I agree with most of this, apart from maybe the MTV Hits playlist thing (who even watches this channel/follows this playlist?) I didn't even know it was available to see!

I'm all for making the contest more original and it will be interesting to see if any of these things happen

1) there is a mass pullout as some countries struggle to find entries

2) the quality of the contest goes down drastically

3) we finally bring the spark back to BJSC!

Oh thank God. I'm not sure any of my entries would've fallen foul to the rules. Possibly 'Green Light'?

The problem is it won't stop ineveitible winners. AFAIK 'The Girl & The Robot', 'Silly Boy', 'Under the Sheets' and 'Hollywood' would all still have been allowed... I know 'Hollywood' is R1 playlisted now, but was it before the contest started? It may have been about four days before...

Talk about missing the top 10 with Miss Li, if these rules were installed before the current competition :drama:

I totally agree with the rules, as I always like to try something new and experimenting, that was the whole idea with Miss Li

It's gone like that: C-list then B-list and finally A-list ( ) so Hollywood wouldn't have been allowed in.

edit_ to be precise it's entered the playlist on 16/12 :o

Indeed quite early isn't it :o

I expect in these cases the mods will wade in to halt the inevitable winners from being sent

you can hardly ban internet hype but if it's obvious that everyone's already heard it and somebody's sending a song just to get a good result, I guess they will try to stop it

There is an appeals clause.

If your entry is playlisted on Radio1/MTV and it's come from nowhere and is very very unexpected you can appeal to the mods to allow your entry to stand

But we shouldn't HAVE to appeal though. Doesn't that take away the freedom of us choosing our entries? I can see LOADS of countries pulling out tbh and then you will be forced to remove this list to get interest back.

Just keep it as it is. Although I think some of these could stick (Like iTunes Top 40/UK Chart Top 40/BBH100 Top 5) but other than that I think it's a bit extreme... Especially from the likes of Biffy Clyro for example; they would go nowhere near the Top 10 in the final and probably end up bottom 10, yeah they'd probably qualify, but even then they'd have to be in the right semi. But they're ALWAYS A-Listed on Radio 1...

As the first post says, the mods reserve the right to introduce a ban list on a per contest basis to scoop up the likes of TG&TR.

Biff Clyro are $h!te tho tbh, so no real loss there. The appeal clause is for the SF/Final weeks. Like when Mini Viva randomly took off and became huge during the Finals week, it would be covered by such a clause.

The DSQ part is there to discourage the use of that bloody release schedule. You can mine it to your hearts content but risk being DSQ'd in the process. It's all about encouraging more inspired entries without a blanket ban on the release schedule and a huge month ban list. It also adds an element of risk into mining the release schedule. If quite a few people get DSQ'd in the first few months, the number of people mining the release schedule should fall and then we could look into reducing the number of disqualifying factors.

It's a very dynamic thing, we will look into it during and after XXIV to see if any tweeks need to be made. As always it's an iterative process, we welcome all feedback with open arms, especially constructive criticism. [bitching and moaning isn't helpful - not aimed at anyone in particular fyi]

We are also open to suggestions for alterations to this rule and the rest of the rules. If you have a suggestion you'd like to make for changes to an existing rule or proposals for a new one, please feel free to PM one of the mod team or post it in the Rules thread. ^_^

Was The Girl and the Robot even that cheap? :/ Hell, I wouldn't have identified it as being cheap in the first place.

The MTV Hits one isn't because people watch it, but more because it's a REALLY good barometer of what's uninspired :P

Speak for yourself here plz.

I'm not sure if I like the rules. If I can't find an entry for the 24th contest then I'll pull out for the first time. :o

To my knowledge the only one of your recent entries that would've been affected would've been Glee? I personally disagreed with the Billboard clause but the others overruled me :heehee:

Obvious winner etc.

Just like Silly Boys.

probs should have included IMO for the pedantic out there -_-

I think it's that I don't agree with most... if the entry decision making has been made then that particular song does "take-off" it's not their fault, so they should be able to keep it as it is. ESPECIALLY during the finals. If it made the finals, it's because people obviously voted for that particular song, not the one they'll be changing too. (None of this is meant to sound rude btw...)

This contest used to be so fun. Until people let it bother them about what was being entered about whether it was cheap or not but now we are practically on the edge of other people choosing our entries for us. It's been said many times before, if a non-cheap song IS good enough, it WILL win.

Like I said please don't take this offensively or anything coz it really isn't meant to sound as rude as it'll probably come across. But I dunno... just something isn't adding up for me. But I'm willing to see how it goes during this next contest (as I'm interested as to how some countries will fair). Hope this makes sense. ^_^

People won't be made to change their entries. If it's during confirmation they get one free pass from the mods to change it if it does take off, if it's very early in the the SF [within the first couple of votes] it'll be at the discretion of the host but there is no reason why it can't quickly be altered then.

If the entry is DSQ'd then thats it. Hence the element of risk, you can chose to enter it if you want but run the risk of being disqualified and losing all the points you could have gained.

As Tyron has given examples of, not many entries have fallen foul to it. Within the last 10 contests 2 of mine would. Back To The Start falls under the extension to the AF and Riverside to the DSQ rules.

Don't worry, we won't take it offensively or anythin. You are more than entitled to your opinion.

I'm just looking back to see if any of my entries would have been 'illegal' under these rules...Love Song and Believe Again both would have been I think as the former was in the US top 5 when I sent it and the latter was from Delta's current era and she has an AF here...my other 21 entries would have been fine though
What about randomly leaked tracks that doesn't make ANY album of an AF Artist? For example when I sent Rihanna 'Hatin' On The Club', it didn't make ANY of her albums, but she has an AF... would that have been considered as a B-Side and be let off?

Nothing pedantic here at all, you stated it like it's a rule or a law that everybody knows and agrees with and it might have been a little offending to the fans of a certain band (i.e. myself). [/ladysovdrama]
