f*** THAT ADVERTISEMENT. Also, I don't have a copy of Photoshop on my new computer, so you all get me trying to be faux-artsy and creative with Flickr and Deviantart images. Holla!

/ / / the idea

Buzzjack is a music forum, right? So what's the thing that brings us all together through trials and tribulations? No, not Lady Gaga, but a love for music. The idea behind the Buzzjack CD Swap is as if we were all friends in real life, making mixtapes for each other with super awesome music which we can then talk about and share with others. This event will take place over the span of two months, in which you have one month to create create, organize, and 'decorate' a CD for a random Buzzjack user, and the next month where you receive a CD anonymously which you then must review. Anonymity is the key to this all. Because you won't know who sent you your CD nor what bands/artists are singing the songs on it, you'll have absolutely no way to be biased. Hell, who knows, you may end up loving a band who you thought you hated! And through this whole process we hope that you at least discover one new song / band that you love! Sounds good?

/ / / the rules

As most of the people who have already posted interest already know, the idea of having this in the Indie/Alternative Forum is not to keep this strictly indie based, but to encourage the discovery of new music / songs that are not dominating the UK Top 10. I will not place any regulations on what you can and cannot put on your CD, but considering how long you have to make your CD, I hope that you carefully choose the songs on your CD and put some love into it, with the idea of sharing music you love that people on Buzzjack may not know about. I'm not saying you can't throw a Lady Gaga track or two on it, but expect to get chewed out if you have Baby by Justin Bieber on your CD (unless you're being ironic of course, then by all means).

So, starting today, you have till Sunday, May 11th to create a CD that is no shorter than 40 minutes in length and no longer than 80. Imagine you have an actual blank CD on your hands and you're burning some tracks for a friend. Stick to those rules and regulations. Also, this ain't no EP. I like CDs that are short and sweet but you wanna get as much music on your CD as possible. There is no limit to what genres you put on your CD or how many songs you decide end up on it as long as it meets the length requirements.

Then, whenever you finish deciding your tracklisting for your CD, you need to move all of your files to a zip file and remove all tracklisting / song information; I understand doing this can be complicated and difficult, but in a week or so I'll post a guide on how to do it with iTunes / a Mac; if anyone wants to create a tutorial on how to remove tracklisting information on a PC / another music player, please do so! Starting May 1st will be the uploading process. Please do not upload your album before then, as uploading sites tend to delete files after a while. You can upload your .zip file to any uploading site you want, however I strongly, strongly recommend Mediafire.com as it is not only simple, but fast. If you don't know about uploading sites, just use Mediafire. Don't try and get all creative on me y'all. You are free to include album artwork with your file as long as it gives away none of the songs on the album, though this is obviously optional. Whenever the file is done uploading, please PM it to me. Do not post the link ANYWHERE ON BUZZJACK. Links will be deleted and the user warned.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT POST YOUR LINK TO YOUR ALBUM ANYWHERE ON BUZZJACK.

Buzzjack could get in serious legal $h!t for your actions.

Then, on May 11th, I will PM your album link to people via a random generator which they can then download and listen to. You will have no say in who gets your CD. If you want your friend to hear your CD, just send it to them via MSN. I encourage the sharing of CDs after links have been passed out, but don't substitute the listening of your CD for the CD of a friend.

Then, you have till June 11th to post a review of your album on Buzzjack. Yes, this is REQUIRED. You must post a review! You can review the album in anyway you want to, whether it's rating every track out of 10 and then talking about it or doing a professional Pitchfork styled review, but it needs to be above 500 words in length and be well thought out and written. These people put a lot of effort and time and care into making these CDs for you, so show them the same time back in writing about it. It doesn't have to be praise, but be civil if you did not enjoy your CD. It's all part of the fun, try not to take anything too personal. If you don't get your review in in time, you won't be allowed to participate in further BJ CD Swaps unless you give me good reason as to why you couldn't write 500 words in the span of a month. The reviewing is a crucial part of this whole event as it not only lets the creator of the CD get some feedback, but it allows other people to ask for other CDs / certain songs based on the praise of others.

Once you post your review, whoever created the CD will then be allowed to publicly reveal the tracklisting / more artwork / talk about why they chose the songs they did. The only required part is the tracklisting, though.

I know that was a lot to take in in one reading and you probably have some questions (specifically on how to remove tracklisting information and such), but I'll post more indepth tutorials on that later in time when you'll actually have to do that. For now, just start creating a playlist on iTunes / Winamp / whatever you use and get some ideas flowing! Feel free to use this thread to talk about your CD / ask questions / get help with ideas / come up with themes (which are not necessary, but fun!) / just have a general chat about music. Just don't give away what songs you're using. We want this to be as much of a surprise as possible!

/ / / dates

(because this makes everything simpler!)

- may 1st / begin to upload your albums to mediafire / PM them to me

- may 11th / albums are due, no albums will be accepted late. review thread will be posted today.

- june 11 / reviews due / roundup

Also, there's no signup / limit to how many people can be a part of this. Your PM with your link to your CD will act as your 'signup'. If you don't get your CD done in time, you're not part of the swap? Simple enough?
Im already working on mine. wish i had more free time so i could put more into it.

I've already got 14 songs that I will consider for mine :)

And I don't mind writing a review, but I dunno if I could manage 500 words, even if I do have a month - I mean, I don't know much about the technical details. I don't really know if a track has good production or not.

I'm happy to take some screenshots and upload them, showing how to remove track information in Windows Media Player, if anyone wants to know

500 words isnt much at all, especially if you do track by track, i'll be shocked if my review is less that 500, the first 400 always go so fast.

I'm gonna bash one of these up today. Do I put them in a zip file and upload them to a file sharing site?

And we get to review our own CDs, fun!

yeah zip it and put it on a file sharing site, but you dont need to put it on a file sharing site until may 1st. and make the file sharing site mediafire cos its the best cheerz.

if i get a cd thats been uploaded to rapidshare and i cant download it for 3 weeks due to not being a premium member and there being no download slots available im gonna bash someones head against a wall.

If anyone gives me a shit cd, I'll send them a virus.
I hope someone will enjoy my compilation of NIN bootlegs.
Compiling my playlist now, chosen the tracks just trying to get a decent flow!

From past experience, I can tell you that whoever gets this compilation will be in for a real treat indeed.

Thank you :D It shares some similarites to the one you received (although none of the same songs) but I'm trying to really mix up the genres this time so that even somebody who has polar opposite music tastes to me should find something they like, although I obviously love everything that's going on there! Started with 27 tracks, need to cut out about 15 minutes...

500 words really shouldn't be too difficult. Just as a guide, my chart commentaries (if you read them  ) are generally just over 1000 words so the minimum is a little under half of that.

500 words really is not much at all. It'll take you like 10 - 20 minutes at the most. If you can't manage that, don't enter. ); I'm not going to make it smaller. If your album is roughly 20 songs you only need to write like 25 words about each song.

:drama: being a premium member i was gonna use Rapidshare as well

I've also already started thinking about how I'm going to approach my new CD Swap compilation. ^_^ There's a couple of ideas I'm going to try out and see what works/what doesn't.
