May 13, 201015 yr I did qualify what I said by adding "if you had the time" - which you clearly haven't.
May 13, 201015 yr Anyway this is why I didn't want to write a full review of the CD and I think a simple rate of the tracks would have sufficed. When it comes to music I have to give my honest opinion and this review was diplomatic compared to the language I was using in the car!!!!
May 13, 201015 yr I'm wondering what the tracklist to Heart's Desire actually is. Reminds me of when underneath_it_all reviewed my very first CD Swap on ChC and he pretty much hated the entire thing.
May 13, 201015 yr I'm wondering what the tracklist to Heart's Desire actually is. Me too. I'm guessing Aaron or Shoat as the compiler...
May 13, 201015 yr I have a feeling I know who it'll be, and I'm interested to see their response. ^_^
May 13, 201015 yr Title: Black Flowers. Upon hearing the title I was expecting a metal compilation or something dark, what other kind of genre would have a title like that? "Welcome to my salon, the theatre of blood and goths" ... the opening line of a twenty five track album, and thus confirming my thoughts that this would be a sinister 80 minutes or so. A somewhat disturbing short monologue opens the album. At this point I'm starting to think this collection of songs might not be suited to a Eurovision enthusiast. A sort of disjointed grimey (if that's the word) rap song follows. Not my kind of thing at all unfortunately. A Joy Division-esque song next which is decent followed by a complete change of style - A jazzy, but gloomy showtune kind of number. Quite liked this one, sassy vocals. A very creepy 39 second interlude then which I loved - really want to know who this is  . Sounds like something from The Others! A very loud metal song follows sung by, I think, a female... Rather good I thought - I’m quite partial to some metal music. Reminds me of Auf Der Maur. The seventh track reminded me of Duran Duran bizarrely haha! I seem to recall it from when I was much younger, think it might have been a song my mother used to play on the record player... Not sure who it is though. Rather like it! A decent track followed, not much I can say about it really, apart from that I loved the backing vocals. Track 9 was a sort of soft punk offering which reminded me of Babylon Zoo slightly. More disturbing nightmare-inducing rock for track 10 before a rather beautiful rendition of Gloomy Sunday - I recognise the vocals instantly, so I’m sure it‘s someone I know already, but I can’t put my finger on who it is. Track 12 is by far my favourite so far, kind of New Romantic, but with a rock element. Wasn’t so keen on track 13, kind of like a toned down Happy Mondays. Track 14 is another one of those short interludes - once again I loved it! Quite possibly the most unbearable thing I've listened to followed - lots of grunting over a raucous guitar and drum noise. Maybe it’s that drummer from The Muppets?! A calmer song next, kind of OMD like. Quite liked it, but the saxophone spoilt it a bit. Never been keen on that instrument. XTC’s Dear God follows, really like this one! For a second I thought The Goodies’ Funky Gibbon had been included as the opening line to track 18 was almost identical. Another rocky tune, not one that particularly stood out to me apart from the very start of the song. Track 19 was great, but very hard to describe, had like 1920’s elements mixed with rap? Siouxsie and the Banshees who I rather like next with Peek-a-boo. Track 21 was like a comedy horror song, interesting but not a song I’d necessarily listen to out of choice. A similar but less comical song followed. Track 23 I also loved (apart from the “Hey ho A raping I shall go“ verse  ) , maybe it’s the same artist who did the two interlude tracks. Track 24 could easily pass for the token metal entry in the Norwegian national final for Eurovision. Wasn’t a fan of it I’m afraid. The compilation ended on a high note though with some music that often gets used to advertise these big American drama’s like 24 or Grey’s Anatomy. I think it’s called In A House - In A Heartbeat, or something similar. A piece of music I love anyway. Overall then, it was a fairly strong album - certainly would be highly enjoyable for a metal/rock music enthusiast. There were a few songs I loved and am really keen to find out who they are by. Namely tracks 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 14, 16 & 23. I’m sure whoever made this will be delighted someone with a taste like mine found at least 8 tracks on this album to be great. Not sure who made this as I don't know for sure who entered, my guess would be Severin, but whoever it was, thank you very much :D You did indeed have mine Ghosty and I must say I was pleased when I found out you did because although you love Eurovision (and my cd was pretty far removed from that) you are always open minded with music so I hoped you'd like at least something. Anyway, this is what you've heard/endured 1. The Beast (spoken word intro by Lydia Lunch) - Just to set the tone (oh and it's 'blood and guts' not goths utit probably could be ) 2. Tool And Die - Consolidated - Briefly popular in the mid 90s alternative scene. Kind of an Industrial/Rap/Dance act. 3. Destroy The Heart - The House Of Love - Late 80s Indie single that I hace always just adored for it's sheer simplicity 4. Lady Scarface - Lydia Lunch - From the Queen Of Siam album. This is one of her more melodic periods 5. Dark Wood Wakes Too (excerpt) - Current 93 - An snippet from the track taken off their 80s album Swastikas For Noddy. The vocals are by former Strawberry Switchblade singer Rose McDowell. There's a lot of their stuff like this but be very careful when investigating further. Their early work is more akin to Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV. I'd recommend starting with Swastikas... though 6. Spawn Of Dysfunction - Die So Fluid - London 3 piece whose singer Grog I used to go pubbing with in the early 90s. She was originally in hotly tipped Indie bands Flinch and Feline 7. Heartland - The The - From the 1986 album Infected. The band is basically Matt Johnson but has at times included Johnny Marr and gave Neneh Cherry her first taste of fame 8. Touched - Vast - Eastern influenced track from the one man band Vast. 9. Civilisation Street - Culture Shock - Ex Subhumans members ska influenced anarcho-pacifist outfit. 