Sara Bareilles proved she won't write a 'Love Song' for just anyone, and now she's back with another angst-ridden message about love. In 'King of Anything,' the first single off her forthcoming sophomore album, Bareilles vents her frustration about unsolicited love advice in a peppy, pop song.

"'King of Anything' is sort of a 'f**k you' song," jokes Bareilles. "I've had more unsolicited advice on my life than I care to mention, and this was how I dealt with it. It felt empowering to turn that frustration into music, especially a song that doesn't even sound angry. That's sort of what 'Love Song' was as well. Apparently, I don't get over things very quickly."

Bareilles wrote and recorded 'King Of Anything' in Los Angeles. The pop track, produced by Neal Avron, hits airwaves May 10 and will kick off the official countdown to the as-yet untitled album's September release.

Bareilles' debut album, 'Little Voice,' received two Grammy nominations for her triple platinum-selling hit single, 'Love Song.'

(you can also listen to it at that link!)

I think she'll always be a one-hit wonder, but it's definitely on the more commercial side of what she does. Not as instant and catchy sounding as "Love Song", but I'm loving it on first listen, could easily slot on her last album. (which is one of my favourite albums, this is good) Her voice is one of my favourites. for a white girl

I like this. But she reminds me so much of Daniel Powter. She'll unfortunately end up going the same way as him. But yeah on first listen this is nice, nothing more, nothing less...
Listened to this for the first time an hour ago, was quite impressed actually. Sounds like one of the better tracks from Little Voice! Sadly I agree with Jonjo, she'll do a Powter - although at least Next Plane Home managed to scrape into the top 75, which this won't

I really like the lyrics but the song is just alright. Maybe it will grow on me.

I still love her first album and her voice is brilliant.

I adore this  Maybe not quite as brilliant as Love Song was on first listen but I think I can see this just creeping up on me a lot. Shame she's heading for #158 with it but it's still one wonderful song - cant wait for the album!
Growing on me with every listen. :) I wish there was more of a climax and she did more vocally at the end of the song.

I agree with this, it's quite the grower, it could just do with a little extra something to make it amazing.

Meh never thought she was anything special tbh.
never really appealed to me. Love Song was a wierd one for me, somedays i would hate it, others i would love it "/

This isn't that bad actually but a bit on the bland side.

I love these white, female singers that emerge every so often with one major hit single then fade into obscurity [cough Meredith Brooks, Lisa Loeb and Vanessa Carlton].

Nice enough effort but Love Song still remains her best song and as that made her a one hit wonder unfortunetly i also think she'll stay a one hit wonder for now. I'd love for her to get another hit however. :D

I feel like she could have had a few more hits, Morningside and Fairytale were great songs, i dont know if they would have been top 10s but i think they would have been catchy enough to get some radio play.

06-22-2010 - KING OF ANYTHING SONG AND VIDEO ON ITUNES!

Hey all. I'm literally beaming as I'm writing this: The "King of Anything" single is available now at iTunes, and the music video will be up one week from now! Woodothoo.com!

There has been so much love for this song already...I can't thank you all enough for the support. It feels so good to share the music again, and I cannot wait for you to hear the rest of the record!

In other exciting news, you can also pre-order the new record, KALEIDOSCOPE HEART, and along with your pre-order you get an exclusive song off the record that nobody else will get (you greedy little bugger). It's a song called Carolina, and I'm proud to say it was the first co-write of my whole band and I. Yay boys!

Thank you so much for the love, and we'll see you on tour very soon!

love love love!

So the album is called "Kaleidoscope Heart" and is out September 7th! I was hoping the iTunes pre-order would have meant 30 second previews, but nope, oh well. Not too long now. (someone else be excited with me?)

Naturally I am, but most of my anticipated albums this year have been underwhelming, and to add to this she has the 'sophomore slump' potential, so I'm not getting my hopes up too much.

Can't wait for this! I'm not a fan of the name or cover but hopefully the songs are great. :)

This has leaked. Listening now, nothing's grabbing me and I'm up to track 9 :(
