Which household name MP's do you think might get chucked out this election. I remember Michael Portillo & David Mellor losing. So which ones might lose this year, possibly because of the expenses saga.

Maybe Jacqui Smith, Ruth Kelly or Hazel Blears, Glenda Jackson, possibly Alistair Darling or Jack Straw.

Hazel Blears? In Salford?

Hazel Blears? In Salford?

Why not, she is tainted by expenses scandal

I'm pretty certain this will be the first General Election where I'm at work the day of the results. For some reason I've normally had a week's holiday or booked off the Friday (which makes me a sad git). So I don't know how late I will stay up tomorrow night (who am I kidding)/the early hours of Friday morning.

What I don't understand is:

1. Why does Jacqui Smith have the nerve to try and defend her seat after her role in the expenses scandal?

2. Why did they think that sending Tony Blair up to Redditch would help?

This coming from a Labour voter

Hope she does lose tbh. I can see Andrew Landsley (sp?) losing his seat for the Tories in Cambridge with the amount of signs there are around there. I hope Patrick Hall (Labour) holds on here as I don't like the Conservative candidate has bombarded me with letters and after reading every single one of them I just like him less and less.

She also polled 57.6% of the vote in 2005. If any high-profile Labour figure loses a seat, it's not going to be her. Then again, it would be nice to share the shame of living in a Greater Manchester constituency with a Conservative MP, mine is currently the only one...

Just wow. Shepard Fairey will be thrilled with this one.

From what I hear, Jacqui Smith is almost certain to lose her seat. Ed Balls might well go as well, which would probably be the highest-profile scalp.

Lansley is defending South Cambridgeshire. Cambridge is a Lib Dem seat.

Sending Blair to Redditch is an interesting decision as it suggests that they think they have a chance of holding the seat. If they do, the Tories could be in for an even bigger disappointment than the polls suggest.

I predict Jacqui Smith, Ruth Kelly, Hazel Blears, Ed Balls and Oliver Letwin. Ed Balls is 50/50, but I'd be very happy to see him out.

I just threw up in my mouth a little. I'm just hoping the Mirror will steal the show with this one...

Oh my... that's even better than the "Eton Rifles" headline today... :w00t:

Btw, I thought Ruth Kelly announced ages ago that she wouldn't be standing in the next election? Or am I misremembering?

I have an exam at 9:15am so i'm gonna stay up to ensure my constituency haven't all suddenly had their brains removed and voted SNP. It shouldn't take long for the vote to be returned from Cupar, I'm hoping Ming can creep further towards two for me one for the rest this time round.

You're correct. She isn't standing.

Those eyes are just too close together! And that shiny face! How come so many people are taken in by him? I never thought I'd say a good word about Thatcher ... but at least she didn't pretend to 'care'. What you saw was what you got. This guy? I wouldn't buy a used car from him ... but sadly, there are so many that would.
