It's because the Top 10 gets a boost from appearing on the frontpage of iTunes.

 

When a song jumps into the Top 10 you'll notice that it starts to rise more quickly, and vice versa.

 

 

 

 

No, it is just a 'top-10' effect: once the song goes top-10, it becomes being displayed on the first iTunes page which causes free advertising, and a lot of people discover the tracks from it.

Exactly, which is why there's so much emphasis on a track making the top 10 of the iTunes chart. It gives it a major boost and the single pretty much sells itself once it's in.

can anyone help me? i was on the irish pop bars yesterday, and ever since then i can't get onto the homepage as it says 'your request cannot be completed on the irish itunes store' - i only want to check the UK pop bars!

 

I had exactly the same problem. It wont let me go onto irish itunes yet it lets me on ALL other countries itunes so it must be a problem with just Ireland. Do you mean you are stuck on the Irish itunes? If so, what i did was to just sign in on my UK account and it transferred me to the UK store (back to normal). It still wont let me back on Irish itunes though to have a look etc.
