March 21, 201015 yr A notable lack of Ashton, Angelicland and Numayania on that, in fact I don't think there were any Angelicland songs on mine either :drama: I'm trying to think what their most 'definitive' entry is...Box 'n' Locks, Paris Is Burning or Get A Reaction I guess? I'm not sure that they're as well remembered as the ones you've featured though :( Yeah, I thought I should find a place for them, after I compiled it and realised they were missing, but I found it hard to cut anything else out. I would have added "The Spell" for Numayania over the Dolly Rockers winner, but kept Lorikeet because "Boys Will Be Boys" is more of a BJSC song. The only other song I could justify having was "Stay The Night", but that quickly went from second place to awful spin-off result, showing it's not particularly fondly remembered. I struggled to pick an Ashton entry. "I Don't Know"/"The Fear" would have been an obvious one to show the brief Lily domination (since I didn't include her winner) but I think I've got enough VI as it is. The winner, the 'contest redefining' song and the one that we had a mini war over and all thought would win. Other contenders were Alex Roots, but I couldn't remember how it went, and "Butterflies". I suppose I could have added that to represent the unbanning of NF entries, but I don't know who to remove? Again, picking a definitive entry for Angelicland was tough. I do rather love a few of their entries but, like you say, they've never really had a stand out result. Or one that stands the test of time, at least. I feel I should perhaps cut out "Into The Nightlife" and "Dream On" for "Butterflies" and..."Get A Reaction" (?) but I see one as a song that shows how BJSC sometimes shows how a brilliant result can be achieved by someone you'd expect to be past it/not very BJSC and the other is (imo) the rightful winner of XI. (it grew on so many people afterwards and I mean going from 0 points to possible 12s...)
March 21, 201015 yr The lack of Linda Kiraly is quite frankly disgusting -_- I definitely wanted to include that one but I tried to limit contests to a maximum of three songs each and, what can I say, the top 3 for BJSC VII was huge. Two future mega #1s (right before they were huge) and probably one of the definitive classics from the earlier contests.

(it grew on so many people afterwards and I mean going from 0 points to possible 12s...) I guess that could be said about most entries though, scoreboards merely represent a snapshot in time and obviously songs continue to grow on people after the contest. I didn't give anything to Just Dance in VII but it certainly grew on me substantially, not to the detriment of I Kissed A Girl though, which I still prefer - but retrospectively I should have given it 5 or 6 points. As for XI, I considered Lonely (Are You Coming Home?) and Boys & Girls but one I think has lost its BJSC classic status a bit, and the other didn't seem quite such a classic once Pixie was unveiled as some teeny bopper and a lot of people who had voted for it in XI started to hate her :drama: Dream On I briefly considered for my tracklist, but I didn't want to overload the tracklist with Robyn - for the same reasoning I should have probably put Little Boots and The Veronicas on my tracklist somewhere but just run out of space :drama: However, I did manage to squeeze in I Like - for somebody who's featured a lot in the contest, it was impressive that you took Keri to the top five for the first time, and I think it deserved to be represented on the compilation - because it crossed over to non-Keri fans as well.
March 21, 201015 yr Woo for Natalia Kills <3. I know it came 2nd and all that but I didn't think it was that well remembered!

Let's be honest, I'm a pariah. Everyone votes for me and then feels dirty for it... :kink: Will do this soon :)

Yeah I wasn't sure about Suzie, but I figured her recent success for Tyron certified her as a proper BJSC artist. I totally didn't see your point about Robyn overload though, I even tried to keep it to one song per artist! Don't know whether to replace it with "Butterflies" or "I Like". I hadn't considered adding a Keri track. She's been sent a lot, but she's been more of a hit and miss artist, unlike the Veronicas and Little Boots so she doesn't seem as much of a 'big gun'. I was glad it had such crossover appeal though. Let's be honest, I'm a pariah. Everyone votes for me and then feels dirty for it... :kink: Will do this soon :) It seems more like that with your best results. :( The results of "The Spell" and "Stay The Night" held up really badly in the spin-offs, considering they were the two most recent contests included. I do rather love a bit of "Mercy Mercy" though.

