February 4, 201015 yr So, do I now have to stick a fiver in two boxes...one marked "pay here if you support aid to Haiti but don't want an ego-serving piece of plastic with godawful music on it UK" and one marked "pay here if you support aid to Haiti but don't want an ego-serving piece of plastic with godawful music on it USA"? A TV campaign with a donations hotline number would be a lot more subtle. I don't know why people are laying plaudit after plaudit on this, comparing it as 'having a better A list' than the British one. It isn't a competition! They're both awful ... but if one thing ... at least (and I can't stand the bloke) Cowell has kept a fairly humble profile in this one ... or at least hasn't spouted his mouth off like Quincy Jones in his idiotic quote on this year's We Are The World being released 25 years after the original. 'It's the 25th anniversary and it's perfect timing. It's not an accident, man. That's God. It will be We Are the World for Haiti.' Perfect timing and how bloody thoughtful of Haiti to celebrate the 25th anniversary of an awful song by having an earthquake! You are absolutely spot-on. The answer is to avoid both and just pledge or stick a tenner in a box. Norma
February 13, 201015 yr Video Here is the video for everyone. PMSL at Michael Jackson being shoehorned in. It's godawful
February 13, 201015 yr Hahaha! Why is Vince Vaughn in the video? I think he has a film out soon (well there's one in post-production now anyway). Jeff Bridges (the one who looks like Seasick Steve's slightly younger brother) also has a film out soon ... in fact one of them is Tron 2! Disasters eh? Can't beat them for sheer marketing opportunities. I'm 51 and have seen too many of these things so I've earned my right to be cynical. Norma

Norma Jeff Bridges & Vince Vaughn were invited to the recording by Wyclef Jean because they had both significantly helped out with Wyclef Jean's Yéle Haiti Foundation that he set up in 2005 prior to this disaster and had both spent time in Haiti with the foundation prior to the earthquake. Therefore, their contribution is pretty damn sincere in my eyes, but I guess you think otherwise.
February 13, 201015 yr OMG, just terrible. Seriously, I know its for a good cause but its awful to the core, even worse than Everybody Hurts. Autotune and rapping like that on a MJ song for Haiti? Really? Wow. Wyclef sounds like he's being strangled. Also, thought Gaga was meant to be in it? Glad shes not though as it would ruin her forever, haha. I can't get over how bad that was.
February 13, 201015 yr LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! I agree with Lukuzz too. JHud and P!nk OWN it! I wish I could say the same about Keri :snif: Ah well at least she's in the video on the chorus :magic:

The song is still crap though ... as it was 25 years ago. In fact ... I do remember at the time of its original release this song itself got lambasted (for being awful) and in addition a lot saw it as 'jumping on the bandwagon' after the efforts of Geldof and Ure. Funny how things change and all of a sudden its one of the best pieces of music in history .. right up there with Mozart and Beethoven. I guess its just the involvement of Simon Cowell and his 'B' list celebrity chums being involved. Maybe we should just leave it to Hollywood and the Americans to do this sort of thing in future ... they are of course much more sincere. Norma Edited February 13, 201015 yr by Norma_Snockers
February 13, 201015 yr Where are Beyonce, GaGa, Britney, Christina, Rihanna? Yano like MASSIVE stars since the last one? Also, Justin Bieber = opening line? :\ Ok then... It's OK - I don't usually like Michael Jackson's preachy songs and this is no different.
February 13, 201015 yr Love it, much better than EH, also Nicole seems to get loads of air time.Seems to get loads of air time, yet hardly any lines LOL...
February 13, 201015 yr Seems to get loads of air time, yet hardly any lines LOL... You can hear her quite a lot but usually backing someone else and ad-libs
February 13, 201015 yr I quite like it, i think i prefer it to the yawnfest that is EH. Wyclef though, really? He ruins it about 3 times during the song
February 13, 201015 yr J-Hud, P!nk and Celine make this song for me. Shame it has Lil Wayne and Justin Bieber on it though.
February 13, 201015 yr Wyclef Jean ruined it for me. I was quite enjoying it until he came in. I hated his bits, Enrique Iglesius' bit and the rapping section. The rest was alright. I still prefer Everybody Hurts.
February 13, 201015 yr This is so much better than "Everybody Hurts", if only because I'm not half asleep by the end of it. P!nk and Jennifer Hudson definitely make it and I actually like the rap bit and Kanye/Will.i.am towards the end. Down sides: Justin Bieber getting the opening line. Realising Keri Hilson wasn't going to get her own bit. Wyclef's emotional but ultimately annoying adlibs/singing. But why am I less cynical of this one? It has a big variety of artists and was released everywhere shortly after it's premier - on a day that shows they aren't in it for the chart positions.
