I still have a gut feeling Mumford & Sons have a strong chance of winning this years Mercury Music Prize which could give them the boost they need. Their album has already hit no. 1 in Australia where they seem to be even more popular.

I guess they are picking up momentum, certainly more than You Me At Six and Vampire Weekend which are favourites with them with each release. However sometimes the release schedule at BJ isn't always up to date, and artists postpone their release and Radio 1 are the first to know that. Maybe that's what's going on with Aguilera.

i love this playlist. radio 1 no longer seem to be playlisting on name and name alone. why should christina aguilera be playlisted on the basis of her name alone? the single isn't doing particularly well stateside and hasn't gotten the best audience reception.

it strikes me that people here are just bitter that their preferred 'pure pop' preference isn't being particularly enamored by the people at radio 1.

it's such a varied and refreshing playlist. sub focus, stornoway, crystal castles, chiddy bang. pushing new acts through and supporting them (which is in essence, a key aspect of their remit). bravo i say...

The Sophie & Cascada snubs are justified imo. Cascada have bombed recently and well Sophie.....the less said the better really, as good as Bittersweet is she hasnt been comercially viable since about 2002.
Have you forgotten about 'Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer'? :kink:

On the danger list:

Adam Lambert – For Your Entertainment (no chance unless they playlist it after it becomes a hit)

Chicane – Come Back (no chance unless they playlist it after it becomes a hit)

Lady Antebellum – Need You Now (no chance unless they playlist it after it becomes a hit)

Christina Aguilera – Not Myself Tonight

Mika vs Red One – Kick Ass

Moby - Wait For Me

Beyonce feat Kanye West – Ego

Cascada – Pyromania

Groove Armada – Look Me In The Eye Sister

Miley Cyrus – When I Look At You

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Bittersweet

Toni Braxton – Yesterday

Train – Hey Soul Sister

Estelle – Freak

Fugative – Crush

Hannah – I Believe In You

Kaci Battaglia – Crazy Possessive

Keane feat K’naan – Stop For A Minute

Lights – Saviour

Mary J Blige feat Jay Sean – Each Tear

Mini Viva – One Touch

Ocelot – Beating Hearts

Agnes – On And On

Alexandra Burke feat Pitbull – All Night Long

Amy MacDonald – Spark

Atari Teenage Riot – Activate

Boyzone – Love Is A Hurricane

Katie Melua – The Flood

Lemar – Coming Home

Lethal Bizzle feat Luciana – Go Go Go

Sugababes – Crash & Burn

Kevin Rudolf feat Birdman, Lil Wayne & Jay Sean – I Made It

McLean – Finally In Love

McLean, Fugative (especially ), Kevin Rudolf & Co, Cascada, Alexandra Burke & Lights are my biggest shock omissions. mcLean, just because they supported 'My Name', which went on to become a big hit for him. Fugative, because he's just basically a white version of Chipmunk, and I believe it could have been huge with support. K-Rudolf & Co because it seems the sort of thing Radio 1 play nowadays, so not playlisting it is odd. (Still believe it'll go top 10 though). Cascada because like you said it's a new release etc.., Alex i've said my thoughts in her thread -_- & Lights because like I said last week, she's basically the female version of Owl City.

Oh and I thought after having a Top 10 hit and a big Top 20 hit, which was loved by Radio 1, it would be enough to put Example straight onto the C-list...

Fugative, because he's just basically a white version of Chipmunk.

Lights because like I said last week, she's basically the female version of Owl City.

surely you've answered yourself there why they may not playlist those two songs for those two very reasons?

Bah. :)

I doubt its got anything to do with Kid Cudi, they loved "Day N Nite". Its more to do with "One Love" flopping, and since dance artists don't have the same VIP treatment as some other bands, if you flop your next single won't get support. Luckily "Memories" did well without them so they're supporting him again.

But they palylisted 'Everytime We Touch', Delerious and 'Baby When The Lights' and they all flopped

Kevin Rudolf has been added to iTunes and is #101 already, it'll do alright even without support IMO.

I like most of the playlist, so instead I'm gonna list which ones I DON'T like (/ are boring / haven't heard)

remember some of those songs maybe on the radio 2 list

good to see the new vampire weekend song in the playlist - holiday is brill and very summery and it should be alisted by the time im heading on holidays so it will sound even better lol!!

i tend to agree with the pro comments about the playlist.buzzjack is very pro poppy music so im not surprised that people are frustrated but i like the way they play a good mix of everything - crystal castles-stornoway-dizzee-diana vickers!!

The people who decide Radio 1's playlist switch over every few months or so dont they? Which makes sense I suppose as to why recently they seem to making rather odd choices (to be polite) - when a few months back things seemed to be going fairly well for pop music on Radio 1.

The Sophie & Cascada snubs are justified imo. Cascada have bombed recently and well Sophie.....the less said the better really, as good as Bittersweet is she hasnt been comercially viable since about 2002.

Its the Christina and Alexandra snubs which are perhaps a bit odd. Christina's a major artist and Alex's album sold in good amounts, as have both singles. Always next week.

You say about Sophie Ellie-Bextor not being commercially viable since 2002 (last top ten 2007), but Christina Aguilera hasn't had a top ten hit since 2006

Exactly right. That totally proves that Sophie is a bigger star than Christina and should take the place on the playlist if it's between the two.

Where Sophie & Aguilera both rank on UK Airplay this week:

66 (90) Bittersweet

82 (NE) Not Myself Tonight

Christina hasn't released a studio album since 2006 though? Sophie has had one album and one top 10 single so it's not much of a statistic.

Christina has had worldwide sucsess to some extent with 3 albums though. Sophie's career has been on the decline for years now saddly :(

Sophie was huge in the first few years of the 200's theres no denying but to call her a biggest star than Christina would perhaps not be entirely truthful. Christina is definatly more relevent to a younger audience (imo)

Oh and to be clear - I like both records to the same extent really. Great songs but great artists but nowehere near the best for either of them.

Gettin' Over You
Would you say that the reason why they didn't playlist Memories was because Gettin Over You was to be released quite soon after? So they just went for the strongest/ more commercially viable? (Though I like both)