10. Dada 331 - Cranes - Portsmouth band who started of like The Cocteau Twins on bad acid and went all shoegazing around 1990. 11. Gloomy Sunday - Christian Death - I'd be surprised if this is who you were thinkng of but impressed if it is. The vocals are by former member Gitane Demone. This is my favourite version of this. From the Holocaust themed album 1986 Atrocities. They're crap now. 12. Love Like Blood - Killing Joke - So glad you liked this. Probably my favourite band in the world these days. From the album Night Time. If curious check out that album and Brighter Than A 1000 Suns. Be careful with other albums, brutal, pounding Industrial and post Punk lie within. 13. Beautiful Love - Julian Cope - From the album Peggy Suicide 14. Black Flowers Please - Current 93 - Also from Swastikas For Noddy 15. From Enslavement To Obliteration - Napalm Death - Didn't really expect anyone to like Grindcore but you never know  16. Hiroshima Mon Amour - Ultravox! - But that's not Midge Ure I hear you cry. No, it isn't. It's with original lead singer John Foxx. Thought you'd like this if anyone. Thre's also a version with violin and no sax but it's a bit raucous at the end. From the album Ha! Ha! Ha! 17. Dear God - XTC - One of my favourites from the 80s 18. Hammer Horror Glamour - Devilish Presley 19. Back And Forth - Dr. Steel - Steampunk/Dark Cabaret band that I've only just discovered. 20. Peek A Boo - Siouxsie & Banshees - My fave of theirs 21. A Gorey Demise - Creature Feature - Inspired by the cartoons of Edward Gorey in particular The Ghaslycrumb Tinies (all Tim Burton fans should check him out) 22. Human Fly - The Cramps - The invention of Psychobilly and Horrorpunk 23. Hey Ho (The Noddy Oh) - Current 93 - Same album 24. Nothing Is Under Your Control - Send More Paramedics - Leeds based Zombiecore outfit 25. In The House: In A Heartbeat - John Murphy - From the soundtrack to 28 Days Later Hope that helps and I'm glad to have at least pricked your interest in a few acts there. Again I was pleased you got it as I knew you'd appreciate it and not hate everything. I didn't really have a theme except trying to reflect some of my taste (sadly Betty Boo just didn't make the cut) and not make it too eclectic and disjointed. If you want more info on any of the acts ('m thinking particularly Current 93 who are obscure to say the least) feel free to ask. I'd be interested to see your reactions now you know who they all are by. Any shocks surprises, looks of bemusement? And thanks again :D
May 13, 201015 yr Is it yours? :D No, it's mine. The duet is in Italian by the way. Everyone is perfectly entitled to their opinion, and i knew when i saw who had gotten mine that it wasn't going to be to their taste at all. I respect your opinion on my compilation and i thank you for giving it a fair and unbiased go. What you said doesn't affect my thoughts on the songs or me personally. We all have different tastes, if we were all the same life would be dull as arse. The album title came from a Lyric in the final track. Heart's Desire - Tracklisting 01 || Delta Goodrem - Believe Again 02 || Natalie Bassingthwaighte - Someday Soon 03 || Jessica Mauboy - Burn 04 || The Potbelleez - Don't Hold Back 05 || Rogue Traders - I Never Liked You 06 || Anna Abreu - Music Everywhere 07 || Margaret Berger - Will You Remember Me Tomorrow 08 || Kate Miller-Heidke - I Like You Better When You're Not Around 09 || She & Him - In The Sun 10 || Tone Damli Aaberge - Here I Am (You Got Me) 11 || Mira Craig - I'll Take You High 12 || Yohanna - Beautiful Silence 13 || Anna Abreu - Letting Me Go# 14 || Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On Be Strong 15 || Delta Goodrem - Mistaken Identity 16 || Lorelei Carlson - Alone 17 || Molly Sandén - Karlek 18 || Nevio & Gabriella Cilmi - Non Ti Aspettavo (Libertá) 19 || Tone Damli Aaberge - I Know 20 || Yohanna - I Miss You I started off with an opening track, a closing track and about 60/70 tracks by artists that weren't from the UK that i wanted to include. I built the cd up by finding tracks that i thought lead into one another quite well and it formed quite organically hence the multiple tracks by certain artists. I make no apologise for my music taste, it is what it is. I like female lead tracks that fall mainly into the Pop draw. That's who i am and it ain't going to change anytime soon.
May 13, 201015 yr I got Severin's when we did this on CHC. It was very good then too. Perhaps, ghosty you could forward the link so I could download it.....if that's ok with you Severin?
May 13, 201015 yr I've finished listening to mine now and it's a well constructed playlist. It contains a lot of things I already know and a lot of things I already like too but there are still a couple of tracks I haven't heard before (or can't place) that I'm intrigued to know who they're by.

