their for exposition, but I don't care, Ellen Page will rock it regardless. Did you watch the 'meet the character' trailer? She looks absolutely stunning at the end of that. Watching it the day it comes out (although I will be going alone haha), I don't think I've ever done that before. I hope it's 100% streak on rotten tomatoes continues. Nolan has wanted to make this film for years, I wonder if this really will become his masterpiece? If it's as good as they say, the Oscars should make up for their snub of The Dark Knight and nominate it; from the praise the photography is getting, it good well be a contender for the cinematography award.

Edit:

Here is the sampler of the soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer.

This is looking absolutely incredible. I think they will be showing it in our cinemas too, MUST get there

9.1/10 on IMDb too, bloody hell...... :o :o This could turn out to be Film of the Year let's face it, we overuse the phrases "classic" and "masterpiece", but I think with Inception that this could actually be warranted, the more I see, the more I'm impressed by, and it takes a lot to impress me these days...

Nolan's scarcely ever put a foot wrong anyway.. From the moment I saw "Memento" and how that played around with form, structure and the Detective/Noir genre, I knew that Nolan was a very special kind of film-maker who had a unique vision, but I thought he was gonna be another one of those Indie directors who gets all the critical praise but doesn't quite receive mainstream recognition, or he'd become mainstream and sell out or lose the plot (like Tarantino or Cameron).. I was so glad to be proven wrong, because Dark Knight is easily every bit as complex and satisfying a work as "Memento" or "Prestige", and even his remake of Insomnia was well done and certainly one of the best remakes. He's right up there with David Fincher and Martin Scorcese as far as I'm concerned, a guy who makes the "big movies", but does it with real artistic integrity and vision, this is a very rare thing these days.... If this doesn't get a hatful of Oscar nominations next year (considering the absolute crap that was Avatar somehow managed to get beyond only being nominated for the technical awards...), there's something SERIOUSLY wrong with the MPAA....

So, respect to Mr Nolan for a very, very fine body of work (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and now Inception) in the past decade.. Insomnia is actually his "weakest" film (even though, like I say, that's pretty good too for a remake), and that's only really because he had nothing to do with the writing.... Nolan on a bad day is still about 10 times better than about 90-odd% of directors in Hollywood when they're supposedly at their best....

Going to see this tomorrow, not usually my sorta film but I LOVE the idea behind it. Oh and Ellen Page is amazing.

Totally agree with you, it's a shame that tracking suggests the weekend gross will only be around $45million, but that's pretty decent considering it's got a complex concept compared to most blockbusters. Hopefully word of mouth will mean it will have the legs to make a decent profit. I believe it very well could be a masterpiece, this is a film he has been passionate about making for a while now, and it seems to be very intimate despite the action, and seems to be tackling some interesting themes and subject matter in a unique way, through the idea of dreams. The Prestige (one of the best twists) and Momento are both classics, and like you said, Insomnia is his weakest film, but I still enjoyed it. It also seems that he has blossomed into directing action, which bodes well for Batman 3. I may not a get a chance to see this tomorrow as I will be busy getting ready to leave, which is a shame, I would have to watch the first showing, but I will have to skip a lesson that I can't afford to miss. And damn straight about the Oscars, the only reason it got a chance to be nominated in the first place was because of the change in rules following the uproar at The Dark Knight snub.

Nice to hear that, I hope you enjoy it :)

I agree with all the Nolan love, one thing I hate about Hollywood and mainstream films is that for the most part there is no art involved, no creativness, just mindless blockbusters, where as Nolan manages to make massive mainstream films but with the artistic integrity that should come with all films. He is the Scorcese of the last 10 years.

SEEING THIS TOMORROW, SUPER EXCITE~~

i really hope that the fanbase for it doesn't f*** the movie over like it did for the dark knight. saw that movie, loved it, still do, but the way people treated it via the internet / in real life / talked about it made me want to DIE. completely brought down the film in my eyes. it was a solid blockbuster but people were treating it like jesus a la avatar. annoying girls/boys from my high school (mainly hot topic fans and faux-intellectual nerds) started wearing joker shirts / taling about it constantly and it was literally the most obxious thing ever. not that you should judge really judge a movie by anything other than the actual movie itself, but i think the culture around a movie speaks a lot to the quality of a film and plays into your enjoyment of it all. would we hate twilight as much as if we do if twilight moms didn't exist?

and i think inception has the potential for that to happen, a few reviews i've read said that while an astounding film, that the plot isn't like this ULTRA-DEEP super-intellectual thing (for a mainstream blockbuster, yes easily, but in film history not even close) but that people are going to treat it like it is. but we shall see, i have a feeling i'm going to enjoy it immensely.

don't think it's going to beat toy story 3 for me though in terms of mainstream movie of the year. it's REALLY going to have to move me for that to ever happen. but it can be second best <3 (depending on how good scott pilgrim is)

plus, MY FAVORITE LESBIAN EVER ELLEN PAGE IS IN THIS <3 gotta support

AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!

