I think honestly if you look at how may hits they have had- then the artists that most deserve it are Depeche Mode (43 top 40 hits, never higher than number 4), Billy Fury (231 weeks spent on the top 40, highest reached number 2), Sash! (5 number 2s, but no number 1s), Bon Jovi (20 top 10s) and Janet Jackson (17 top 10s), both artists highest peak was number 2

The reason the Saturdays havent reached number 1 yet is because they havent done anything that deserves it <_<

Talking about it in the iTunes thread, briefly, and Mary J Blige is surely due a number 1 single too? :(

Jedward :P

In all seriousness, Anastacia, Dido, Maroon 5, the Killers and Lemar all deserve a no.1.

Up?!

Britney without a doubt

She has already had one! Five of them infact. Do that many people not get what this topic is about?

Janet is my personal favourite, I'd love to see her having a no. 1 but it's not gonna happen anytime soon

R.E.M., Depeche Mode, Morrissey of course. Also Jarvis Cocker (Pulp didn't get any, did they)

Massive Attack, The White Stripes, Muse...

And Belle and Sebastian obviously :D

Im suprised Alicia never went #1 in the UK :o i guess i never looked at her UK career closely i would have thought Fallin', or No One would have done it.

Anastacia gets my vote though, how Left Outside Alone didnt go #1 is beyond me, talk about a comeback single! One Day In Your Life, Paid My Dues, I'm Outta Love, and Welcome To My Truth should have been #1's too, and so should Heavy On My Heart because of its meaning and what it was released for.

Muse, The Killers, Placebo, Avril Lavigne, Green Day, Alesha Dixon (solo)
It was ok, but it wasnt exactly groundbreaking

But is every song that reaches #1 ground breaking? The week 'Up' was released Leon Jackson charted above it, surely that says it all...

Isn't it mainly the fans that want a #1 for their artist? it's an ego boost for an artist sure, but I'm sure they'd rather sell albums, tour and have a career in music that lasts, than have a couple of #1's and then fade away and be dropped.

Alright, fair enough

Also I guess most number ones get a lot of publicity- The Sats havent been hugely hyped, so they've done quite well considering that

and most number 1s have something special that says 'number 1' about it- Obviously, there are exceptions some get there on their name and some because of other cicumstances

The Killers, Will.i.am(Solo) Bloc Party, The Zutons, and Natty

I meant the thread originally for acts who have had prosperous careers but haven't managed a #1 single. Bands like Green Day, Muse and Foo Fighters can fill stadia but haven't had a single reach higher than #3 on their own (yes, Green Day & U2's "The Saints Are Coming" reached #2 but I don't really count it).

not the one with westlife :)

Mariah also recorded Against All Odds solo (this is the version I have) but had to buy on import as the solo version wasn't released in the UK. I bought my copy from Germany.

The version with Westlife wasn't released in mainland Europe. (They obviously have more taste).

The solo version is miles better.

Has to be Little Boots - Miley Cyrus - Daughtry

Alicia.

Think the only song off current album now that has a realistic chance is her duet with Beyonce (Put it in a love song) so it sort-of won't count  ? Might have to be the lead single of her next album as someone already suggested.
