Saying that, there's a fair few I like on here.

03. West End Featuring Sybil - The Love I Lost Sybil was Watermans last success before the rancid Steps, some years later. Nothing special, but I liked this and still do.

07. USURA - Open Your Mind Great, great dance track that has aged pretty well too.

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony Another fine track.

09. Arrested Development - Mr Wendal/Revolution It's Paul Oakenfold's version I like, I found the original plain irritating!

10. Take That - Could It Be Magic Can't abide them usually, but I think this is alright.

12. East 17 - Deep Probably their best single.

18. The Shamen - Phorever People Ah, great choon! Mainstream dance was good in these days!

24. Rapination And Kym Mazelle - Love Me The Right Way Great bit of chunky Hi-NRG house!

31. Stereo MC's - Step It Up Huge for about a year and then...

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space/Ruff In The Jungle Bizness Had this on tape!

36. - The Time Frequency - New Emotion (EP) Oooooh CHEDDAR!!!

37. Martine Girault - Revival {1993} Sublime track that I don't think reached any higher. Link below for you all to enjoy. Sublime!

youre telling me! pretty awful chart really.. however i like

07. USURA - Open Your Mind ...... one of my first dance track favs..

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony ...abit too soppy really

11. Duran Duran - Ordinary World .... splendid comeback single :)

12. East 17 - Deep ........ surprisingly i quite like this

14. Lulu - Independence .... arguably her best track!

18. The Shamen - Phorever People .... poor really

31. Stereo MC's - Step It Up .... ok

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space :) great track!

07. USURA - Open Your Mind Great, great dance track that has aged pretty well too.

gotta fully agree, it would still sound contemporary today and is infinately better then most modern dance chart tracks.

01. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You - I liked this at the time, although in retrospect it was VERY overwrought

02. Snap! Featuring Niki Harris - Exterminate! - Quite liked this, different direction for them

03. West End Featuring Sybil - The Love I Lost - OK enough dance lite track

04. 2 Unlimited - No Limit - Still awful, they had better

05. Sister Sledge - We Are Family {1993} - not a fan really

06. Faith No More - I'm Easy/Be Aggressive - nothing special about this cover for me

07. USURA - Open Your Mind - Quite liked this one, though I had forgotten all about it until just now

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony - This was my favourite track at the time, the album was pretty decent too

09. Arrested Development - Mr Wendal/Revolution - string of good singles from this lot

10. Take That - Could It Be Magic - Awful, they were so bad in the 90s. Who'd have thought they'd come back with such comparatively great singles in the 00s.

Best of the rest:

11. Duran Duran - Ordinary World

15. The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary {1993}

16. Peter Gabriel - Steam

18. The Shamen - Phorever People

31. Stereo MC's - Step It Up

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space/Ruff In The Jungle Bizness

35. D:Ream - Things Can Only Get Better

My opinion of Whitney Houston 'I Will Always Love You' is the same as Dandy*. Bare in mind I had just turned 12 years old and my mum and older brother both bought The Bodyguard OST on cd so I used to listen to it quite a lot at the time. :drama:

Best of the rest:

03. West End Featuring Sybil - The Love I Lost

04. 2 Unlimited - No Limit

07. USURA - Open Your Mind

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony

09. Arrested Development - Mr Wendal

11. Duran Duran - Ordinary World <--- brilliant track

15. The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary {1993} <--- I like this much more now than I did when I was young (musical tastes have developed over the years...a bit!!! )

16. Peter Gabriel - Steam

18. The Shamen - Phorever People

21. Paul McCartney - Hope Of Deliverance

24. Rapination And Kym Mazelle - Love Me The Right Way

25. SOUL SYSTEM - It's Gonna Be A Lovely Day (was on The Bodyguard OST, not an inspired cover)

27. Charles And Eddie - Would I Lie To You?

31. Stereo MC's - Step It Up

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space

35. D:Ream - Things Can Only Get Better (to be no. 1 in twelve months time!!! :drama: To become the official New Labour anthem in 4 years time... :puke: )

39. Lisa Stansfield - Someday (I'm Coming Back) (another The Bodyguard OST track)

Can only comment on the ones I remember. The 90's were a bit of a blur to me though.

01. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You - blur or not - I distinctly remember hating this (although I love the Dolly version.)

05. Sister Sledge - We Are Family {1993} - Yuk

10. Take That - Could It Be Magic - Yuk - if they'd have come back as bad as this this time ... I wouldn't be a fan now

11. Duran Duran - Ordinary World - Yuk

27. Charles And Eddie - Would I Lie To You? - I loved this - heard it the other day ... and I still love it

28. Michael Jackson - Heal The World - Beyond Yuk

Norma

My thoughts, comments of the Top 10:

01. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You - I don't like Whitney Houston, but I really liked this version of the over maudlin (the speaking bit on the original makes me want puke) Dolly Parton original.

02. Snap! Featuring Niki Harris - Exterminate! - Probably my favourite ever Snap! track.

03. West End Featuring Sybil - The Love I Lost - By Pete Waterman (low) standards one of his most listenable singles.

04. 2 Unlimited - No Limit - Vile :puke2:

05. Sister Sledge - We Are Family {1993} - ghasly remake of 1979 classic.

06. Faith No More - I'm Easy/Be Aggressive - pointless cover by an otherwise great underrated act.

07. USURA - Open Your Mind - good dance record, but as the sample is from Simple Minds "New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)"; I'd much rather listen to the original.

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony - Their last great track; and career best effort.

09. Arrested Development - Mr Wendal/Revolution - I always preferred them to the Fugees.

10. Take That - Could It Be Magic - They were not very good back then, compared to what they are now.

Of the remember I like:

11. Duran Duran - Ordinary World - In my opinion the greatest pop song of the 1990s bar none.

13. Bon Jovi - Bed Of Roses

16. Peter Gabriel - Steam

20. Dinosaur Jr - Start Choppin

21. Paul McCartney - Hope Of Deliverance

27. Charles And Eddie - Would I Lie To You?

30. Sugar - If I Can't Change Your Mind

31. Stereo MC's - Step It Up

32. The Frank And Walters - After All

33. The The - Dogs Of Lust

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space/Ruff In The Jungle Bizness

40. Little Angels - Womankind

01. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You - I don't like Whitney Houston, but I really liked this version of the over maudlin (the speaking bit on the original makes me want puke) Dolly Parton original.

you surprise me, yet again you are the only one i know (as in knowlegable adult) who prefers this cover to dolly partons original. same with the (appropriately named) wet wet wets version of 'love is all around'.

Ordinary World isn'tg half as good as Come Undone, the follow up single.

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony

09. Arrested Development - Mr Wendal/Revolution

11. Duran Duran - Ordinary World

18. The Shamen - Phorever People

31. Stereo MC's - Step It Up

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space/Ruff In The Jungle Bizness

I like these

I like...

07. USURA - Open Your Mind - never dawned on me that 'Open Your Mind' pretty much related to sampling Simple Minds...clever, clever. Also had a strange video with morphing pictures of Margaret Thatcher.

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony - think this was their last single, definitely their last big hit. Lots of naked models in the video including a younger Tess Daly if I recall.

09. Arrested Development - Mr Wendal/Revolution - what a short-lived phenomenon they were...not quite in the league of their Sly Stone cover but enjoyable.

15. The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary {1993} - re-released due to being used in a Lucozade advert. Still sounded very fresh though.

16. Peter Gabriel - Steam - didn't really like this, but I could respect his attempt to recreate the success of Sledgehammer in both the song and the video.

20. Dinosaur Jr - Start Choppin - J Mascis and co. during their classic era.

22. Naughty By Nature - Hip Hop Hooray - enjoyable hip hop from the pre-gangsta era

23. Leila K - Open Sesame - Following up her 1989 hit 'Got to Get' with rapid-fire rap - Lady Sovereign could learn a thing or two.

