So Selena Gomez and the Scene are going to hit the top 10 tomorrow. Considering Miley Cyrus is supposed to be the biggest Disney star of our generation, it suprises me that Selena can do what Miley can't. Thoughts? Comments?

What is there to say? Selena has done really well, and perhaps exceeded expectations - whilst Miley has only got #11s...but Miley has made more of an impact on the world in general really - and when you say Disney to people in the UK, they're more likely to think of Miley than they are Selena.

But, yeah, go Selena.

I think she released it better...

She did the promotion here while it was only preorder, so when it came available there was a huge amount of downloading to get it up the chart for top 10 exposure.

Miley's released songs before promo and in times when sales are high, so it could be that one of her #11 sales are more than Selena's - but we'll see B).

Regardless of the 'disney' label, the song sells itself I think :P.

Agreed, it sounds way more respectable and mature than anything Miley's came out with. I think that gives it more appeal.

I don't think Naturally sounds like a typical Disney song...

That's just a fancy way of saying I like it. :P

I'm actually surprised (and happy :)) Selena will debut in the Top 10, a couple of weeks ago i thought this will just hit Top 40..

I'm really pleased Selena was able to achieve something Miley couldn't :P Hope she has a great career here in the UK :D

I can't agree. Naturally is good, verging on great perhaps, but it's still sung by somebody with a typically 'Disney' sort of thin voice and it doesn't sound to these ears at least any more 'respectable' (really? we listen to music because it's respectable nowadays? Must've missed the memo!) or 'mature' than See You Again or 7 Things.

I'm sorry but that's pretty absurd. I don't listen to music because it's considered "respectable" or whatever, but I think this is (especially compared to the two examples you gave as well), so maybe that makes it appeal to some who are ordinarily against the whole Disney thing?

Naturally is better than Miley's singles although I sort of like The Climb. IMO it also sounds more current than Miley's singles when they were released.

Selena's challenge is how to sell her album (Gabriella Cilmi?)

Most of Selena's songs are a lot more mature and have more credibility than Miley's IMO. An average listener would be turned off by Party In The USA or See You Again because they're Disney cheese, same for Demi (La La Land? Come on, the song is ok but srsly.. Don't Forget probably would've done a lot better I think) but I think Selena has managed to break away from the Disney image with her sound/lyrics which makes people more respectful I guess. I see quite a successful career for her in the future, and once the chart show comes on Sunday I expect Naturally to rise on iTunes :)

Perhaps there are people buying who don't realise she's from the Disney stable and usually would be biased against her sort of music, so on that basis they're buying it on the strength of the song alone, but I really don't think it's much different sonically from See You Again (the verses especially) and the chorus on this is pure 'Disney'.

I don't buy what you're saying Liam at all. The lyrics to Naturally are about as deep as a puddle in the Sahara and are exactly what you'd expect from a Disney starlet. I'm not criticising by any means, but it's how it is (in my eyes).

I will say, people vastly overestimate this. It's really no different from one play on Radio 1 any time of the day or week, it makes zilch difference.

Yes I agree, she isn't being marketed as a Disney girl from what I can see. Alex Russo also isn't as in your face as Hannah Montana either as I know people who wouldn't listen to Miley cause they're sick of seeing Hannah Montana

I think 'Naturally' sounds a bit like 'See You Again', but the video is way better and Selena comes across much better than Miley does. Miley has a very distinct country voice which can be a bit raspy at times and it puts people off whereas Selena's voice is more "current".

The lyrics to 'Naturally' are nowhere near as cheesy as those on 'See You Again' (as much as I love the song).

But she isn't playlisted on R1

They're every bit as cheesy, they're just not as silly as on See You Again. Any song containing a BAY-BAY-BAY-BEYEE in the chorus is not going to be thought of as particularly mature or respectable Aly darling.

Okay, whatever, but please don't patronise me by calling me "darling". -_-