I see what you mean, Dream On definitely would have been worthy for the tracklist (I say this as one of the few people who did heavily support it at the original time - 8 points ). But it was so packed anyway, I could have easily done a 3 discer with all of the tracks still being 'BJSC classics'. At least this way I could fit on some Boots and Veronicas - I probably would go for Meddle or Stuck On Repeat/This Love for those acts, I think Untouched would be a bit too obvious and I'm not sure how much of that doing well was just because of the hype/its impending release, whereas This Love was a genuine discovery for most and did incredibly well! Keri's impact on BJSC is hard to ignore - XXV will be her 8th (?) appearance. Energy and Knock You Down did incredibly well too but I Like feels 'more BJSC' somehow, probably because it's never going to do well in the UK :drama:

You'd obviously known it for a long time, so you fully appreciated it. I still think it should have won. :( Same, despite not being their best results, I think "Meddle" was a great introduction to her (though I didn't appreciate it at the time) while I kinda kicked off the obsession with "Stuck On Repeat". "This Love" also strikes me as the most well received Veronicas entry, despite not being their best result or first entry. I've actually lost count of the Keri entries, but I think those are her only three results worth writing home about. Aren't her others a last place and DNQs? Veronicas/Boots had a 100% hit record. (until Tyron sent Dead Disco) But yes, I'm not sure why people ever seemed to think "I Like" was going to do well here. Even if it does get a release, no video and no airplay means it'll only go top 1000 at best. I'm not sure it was ever meant to be more than a soft release, even if it goes ahead, Keri is too busy working on the next album.

I much preferred the mix you used to the one I'd already known for a year though which had some male backing/co-vocals on. Robyn doing it on her own was a lot more stunning in my opinion. So it gave it a new freshness, trust me I was long bored of the original version I knew and wouldn't have given that version any points. My 12 went to The Show but only by default because my favourite of the contest (Secrets) DNQ'd :( I think I Like could do well here with full promotion, but I guess it was big in Germany mainly because of the association of the film it was in. I can't imagine her being bothered to do full promotion for it here just to get a stop gap hit when, like you say, she's busy doing other things now.

I came across it when looking for a video on Youtube and didn't think it was as good either. I did like "The Show" a lot at the time, but it seems like a bit of an underwhelming winner looking back. Perhaps because it became a minor hit? (but so did "Dream On" so...) It probably could get her another top 20 hit, but I've always thought it'd only get a release in German speaking countries as it's just a soundtrack song. I'm not even sure about this 'UK radio edit' business now, wasn't it point out that it's basically a mash up of the original and a remix? Could always be fanmade. She's not exactly an artist who'd get much opportunity to promote over here. Maybe Radio 1, if they feel like supporting her? or a performance slot on the Alan Carr show?

Yep, that's it - he drowned Robyn out a bit, and I'm not sure that the male/female duo effect particularly suited the track as well as Robyn doing it solo. She sang in a slightly different key on your version to the original too, which again, suited the track more - plus the production was improved - added strings are always a bonus

March 26, 201015 yr i chose these because the song hasn't taken off yet even if the artist has, songs that were discovered and then became famous wouldnt really make a good CD for me Yeah, I was considering doing this as well. A version of songs that probably wouldn't have been discovered without BJSC, but that cuts out a lot of vital entries. It probably makes more sense though.

True, I think it's easy to forget how defining and inspired the likes of Release Me, Dolla and Just Dance were...Peter, Ben and Mikal can't possibly have known how huge they were going to be...Anything that smashes in the charts 6 months after its BJSC appearance is a massive achievement for the posters involved I reckon :o I know it's never going to happen (although I said the same about Release Me) but if Will You Remember Me Tomorrow ever became a smash here, I still can't imagine it not being on a compilation of 'the best' the contest has produced.