May 13, 201015 yr Have played mine once so far. Quite like it on first listen. A couple really stand out, a couple of acts I know already (and one of those tracks isn't as horrific as I'd expected) and a couple of tracks I can tell I'll probably never like. Gonna give few more listens though be fore reviewing fully

It just goes to show that we are all different and we should all be proud of our musical tastes. If anyone wants to listen to the compilation then pm me and I'll pass the link on. I will feel absolutely the same about the tracks I chose on my album whatever the listener thinks of them.
May 13, 201015 yr Looking at your track listing Silas, my cd is more mainstream than yours as in many of my tracks have been hits.

That one probably should have gone to me, I would have enjoyed it  Although I would only have made 2 discoveries from it (Potbelleez/Kate). One of these features on the compilation I made, no prizes for guessing which one.
May 13, 201015 yr I'd like to hear Severin's as well. Sounds right up my alley. And what track(s) did Neneh Cherry sing on for The The?
May 13, 201015 yr I'd like to hear Severin's as well. Sounds right up my alley. And what track(s) did Neneh Cherry sing on for The The? She's on Slow Train To Dawn. She's in the video too oE7qx5DnUMI Edited May 13, 201015 yr by Severin

I nearly included something from them on my compilation.

I will feel absolutely the same about the tracks I chose on my album whatever the listener thinks of them. Yeah, the opener is one of my favourite ballads and imo Delta's finest moment. Thanks, there's no reason to throw a strop about someone not liking a cd when their music taste is quite removed from what's on the actual cd. I love my music taste [as i guess you do yours] and i am proud of it. I wouldn't want to change it for anyone's Looking at your track listing Silas, my cd is more mainstream than yours as in many of my tracks have been hits.I tried to avoid things that had been released here in the UK where possible, i wanted to show the slightly less mainstream side to my music taste. That one probably should have gone to me, I would have enjoyed it  Although I would only have made 2 discoveries from it (Potbelleez/Kate). One of these features on the compilation I made, no prizes for guessing which one. After i finished i thought you'd love it, and i was hoping you might luck into. If you want it i'll be more than happy to throw the link your way. That goes for anyone else as well.
