We apologise if you feel that you have been a victim of abuse by a member of staff from this site, but you do have to understand that you have also been dishing out verbal abuse. I do know that you say that you haven't, but i have read through this thread as have many other members of staff and there is overwhelming evidence which suggests that you have. Please, just go and cool down. Come back to the forum in a calmer state of mind. I'm sure you'll find that this is a fantastic site, outside of Chart Chat there are many opportunities for you to discover new music and discuss your favourite artists.

In all fairness to them, they have only been giving as good as they get. I say this as an unbias party with no agenda at all. [i moderate the Sugababes AF, Lily Allen AF, BJSC and Reality TV. No connections to chart chat] This forum is a fantastic site, if you haven't already had a chance to explore the rest of it, please do. You've missed the point Rich. My point is, if I had a relative in Haiti right now what would I care about? An awful, tacky single (with or without a choir and a key change, like that's really important right now) making money for them and helping them to rebuild their lives, or what's #1? I honestly don't give a hoot about the chart, about what makes good music, about Cowell's ego... all of that is of absolutely no concern to anybody right now - or it shouldn't be.

 

Simon was asked to record a single by Gordon Brown, what's he going to do, say no? I think people need to put things into perspective. This is one of the few times that musical snobbery and petty chart battles have no place in this forum.

 

I completely disagree.

 

Take the example of David Bowie (my musical hero) after he did that dodgy cover of the Motown classic "Dancing In The Street" for Band/Live Aid in 1985 he announced that he would never do another Charity single, which he kept his word on. Because he saw the way certain acts gained the benefit on profile and record sales after appearing at Live Aid and disapproved of it. He famously (amongst Bowie fans) had a fall out out with Freddie Mercury & Queen because he felt they should of donated royalties from the sales boost that they made from Live Aid to the charity but they did not.

 

However, it is very well known within media/music circles that David Bowie has donated significant sums to numerous charity events instead of pollute the airwaves on another charity record.

 

That is yet another reason to respect his class/greatness/genius.

 

Then take the example of Lady GaGa who announced that she would donate $250,000 to the Haitian disaster fund = another class act.

 

Or the example of Radiohead, who are doing a gig in LA on 24th January with an auction going on at the moment to get tickets for the event; then for those unable to attend the live performance will be available to buy legally on downloads = all the money raised is going to the disaster fund = another class act.

 

Please note none of those acts went hand in hand with the fukkin Scum newspaper (as a Liverpool FC supporter I will forever hate that rag that I would not even wipe my ass with) to gain maximum publicity in the UK ensuring more than a fair show of his own acts appear on the record and at the same time destroy a once classic pop song. Then cynically delay the release to ensure JedWard get a one week stab at UK#1.

I'm a member of the biggest worldwide The Beatles fanclub website and in their year end poll one question that is asked (which shows the mature humour of Beatles fans) is "If Mark Chapman (the nutjob who murdered John Lennon) was allowed out of prison to kill someone who would it be?

 

In previous years the winners have included Osama Bin Laden & George W Bush..... but this years winner was the very deserving Simon Cowell.

 

If Beatles fans who by the very nature are followers of the most successful musical selling act of all time as well as the most critically acclaimed act of all time can come to that conclusion about Simon Cowell, then quite frankly that really should tell you something.
