In what way did you see it first? :kink:

I just thought banning was a little harsh :kink:

Well, I think the whole Radio 1 lists and stuff is taking it a bit too far, since even they playlist obscure tracks sometimes that never even go anywhere in the charts.

What I dont like the most is "disqualified immediately" thing. If an entry does end up popping up in one of these lists or I-Tunes, you should give the country a chance to change its entry.

I think some of this is a bit extreme...

So in other words I need to start paying attention to Radio 1 charts (which I rarely look at, if ever anymore) MTV Hits charts (which I've never looked at) and then other charts which I usually see once a week just to make sure my entry doesn't become disqualified. Seems to be a bit on the ridiculous side imo.

I'm sorry that an entry I've discovered and may enter in the future could show up on one of these charts unbeknown to me. As said above, every track listed on one of these charts isn't necessarily destined to be a proper hit or have success in the BJSC anyway.

A "Cheap" entry is defined differently to everyone so I don't necessarily think these rules are right for the contest. I think these rules are a bit harsh to start right off with. But maybe that's just me.

If you choose the obscure song (i.e. you don't see blogs bumming it as the 'next big thing') the chances are very small it will get playlisted/on TV/a release within two weeks of voting process.

There is an appeals clause.

If your entry is playlisted on Radio1/MTV and it's come from nowhere and is very very unexpected you can appeal to the mods to allow your entry to stand

:/ As I don't follow charts / playlists whatsoever as I don't give a $h!t, I'm a little hesitant about the second part.

First part is fair.

The disqualification if your song is anyway successful seems a tad harsh, like what if it's completely out of nowhere?

Although I'm not that worried about it, I'm interested to see what difference it makes....

They said that if it's completely out of nowhere your entry might be allowed to stay.

If this rule would've been in place last time Story could've gone top 10

I just hope that it's not only the mods own appeals that are successful :kink:

A cheap entry is somewhat obviously popular, at some levels - through different charts, like the UK top 40 chart - but opinions may differ when it comes to the uninspired choices though..

this is a f***ing outrage, how am i meant to enter music that isnt on the radio 1 playlist, its the only place i hear music

there will ne no quality amazing music in this contest anymore, because all of that falls under what is banned.

I Blame Coco - 10” release on 1st February. By the looks of the current rules it'd have been DSQ-d :kink:

What are you on about Pavel? A 10" release isn't going to do a thing...

We have done :P But, as we've said, if it's a truly bizarre case, then we'll take that into account. We have given room for compromise in these events, but ultimately you can't really change an entry halfway through a contest...

If you take a look at these playlists, the vast majority (in fact, probably all of your entries) would not have been affected :P It's alright, we'll post a thread which updates these lists/charts for everyone so you don't have to do too much legwork.

Well, this new rule does stop me from sending a track to the next contest because it will probably get into the charts. :P That would have been my first attempt at going 'cheap', but I think this new rule could be good for the contest.

So yeah, I approve. :P

I have no idea what 10" release is and how it is different from the ordinary so don't be harsh :P

It means on vinyl record, 10" is the size (inches), smaller than an old vinyl single but bigger than a normal vinyl LP (12").

Anyway, we're not proposing a blanket ban on the release list, which we could have done. We're just trying to make sure that this contest remains a fun place to discover new music...

I think Chis, people's bigger issue is that noone actually CHECKS these playlists, especially MTV and not only don't like being dictated what they can and cant enter, but might not know what kind of tracks are playlisted here etc.

As I've said, we shall update the thread listing the playlists weekly ;o
