Posted February 22, 201015 yr Observer chief political correspondent, Andrew Rawnsley, has alleged in his latest book that Gordon Brown has been warned by the head of the Civil Service about his treatment of his staff. While the aptly named Christine Pratt, the head of an anti-bullying charity, claims that members of No10 staff called the bullying helpline. Quite how that equates to any supposed privacy policy is unclear, nor why these calls were brought to her attention in the first place. Is this political skulduggery, given that the Conservatives opinion poll lead is shrinking by the day, or the characteristics of a man who is ill equipped to lead the country?
February 22, 201015 yr tbh i dont know what to make of it.... i suspect there is political skullduggery, i dont think the truth will ever be known.. but even if its true, it hardly detracts from his ability to run the country, which i still rate above boy cameron who spouts enough hot air to fill 5 balloons.
February 22, 201015 yr Absolutely NONE of these c/unts are fit to run the country... Brown is bad-tempered, foul-mouthed 'Weegie git who has scant respect for the people who work for him, his economic policy has proven disastrous for UK as well with the Recession and all, Cameron is breath of hot air, a pompous, egotistical tw@t who would probably say just about anything to get himself elected, then he'll just turn into another Tony Blair or, worse yet, Maggie Thatcher.... Nick Clegg, the nowhere man who frankly I dont even have ANY kind of opinion on such is his total and utter anonymity... At least you actually KNEW who Charlie Kennedy actually was and what he stood for..... No, I cant say any of these pricks deserve to run the country tbh... Which is why I'm voting tactically and for a Hung Parliament.. I dont want ANY of these clowns to get a mandate to run the country, because frankly, none of them are worthy..... As for the allegations.. Frankly, I'm glad they came out. We've had "Lord Mandy" and the Home Secretary going on TV shows denying there's any kind of problem.. Well, clearly there IS a problem with bullying inside the Govt... Still, I'm not surprised, Nu Labor used strong-arm tactics and threats against their own backbench MPs over the Iraq vote, so I cant say I'm at all surprised that junior, low-level flunkies are getting abused..... These allegations are far from the only ones, Political Journalist Andrew Rawnsley has just written a book in which Cabinet and Backbench MPs, senior civil servants, etc (many of whom have actually gone on the record and been named..) past and present, detail the volcanic, potentially violent temperament of Mr Broon.... So, sorry, but with Rawnsley's book and now the allegations from the Bullying charity, that's way too much smoke for there to be no fire.... Broon is unfit to govern if he doesn't even have any decency or respect for those he actually works with....
February 22, 201015 yr He's not a weegie, he's far worse. He's from Kirkcaldy. He's an MP for Kirkcaldy, but his birthplace is actually Giffnock, Renfrew, in the Strathclyde Region, it has an 0141 STD code and its post code is G46... Broon is a West Coast Lowlander, and therefore a "Weegie".... :P ...As are denizens of Paisley, Motherwell, Partick and East Kilbride.... All of that lot are within spitting distance of Glasgow, so, they all get called "Weegies" round my neck of the woods.. And you call yourself a Scot.....
February 22, 201015 yr I don't think that this is really all that relevant. Shaking someone by the lapels? I find it fairly ironic that ANY newspaper could call that a dictatorship given that's par for the course at the majority of them and it seems that this is the most dramatic accusation on the table. Political skulduggery from a Conservative-patronised charity to try and distract from the issues, which the Conservatives are losing on with each and every day...is it too optimistic to think that Labour might actually get re-elected? Although heaven knows a minority government would be ideal - Labour would be forced out of their neoliberal compass by a period in opposition and people with fantastic ideas, such as Jon Cruddas, might actually get into power within the Labour structure. A minority government would wreck Cameron and show him to be the farce he is. And we might actually get some electoral reform with the Lib Dems strong-arming! Win win win...

Missing the point Tyron... It's clearly causing enough distress to individuals if they feel the need to phone a Bullying Chat line about it.... That and the fact that No 10 and the Nu Labor hierarchy is in complete and utter denial that a problem with Broon's temperament even exists.... Oh, and there's the small matter of the Anti-Bullying Charter that Broon himself signed up to... Which he is now guilty of breaking by all accounts..... The facts are that any other boss in any other sector would be getting an absolute bollocking about this if it were found that they were abusing their position.... We've just had a case of a woman who worked in the City successfully suing her bosses for bullying and sexual harrassment.... So, if the Fat Cats in the City can be held legally accontable for their bullying tendencies, then why the fukk should the PM be immune... He's supposed to set an example to the rest of us for fukk's sake..... <_<
February 22, 201015 yr Political skulduggery from a Conservative-patronised charity to try and distract from the issues, That statement implies that the Tories are giving money to this charity... They're not... -_-

