June 11, 201015 yr I didn't know Sounf Of The Underground is the best selling GA single to date! :o And deservedly <3
June 11, 201015 yr Author I wouldn't really call it unfair. If we're talking of 'today' sales (mostly downloads) compared to 2004 sales (mostly physical sales) then how come a 3rd (and final) single from GA's latest album sells aprox 101k yet TS's fith single from their debut sells a few k more. :)
June 11, 201015 yr Author Because GA's sold a whole lot more albums. Not necesarily. 'Out of Control' = 726k 1st Single: The Promise (480k) 2nd Single: The Loving Kind (133k) 3rd Single: Untouchable (100k) Now compare that to.. 'Sound of The Underground' = 367k 1st Single: Sound of The Underground (625k) 2nd Single: No Good Advice (133k) 3rd Single: Life Got Cold (90k) (4th Single: Jump (222k*)) *Included in re-issue and in the 2nd album. 'Chemistry' = 382k 1st Single: Long Hot Summer (60k) 2nd Single: Biology (147k) 3rd Single: Whole Lotta History (52k) 4th Single: See The Day (69k) & Now... The Saturdays - Chasing Lights (317k) 1st Single: If This Is Love (107k) 2nd Single: Up! (311k) 3rd Single: Issues (245k) 4th Single: Just Can't Get Enough (254k)** 5th Single: Work (101k) ** Included in re-issue What this is supposed to show is that no matter how much the album has sold, the final single(s) are going to be low. Meaning just because 'Out of Control' sold over 700k is no excuse for 'Untouchable' selling just over 100k. Also, 'Life Got Cold' 3rd single (from their debut, selling over 300k [lowest selling GA album]) only sells 90k. Then look at 3rd single from 'Chemistry' (seccond worst selling GA album, also selling over 300k) only achieving 52k (dispite low sales at the time). So yeah, just because OOC sold over 700k, is no excuse why 'Untouchable' only sold 100k really. A lower selling album can have the exact same side-effects if you will. Perhaps this shows it's down to popularity of the song?
September 1, 201014 yr A lot of Girls Aloud singles would have sold more if not released in 2003-2007
September 1, 201014 yr A lot of Girls Aloud singles would have sold more if not released in 2003-2007 Factoid right there. I'd say ALL of their songs would be over 100k and a lot of them over 200k. You simply cannot compare the almost-dead physical market in 2004 to digital 2010.
September 2, 201014 yr 'Chemistry' = 382k 1st Single: Long Hot Summer (60k) 2nd Single: Biology (147k) 3rd Single: Whole Lotta History (52k) 4th Single: See The Day (69k) you made a mistake, Whole Lotta History was the FOURTH single, not the third (See The Day was third)
September 2, 201014 yr Oh this thread is SO ridiculous! Why compare the 2 groups?? As many members have already stated, the differences in sales are largely due to different sales periods (physical vs download eras). You therefore CANNOT compare early GA singles with the first Saturdays singles to draw up a fair comparison. Jesus, its not rocket science people!!!!! I just do not understand this incessant need to compare groups/artists....saying stuff like "oh GA 1st single has sold more than the Sats 1st single, which obviously shows that Cheryl is gorgeous and Vanessa is ugly!" (ok yes i was taking the p*** there, but you get what i mean ^_^ ) Grow the hell up people! Both are completely different groups, and have enjoyed immense success!
September 4, 201014 yr Impressive for The Sats. Really shows the vast improvement of single sales in the past few years. It is ridiculous that Just Can't Get Enough has sold more than Something Kinda Ooooh though! :P

I set this thread up just so we could make a comparison (sales wise) to see which group had the stronger sales. Taking into acount the single-sales-boom this year, (compared to say sales of 2004) has helped The Saturdays enormously. They've only released what, 8 singles and 5 of them are in the Top 10 of GA vs TS. It was not meant to reflect which group is better, and I think people know that.

November 7, 201113 yr Saturdays have done better than I thought compared with Girls Aloud. Saturdays are helped though from beign around at a time when singles sales are a lot higher than when Girls Aloud were in their peak around 2005/6.
December 28, 201113 yr Not necesarily. January 6, 201213 yr I think Girls Aloud v The Saturdays comparisons for singles are becoming more irrelevant as time goes on. These sales figures alone don't give the full story when it comes to what popularity their different singles had. For instance... 'Life Got Cold' selling 70,000 in 2003 made it the 92nd best seller of that year, but 'All Fired Up' with around 200,000 wasn't enough to make the Top 100 of 2011. The threshold for Top 100 in 2003 was just 65,000, but in 2011 it's 230,000. A 200k seller today just doesn't have the same wow factor as a 200k in the days of Girls Aloud. It used to be a rare achievement, but now it isn't... even a Gold seller these days is more common now than a Silver was back then! So personally speaking, 'All Fired Up' making it to 200k doesn't excite me to the extent it seems to for other members. I feel like that's the very least it should have managed! It's a shame that the sales were relatively poor while Girls Aloud were around, thus making their list of sales figures look quite weak - especially when you're used to seeing the kind of sales achieved today. For the times though, their sales were mostly respectable. The Saturdays are lucky in a sense to have been around when singles sales are higher, making their singles look bigger than the girl groups of yesteryear (Girls Aloud, Sugababes) when compared. However, when The Saturdays are compared to their current successful peers, their sales actually look somewhat average, if not a little on the weak side. I keep my fingers crossed for the day The Saturdays can add a truly huge hit to their list of singles, one that really stands head and shoulders above their other ones!