That's all I've got to say about it, I need more time to digest it and need to see it at least once more before I make up my mind completely, but one of my favourite movies already. If you think of that scene in The Dark Knight (possibly the best one) when Nolan confidently moves the story around the three targets that the Joker wants to kill, as the tension builds up to when he breaks into the party: magnify that by 100 and you will start to get the idea of how masterfully directed and edited the inception dream sequences (which take up one half of the film) are. Nolan has had romantic storylines in his other films, but he has never done one this beautifully and tragically, that is the beating heart of the film. The ending really did leave a tear in my eye, the final image we are left with was just inspired  The themes Nolan deals with; reality and death, are explored wonderfully. Also this set of characters he has created are possibly the most fleshed out out of all of his movies, even if Ellen's character is really just one big plot device (her acting was still great regardless). One thing though: no sequel please, the ending really is perfect and one isn't required.

I thoroughly agree with this. I was blown away by this film. The whole concept behind it, the direction and casting were superb and spot-on! Couldn't have asked for a better cast imo. This is without doubt, the best film of this year so far. It blows 'The Dark Knight' out of the water too, imo.

It really is quite astonishing just how brilliant this film is - I went into it with VERY high expectations as a big fan of all of Nolans films, but I really did not expect to be blown away in such a way. There are just so many different elements to this film that define perfection - and it is so refreshing to see a mainsteam blockbuster that really challenges the viewer and messes with your mind, but not in a bland arrogant way. Just like 'The Prestige' once this ended I wanted to see it again and that is very rare. Everything about this was simply wonderful - and it seems the only complaints I have heard is that it is too complex for a blockbuster - rubbish in my view - that is what makes it an instant classic- it has everything.

Nolan really is by far the most exciting and original mainstream director there is right now - a mixture between Scorsese and Kubrick with some of that Spielberg magic thrown in. Can't wait for Batman 3 now. :D

Oh and Di Caprio truly has now become the most impressive 'movie star' around these days, certainly of his generation. He has chosen his films perfectly in the past decade - this along with hs other 2010 release 'Shutter Island' are probably my fave mainstream Hollywood films of the year.

OMG

i'll post thoughts later after i regain my composure

it was a damn good film tho

all these posts are making me really want to see it, I was tempted to go in the day yesterday so it wouldnt be too busy, but didnt because im a dick, might try to see this sometime this week, but Toy Story 3 is out Monday so that takes priority.

lol me too. I'm now to find out whether this movie is shown in here but i guess so far it hadn't because the CamRip hasn't been leaked yet

I'm going to see it today I think, looking forward to it!
Christopher Nolan is having a fantastic Saturday. Jerry Bruckheimer is not. For the Dark Knight director scored over $21 million on Friday for his original, mind-bending film Inception. (That includes the $3 million brought in from the opening midnight shows.) The Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer, from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, could now earn $60 million for its three-day opening frame.
Deserved.
This looks outstanding, i can't wait to see it. I'm currently trying to work out when my friends are free so i can see it

I can see why people could become obsessed with this Dark Knight stylee. It is very similar imo, and its a film that fanboys will no doubt love to pieces. For a blockbuster it ertainly is challenging, but a good challenging. This film definitely isn't for people who don't have a brain though. Some of the action sequences are superb - namely the hotel sequence (and the snow one (empire strikes back in 2010? ha)).

I don't think Nolan got the whole 'dream' thing entirely accurate, but I have my feelings this was maybe intentional. It's nothing major, but when explaining the art of entering dreams etc. I don't think the explanations the characters gave were entirely true if we're basing it on real life - but thats only a nitty gritty thing.

Casting was superb. Di Caprio is probably up there at the moment with Will Smith as the biggest movie star of the moment (although Di Caprio's films are much more critically acclaimed...). Ellen Page was good, but she was a major plot device and her character didn't give off much personality imo. Best performance by far was Tom Hardy. He is superb. But all of the characters were cast really well.

Loved the ending

although the spinning top was surely about to stop...and was purely there to make us think WHAT IF?!

Excellent movie but I have one slight gripe. Ellen Page's character steered Cobb's direction through the second quarter of the film far too easily. He let her in on his secrets far too quickly - consider the fact that he had been working with the others for years and hadn't told them anything. Unless I'm being a complete idiot and missed something that was later revealed. Plus Fischer was very handy with a gun for a business man.

Tom Hardy was the highlight for me.

I had very high expectations for this movie and they were met - only time will tell if it's an All Time great movie but the signs are good.
