March 17, 201016 yr Author The XX will also get nominated methinks, and I wouldn't mind if they won. I'd rather if Delphic didn't get nominated as their album was very disappointing. I expect Ellie Goulding to also be nominated. What about Leona Lewis...Cheryl Cole...Alexandra Burke...JLS. :) Edited March 17, 201016 yr by tonyttt31
March 17, 201016 yr I can see and fear Marina doing a Little Boots I'm afraid. So far I would not be surprised to see the likes of Mumford & Sons, Four Tet, The xx, Gorillaz, These New Puritans, Erland & The Carnival, Laura Marling, Ellie Goulding & Plan B nominated though.
March 17, 201016 yr Author But Marina's album is much better than Little Boot's and Florence's and Ellie's and La Roux's and possibly even Bat for Lashes (there, I said it)
March 17, 201016 yr But Marina's album is much better than Little Boot's and Florence's and Ellie's and La Roux's and possibly even Bat for Lashes (there, I said it) I totally agree, but a lot of music critics find her pretentious, so I can see her missing out on getting a nomination to the vastly inferior and new Dido blandfest that is Ellie Goulding.
March 17, 201016 yr And last year's winner was.... one that flew over my head, and has never had a hit single
March 18, 201016 yr Gorillaz would be a worthy Mercury nominee, but Damien Albarn won't be entering it for contention for the Mercury Prize (remember he withdrew his nomination the last time the Gorillaz were up for it). I'd love to see Wild Beasts nominated, apart from that there's no-one that really stands out as Mercury nominees.

This is such a matter of appreciation though, I would rank them the other way round, Bat for Lashes, La Roux and Little Boots are IMO more interesting and talented than Marina or Ellie. I have some hopes HURTS will get nominated somehow, they could save this year's bunch of new talents. Oh, and Dido's third album is a brillant piece of perfection.

I love Bat for Lashes and put her in a different league to the rest - a league that Marina might sneak into soon. La Roux and Little Boots haven't produced anything as amazing as Numb from Marina. It's a truly remarkable piece of music.
March 18, 201016 yr Author And last year's winner was.... one that flew over my head, and has never had a hit single what has hit singles got to do with it?
March 18, 201016 yr Last years result was a cockup so they will want to restore some cred this year. I'm guessing These New Puritans may do it.
March 18, 201016 yr Gorillaz is my album of the year so far... and would probably stand a great chance if Damon didn't withdraw it.
March 19, 201016 yr And last year's winner was.... one that flew over my head, and has never had a hit singleSpeech Debelle :P I can actually see Mumford and Sons (deservedly) getting the award this year. They're on a roll recently and they're gradually becoming bigger and bigger. Their album is surprisingly good! But I wouldn't rule out someone I didn't know getting the award HAHA.
March 19, 201016 yr Speech Debelle's album had one phenomonal track [better Days] surrounded by a pile of rubbish, but last year's nominess weren't that strong imo.
March 19, 201016 yr Speech Debelle's album had one phenomonal track [better Days] surrounded by a pile of rubbish, but last year's nominess weren't that strong imo. The Horrors were robbed last year. I think once they announced Speech as the winner last year they were regretting it. It's funny as I was watching the TV coverage and the presenters were like 'Huh - that album won' - they spent the entire preview section saying the album did not even deserve to be on the list. This year will hopefully be between These New Puritans, Four Tet, Hot Chip or Laura Marling - I'm sure the XX will be nominated too -
March 19, 201016 yr Author Hot Chip still infuriate me. They always have a few good tracks amongst a load of dull bollox on their albums.
