Appealing, but we would quite like to have some consistency - HEAVEN knows we don't need people to start complaining that they're disadvantaged by the month that it is.

If it's a trade of consistency for fun then I'm behind swapping

tbh if people start complaining even after doing this decent thing then obviously they're just people who are never happy....

I just had a thought....

people are saying the reason they love the big final is because everyone can vote for everything.....

in that case why not take a leaf out of NSC's book (again)......

and make it so people in semi 1 can vote in semi 2 (and vice versa) as a sort of "rest jury" and a few songs (maybe 3 songs qualify due to rest jury and 10 songs qualify due to votes from the countries involved in that semi) would qualify based on the countries from the oppisite semis votes and vice versa.

How it would work is after semi 1 people vote in semi 2, the top three songs that didn't qualify as a result of the normal votes would also qualify. (and the same for semi 2 people voting in semi 1)

For example:

Semi 1 Results

------------------

1. FNT Nickodonia

2. Cadbury

3. Eledan

4. Mdice

5. Land of Jack

6. Kopecka

7. Dalisska

8. Ashton

9. Sangria

10. FSR Rontvia

----------------------Countries above the line qualify

11. Unoshake

12. Torchwood

13. Quotosibb

14. Dulpaen

15. Deandria

16. Xanaga

17. Hendenia

18. Espen

Semi 2 jury votes:

1. Kopecka

2. Espen *

3. Land of Jack

4. Mdice

5. Ashton

6. Dalisska

7. Dulpaen *

8. Torchwood *

9. Eledan

10. Hendenia

etc....

* These being the top three countries in the rest jury that haven't already qualified by normal means will also qualify along with the other ten qualifiers

If you're going to have that, why don't you just have everyone vote in both semis? The problem with that is enforcement...although perhaps if we enacted points deduction for those who didn't vote in both semis? That could be something we could try if the second trial of OBF doesn't get the 55%.

But inconsistency isn't fun. :(

It would hardly be THAT inconsistent....just two different formats and swapping between them.

It's not like we'd have a different format for every month of the year!

If you're enforcing voting in both semis, you might as well just have one big final anyway - it would still be the same number of songs to listen to presenting the same problems - and how long could the semis realistically stay open for, a week - so 50 odd songs in a week  Although I guess it would rectify the problem of there not being enough discussion...

It's things like this that make me think, any sort of attempt of change is a very bad thing.......because we focus more on squabbling than the actual contest. :/

Let's just shorten it to this and let it speak for itself, yeah? :P

Let's just shorten it to this

Shorten this too, it speaks for itself aswell

Not necessarily, because what I shortened it to for you was the main crux of what you were saying!

Vote in both semis sounds good :)

In a 7 day time frame? Can you imagine the uproar :drama: Unless there were 14 days for the semis and 7 for the final but that just seems like a ridiculously long voting window...

Vote in both semis sounds good :)

Seriously?! Why?! Voting in both semis means you're voting for the same amount of songs as a big final. Only you'd still have to vote in a final as well?

I'm sorry, but if you are going to do that, then you have to listen to all the songs.

It kills me to say this as it looks so illogical, but I can see where they're coming from - you get the excitement of a semi-final. I can imagine it'd make final voting dull as though - your votes would be essentially identical. You may as well just have ten days for semi voting and four for final voting...

I wouldn't be against this.

And at least then everyone would still be able to hear (and vote for, at least at some stage) every song in the contest.

Maybe something to look at for 28 if this doesn't work out? :o

That's a good idea really, cause everyone would already know the songs fairly well anyway. At the very least all they'd probably need is a brief run through of the songs but nothing major...so 4 or so days to vote on the final wouldn't be a problem

I like this idea :)

Me too! It's the perfect compromise ^_^

It's not bad at all but I still can't imagine it would be wildly popular with some people. It would bring some activity back to the forum but I could see these problems arising;

1) People still have to listen to around 50 songs, but in a shorter time frame than before  not ideal for those who didn't have enough time/fair chance to digest the songs in two weeks this time...

2) Leaving the final voting open for only 4 days might not go down too well - if people are away for a few days/busy etc...they'll be more prone to miss the deadline

It would be another option that would require consideration and probably another vote so I'd only use it as a last resort if the big final fails to get a 55% majority next month.

I'm sorry, but if you are going to do that, then you have to listen to all the songs.

If you have to listen to all the songs = you might as well have a big final.

It's easier to narrow down 25 songs to 10 two times, then 50 down to 15...

47 votes in, there were only 48 participants in BJSC26 (assuming it was these people who voted as it should have been)...so technically, the semi's option can't now win as it's three votes behind...and the discussion seems to be going round in circles now, there's not a lot else to say for either side I wouldn't have thought?

Having said that, it's going to be WILDLY unpopular if the mods decide to keep the 'one big final' seeing as it's more or less split 50/50 and equally unpopular if we go back to semis, so where is this decision going exactly? To fit in with my dates I was going to do the banlist from this coming Monday-Friday but I guess I could run that anyway if a decision's not made by that point? Otherwise BJSC 27 will have to be shortened or pushed back somehow.

I must be the only one not to have voted then :o
