There is a version of Alors on Dance I received from the promo company that features Erik Hassle singing the verses in English, with Stromae singing the chorus. There's a chance that they might promote this as the version as a 'radio friendly' English version.

What the... How random.

I suppose in the eyes of Island it would kill two birds with one stone, it would help to promote a 'difficult' record by having a nice English version for the xenophobic British audience (the same one that demanded an English version of 99 Luftballoons), and it will give Erik Hassle a 2nd bite of the pop cherry after Heartless needlessly flopped.

Alors on danse is being played on Radio 1 again! :)

A small portion of the song got played earlier in the week, because they reviewed the review show. They also played part of the discussion about Alors on danse (the bit where everybody was laughing about the name of the album, and the bit about the bagpipes and the nose whistle thingy).

This Erik Hassle thing is interesting. If it gets big, I hope the instrumental stays the same.

The Erik Hassle version;

I'm a big fan of Erik but I hate the idea of this being translated into English for the UK release. Still like Brett-Butler said, same record label and it would be cross promotion for the pair of them. I'm absolutely certain that the original would/will be huge if it's ever promoted properly here. In fact, even if this Hassle version is the lead version for the UK market, I still think people will buy the original on iTunes if it remains available, possibly instead of, or at least as well as.

The Erik Hassle version isn't too bad. I'd obviously prefer the original version, but I think it's quite faithful to the original, in terms of lyrics and instrumental.

And I love the "We dance the pain away" bit near the end.

Alors on danse is up to #210 on iTunes (new peak). It's climbed about 50 places in the past hour, since being played on Radio 1.

LOVE the Hassle version  It's the most respectful of any english version I've heard yet, and I'm glad they haven't just gone with an instrumental :D
Maybe it's because I'm used to listening to the original Stromae version but I think the Erik Hassle version sounds a bit out of place.
While Erik Hassle does a good job on it, the chorus and the verses don't fit together now, their two voices are too distinctive in a way. Maybe that's because I'm too used to Stromae's verses.
Good, but it's below some ancient songs, it really can't have sold that many. I wonder if it's even top 200 yet?

It's not top 200 yet. Gramophonedzie is #24 in the Dance Chart, and #165 in the officials. That's the most information I can find, but that would suggest that Stromae is #300-#400 range at the moment in the official chart (if they published it that far down).

Why would they get some nobody from some random indie band to review the track? Of course he doesn't like it. Get me on their playlist review, and I'd give the Foals a big fat 0% anyway.

^ I hate how members of indie bands have to pretentious and even if an indie song is rubbish they will say it is great... annoys me endlessly...

FTR i love both Stromae and Foals. and Foals are hardly 'some random indie band' LOL. anyway i hope this becomes massive, i really wouldn't want that Yolanda track being the biggest dance track of the summer :/

THIS.

'Random indie band'

As far as I'm aware, they've had 2 singles released, and neither were big hits. So yeah, random band. Hardly Arctic Monkeys or Kaiser Chiefs giving reviews. It's just that they have a song on the R1 playlist so for some reason they're on the reviewing panel - why not a pop or a dance act then? It's bad enough most R1 dj's bum any indie act around *cough* Fearne.

Anyway, some people are way too optimistic about this imo.

Possibly, but at least Radio 1 are letting us know it exists. And every time it gets a play it goes top 300 on iTunes. If it gets playlisted somewhere, and/or it goes mental in the clubs, it can still be a big hit.
I made my local gay bar play it on Wednesday night ! Was a different version, but me and my friend still went wild ^_^

Awesome! Which version was it? Was it like a remix, or a cover version?

Also, Alors on danse has fell out of the top 300 on iTunes. :( It'll climb back in if it gets played on Radio 1 today though, but I don't think they'll ever playlist it now.

There's no hope in commercial radio stations playing it either, because it's in French, and nobody knows who Stromae is.

How do you find out the top 300? i can only see the top 100 =[ i dont like the Erik version... at all
