January 10, 201015 yr To me its always been one of those great 80s tracks that everyone knew and has heard over the years. Then x-factor reminded people of the track and now its doing well just like it should have done in the 80s.
January 10, 201015 yr It's a really good classic song that few own a copy off. It charted before X-Factor, so that is not the reason for it's resurgance although it's appearance on XF gave it a temporary boast. As an instrumental and a sing along it works perfectly. All that makes it airplay and party friendly also. I do like the Glee cast version but prefer the original, due to the piano intro and guitar riff. Can now imagine DSB it will hang around the Top75 like Sex on Fire did last year.
January 10, 201015 yr The Glee version should fly up the charts next week, hopefully at least top 30!
January 10, 201015 yr Author Some people are so whiny  It's a great song adored by thousands. That good enough? Haha, I wasn't really complaining. :P I actually think it's a pretty good song, and I always like when the chart throws up quirks like this. But I just didn't understand it. It's not normal for songs to still be getting a boost from X Factor 4 weeks on; Beyonce's Listen had plummetted down by this stage last year. I guess Glee like some people are suggesting does make sense, but I actually didn't know it was *that* widely-known-of in the UK yet.

It's a domino effect, the song is being listened, people are buying it, telling other others, then they're buying it and telling others and then they do the same and so on, and the people that like it buy it, people just like it.... January 10, 201015 yr it needs to go away - that's for sure. when joe and rage are already in freefall, this still stands which is pretty odd. oh, and it's nearly 30 years old... it had its chance to be successful then and it wasn't.
January 11, 201015 yr Don't you guys think it's weird that their GH has done nothing compared to the song? Maybe people think the song is new?
January 11, 201015 yr Some people are so whiny  It's a great song adored by thousands. That good enough? well said.
January 11, 201015 yr it's nearly 30 years old... it had its chance to be successful then and it wasn't. I'm sure that thought flashes through people's minds as they're purchasing it... It's a hugely popular song though, it's like THE number one student anthem. I guess now it's up there and being widely recognised, it's gathering momentum. I don't believe it's solely down to Joe performing it on X-Factor, although that did undoubtedly boost it up to the higher echelons, it was selling consistently for a long time before that regardless.
January 11, 201015 yr Don't you guys think it's weird that their GH has done nothing compared to the song? Maybe people think the song is new? It's not chart eligible. I got the double CD for £4.99 from HMV and it seems to be a similar price on Amazon etc. It's a "budget" compiliation although I'm surprised that Sony haven't cobbled together (or reissued) a full price single disc version.

Then x-factor reminded people of the track and now its doing well just like it should have done in the 80s. There's a fly in that ointment... I was following pop music in the early 80's, but don't ever recall hearing this at the time.

January 11, 201015 yr  this song - Only heard it for the first time a few years back and downloaded it then so pleased it is doing well after all this time
January 11, 201015 yr People go on as if this is something new, old songs over the decades have always came back and become hits, either for the first time or again. In fact years ago many of them went to no.1. Cant really see what the problem is...

In fact years ago many of them went to no.1. Cant really see what the problem is... I fully agree with you There's nothing wrong with re-issues as long as their classics. Even if they were UK flops first time around. Back in the 60s, 70s & 80s there are many re-issues. I always that that this band was underrated in the UK. Even though it has actually spent 98 weeks on the chart since first released back in 1981 when it peakes at US #9 Though not on this track back in 1987/88 Randy Jackson (of American Idol) was bass player with the band. Vocalist was Steve Perry. Journey had 18 US hits (their biggest and best being Open Arms peaking at #2 in 1982). Steve Perry had 6 solo US hits (my favourite being Oh Sherrie) Edited January 11, 201015 yr by euro music
January 11, 201015 yr I was following pop music in the early 80's, but don't ever recall hearing this at the time. Journey were huge in America but never made much of an impact in the UK until recently. "Don't Stop Believin'" reached number 62 in 1982. I see that the compilation album that I mentioned in an earlier post is at number 91 this week. I thought that it would be ineligible due to the low dealer price but I must be wrong.
January 11, 201015 yr I wasn't keen on Journey, But I too liked 'Oh Sherrie', by Steve Perry. It was a USA No.3 Hit, in 1984. It did nothing here in the UK.

I thought that it would be ineligible due to the low dealer price but I must be wrong. I was just going to mention this. It was #128 last week as well, so it hasn't just been declared eligible.
