looking more and more likely that there will be a hung parliament, proving crazy chris and craig WRONG in their sweeping statements regarding a tory landslide.

I stand by my prediction of a Tory overall majority but now not a landslide. Around a majority of 40. Cameron's popularity will increase once we see more of him, especially in the debates.

Everything to play for in the election it seems. Sad to say I'm actually rather excited.

Why so aggressive? They stated an opinion, they never proffessed to have seen the future.

I'm still hoping for a Tory victory simply because Labour and Brown specifically have proved themselves to be completely inadequate and we need a 'change' (shame on me for using the C word).

Edit: 38,000th post and it came in Perspectives. How uncharacteristic!

because they were / are so adamant that boy cameron WILL win by a huge landslide. now the polls are reversing their earlier hyperbole and those of us sober enough not to believe outrageous polls are being proven to be the better judges.

What a silly stunt by Cameron - distancing himself from that lot over there in Westminster by ....um....crossing the bridge and sticking up a vote for change placard on the PM's route to the palace.

I don't often agree with Mandy but more PR than PM certainly sums up Cameron's feeble effort today. It's like schoolboy wheezes.

The Tories need all the popularity than can get to win this election. They still recovering from Labours 1997 Landslide. They could be blocked out all because of Labours majority. <_<

So the Swingometer on the BBC had a 5.5% (iirc, correct me if I'm wrong :kink:) LAB - CON swing since 2005 and they need 6.9% to win outright :o

It'll be a mighty tall order for the Tories and I don't think that the most wishy-washy Tory leader ever should be the one to deliver the biggest swing in history :P.

I'm pretty sure that the Tories will get in this year, I still don't know whether or not I'm going to vote though.
What annoys me is I am 18 this year but I can't vote because Iam 18 after the election. Unless there is a hung parliment. :teresa:

I think that it will still be a large tory victory, somewhere in the region of 70-100

The letter from business leaders and the recent statement from the idolised Richard Branson along with the support of most of the tabloids will propel Cameron into #10 with a very comfortable margin

There are 3 important issues for me this election that matter and labour fail badly at all 3

1) Tax

2) Immigration

3) Crime

In that order

bye bye Brown and good riddance

How have Labour failed on crime when it has fallen every year since they took office - and for the couple years before that for the sake of accuracy?

As for Branson, any customer of Virgin Media or Virgin Trains would want him to sort his companies out before telling us how to vote.

Branson only has a minority stake in Virgin Media

I know. It's about 10%. But he still allows it to carry his brand name so people associate with his smug visage.

Reported crime may have fallen yes but that is not because there is less crime it is because people can't be bothered to report crimes because it is a waste of time as the police will do nothing and most crimes like burglary an officer doesn't even bother attending at best you phone up for a crime number for the insurance company, trust me I know people who have been assaulted, who have been robbed who have had their sheds broken into and garden tools stolen who have just not bothered reporting it because they know the police won't give a $h!t

I very much doubt the amount of crime has fallen whatsoever, just public faith and confidence in the police has fallen, they are far more interested in harrassing motorists than they are fighting crime.

And as for crime clean up it is the oldest trick in the book, pull in a burglar and do a deal with him where police will seek a smaller sentence for him if he asks for 34 other offences to be taken into consideration (i.e the police go easy on him if he holds his hands up to $h!tloads of unsolved burglaries most of which he never did thus the police get 34 burglaries cleared up to help the clean up rates look good and Raffles gets a light sentence)

How many more times do I have to explain this? Crime is falling according to the British Crime Survey (BCS). That was introduced by the Tories in the early 90s and the method of collecting information has hardly changed since. A large sample of people - around 40,000 - are asked whether they have been a victim of crime, regardless of whether they reported it. The whole point of the BCS was to measure trends. It had the support of all parties when it was introduced because it was seen as a reasonably reliable attempt to do so.

Your examples are meaningless. It's like saying that the existence of left-handed people disproves the fact that most people are right-handed. I've been burgled twice. That doesn't alter the fact that, at the time it happened, the risk of being burgled was the lowest for decades and it has continued to fall ever since.

You can twist statistics any way you want but they don't lie, I don't buy it that people are simply too scared to report crime, I see nothing that suggests less crime is reported than under previous governments.

40,000 is not representative of 58 million though, even if the figures are falling for 40,000 they do not speak for the other 57,960,000 people who have not been asked

Crime falling for 40,000 does not mean crime is falling for the other 57,960,000. Millions of them might be the victims of crime and will not show up on this survey

Not too scared, just can't be bothered

If I was a victim of crime tomorrow I wouldn't bother reporting it to the police as the only way the offender will be caught is if he is caught doing 40mph in a 30mph zone

By that token you may as well dismiss every single poll ever taken. They make these things representative and take a wide scope of interviewees for this reason...

Exactly, on that logic all opinion polls are pointless and for all we know Labour have been more popular all along.