27. Charles And Eddie - Would I Lie To You? - Oh yeah! I hated this when it came out but now I see the comedic charm in it. RIP whichever one of them passed on.

29. Apache Indian - Arranged Marriage - loved this - one of many attempts by bhangra artists to infiltrate the pop charts, nowhere near as successful as Panjabi MC.

30. Sugar - If I Can't Change Your Mind - all-time classic indie tune from one of the greatest albums of 1992 in 'Copper Blue'. Absolutely loved Sugar at this point.

31. Stereo MC's - Step It Up - their signature tune in many ways

32. The Frank And Walters - After All - The Franks' biggest hit by miles which saw them at the top of their popularity and almost got them into the top 10. Perhaps a bit corny and hippy-dippy for the average indie fan but I loved 'em. Still going today you know!

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space/Ruff In The Jungle Bizness - Strangely this is more popular in 2010 than it ever was back then. A masterstroke.

35. D:Ream - Things Can Only Get Better - First time round, I really liked it in 1993, less when it hit number one on re-release and much much less when Blair & co hi-jacked it in 1997

Not a vintage year maybe, but I don't like any of the Top 40 now, yet I like 15 from this one...I wouldn't complain!

It was week before I was born, I know only few tracks from this chart. My favourites are:

04. 2 Unlimited - No Limit

05. Sister Sledge - We Are Family {1993}

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony

11. Duran Duran - Ordinary World

27. Charles And Eddie - Would I Lie To You?

28. Michael Jackson - Heal The World

31. Stereo MC's - Step It Up

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space/Ruff In The Jungle Bizness

Ordinary World isn'tg half as good as Come Undone, the follow up single.

Come Undone is my favourite Duran single ever.

Have you heard Out Of My Mind? If not, I think you may like it.

This is actually a fascinating time for the charts and a real change of eras captured here. In pop you've got Take That with one of their first really big hits, by the end of the year they'd be absolute superstars. And dance is a mixture between the very end of the breakbeat rave that dominated 1991-2 (what an amazing classic here with 'Out of Space' - probably my favourite track of that genre of all time) and into the Eurodance that was everywhere from 1993-5. Snap and 2 Unlimited are both in the top 5 (No Limit went #1 soon after), and by the end of the year they'd been joined by Cappella, Culture Beat, Haddaway, and many more!

My faves:

02. Snap! Featuring Niki Harris - Exterminate!

03. West End Featuring Sybil - The Love I Lost

04. 2 Unlimited - No Limit

07. USURA - Open Your Mind

08. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony

10. Take That - Could It Be Magic (guilty pleasure)

11. Duran Duran - Ordinary World [

18. The Shamen - Phorever People

27. Charles And Eddie - Would I Lie To You?

34. The Prodigy - Out Of Space/Ruff In The Jungle Bizness

35. D:Ream - Things Can Only Get Better (this of course went #1 a year later)

Yes, I'm a massive 90s dance fan!

Thanks to ScottyEm for posting the video for Revival by Martine Girault. I'd totally forgotten about that track and it's years since I last heard it. Excellent song, and yes it is sublime.

It looks like the label were trying their best to make it a hit, it was released three times in the 90s, reaching #53 in 1992, #37 in 1993 and #61 in 1997. Sometimes you just can't make a hit happen but this one deserved to be a big hit.

thats an interesting take of the era billy, its good to have this perspective as most here either dont like the era (like me), like the indie scene, or watermans remnants.. :)

My take on the era is I just had to grab at anything I liked. Music improved later on in the year but early 1993 was just a mess of styles, very few of which actually had mass appeal. Whitney and then Take That dragged singles sales back up from their ultimate low in mid to late 1992 but the charts lacked direction back then, apart from a run of reggae / ragga singles making it big. Music definitely improved later on in 1993 when the euro dance music scene took off.