I know where he's the MP i kinda just assumed he was Kirk born as he didn't really sould like he had that west coast twang. I'm not a Scot, i'm English i just happen to have lived here for over 20years.
February 22, 201015 yr If he's actually hit people then obviously that's unacceptable. But I couldn't care less about his "rages". My view is that these government members who've called up this helpline (if they actually exist) should either grow a thicker skin or resign. If you've got one of the most important jobs in the country then you should expect to be lambasted if you screw up.
February 22, 201015 yr I agree with the latest opinions in the media that actually the charity had no right to betray the confidentiality and trust of the callers. Nor did it have the right to publicise them in such a way, it is a helpline and nothing more, the concerns should have been reported appropriately and investigated accordingly without any involvement from BBC reporters. I fortunately don't experience bullying in my workplace at all but, if I did, I would certainly be put off calling the national helpline now. You can't help but be suspicious of the motives too as, let's face it, the timing just seems too perfect that the story comes out just as Labour's popularity is beginning to turn in the polls.

The whole point of any helpline is that people should be able to phone it without the risk of their call becoming known. This Pratt woman should resign immediately.
February 22, 201015 yr This is a total non story for me Gordon Brown has an incredibly high pressure job running an economy, running a war and generally running the country so I am not exactly shocked that he does not spend his day whistling and singing "oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day"and dancing about the room, of course he is going to be snappy and short tempered, it goes with the territory of one of the most important jobs in the free world Those that are complaining about him at work should go work in a library or something they are far too sensitive for the job they hold at #10 I love any excuse to take a pop at Brown but this is not one of them, its a mountain being made out of a molehill

I mean, what if he gets p!ssed off at a diplomat or a visiting foreign dignitary or something...? Is he gonna just grab them by the lapels and shout at them like an idiot...? I would say the allegations of bullying culture AND Andrew Rawnsley's book is pretty much evidence of a pattern of behaviour here... If he cant keep his cool under pressure just in an everyday situation in No 10 with his junior staff, then how can we trust him to keep his cool in a REAL pressurised situation without going off on one....? Either way, he's not fit to govern, end of....
February 23, 201015 yr Absolutely right. The whole point of any helpline is that people should be able to phone it without the risk of their call becoming known. This Pratt woman should resign immediately. She's not actually named any individuals, so why...? I would say that if ANY employer shows the sort of denial of a bullying culture as No 10 has, then that employer should be 'named and shamed' tbh....
February 23, 201015 yr I dont think so... I mean, what if he gets p!ssed off at a diplomat or a visiting foreign dignitary or something...? Is he gonna just grab them by the lapels and shout at them like an idiot...? I find that a bit of a daft argument! I've known bosses who've been absolute bast*rds to staff but turn on the charm offensive when dealing with clients and visitors. Surely the diplomats and foreign dignitaries in this instance would be the equivalent. Besides ... from articles today ... this Christine Pratt has 'allegedly' been the subject of a harrassment case in 2003 in which she was accused of bullying. As Craig said ... if you're going to be in a high pressured job such as this ... then grow a thicker skin or go and work in a creche! I'd rather have Brown in charge with a little 'brusqueness' rather than a frigging moon-faced, lily-livered w*n**r like Cameron any day. It was touching to watch Sarah Brown today coming to her husband's defence. It is nice to see a politican's wife defending her husband for something work-related than defending them for 'extra marital affairs'. Norma Edited February 23, 201015 yr by Norma_Snockers

Norma So, basically what you're saying is, he kisses the arses of murdering scum like Hu Jintao, Robert Mugabe, Dubya and Vladimir Putin while at the same time abusing his poor-suffering staffers... Shurely Shome Mishtake..... Frankly, I'd rather he kicked the arses and showed a bit of brusqueness to Putin, Mugabe, Dubya, Jintao, etc.... THEY would actually deserve it.... Besides, there's a difference between having a bit of an attitude and taking no crap, and being abusive... I would say from all the evidence, there are several people, not just Broon, in No 10 who have crossed a line..... Whatever action Christine Pratt may have done in the past, I'd say by her actions now, she regrets them and has atoned for what she's done by recognising her shortcomings and now working to help others.... It's called "rehabilitation" dear....

But you've condemned him in your previous post should he 'lose his rag' with these people. By that reasoning - the bloke can't win. As for Ms Pratt ... I seriously doubt an attack of atonement. There's some political skullduggery going on here. Norma
February 23, 201015 yr But you've condemned him in your previous post should he 'lose his rag' with these people. By that reasoning - the bloke can't win. Well, I changed my mind and thought about it, when you made the point about mounting the "charm offensive"... If he's gonna lose his rag at someone, I'd rather it was with the right people who deserved it....
