He has attacked her he is claiming that SWY is only selling because Alex's fanbase are buying it because they like her and it has nothing to do with the song(he did not do the same to JLS, Jusine,The Wanted).R1 are free to playlist whom they want but he is clearly trying to stir up ill will against Alex you clearly have not gone on twitter to look at what some people are saying.It is sad to see both sides resorting to crude insults and Aled forgets that the BBC is a public service broadcaster not a private company for its DJ's and staff. :P

 

Show me where he has personally attacked her? Nowhere. Surely the fact that he is saying Alex's fanbase are buying it because they like her is not an insult to her at all (to the song? yes) it's actually a complement that she can sell based on her.

 

Perhaps he likes the aforementioned artists songs, and who is Jusine?

I came on cuz I knew there would be reaction to the whole Radio 1/Playlist issue.

They obviously have something against her. She is a perfectly good pop artist who makes pretty decent pop music (Im not big on the new one). Radio 1 claim to be a #1 hit pop radio station, blah blah. Also the fact that that welsh twat over at R1 tweeted what he did, shows that clearly they have a problem, otherwise, nothing would have been said. He's angry its doing so well without their support.

 

Personally, I think the license payers should contribute to what is on the playlist. At the end of the day its us that pay to keep the station running and we pay the guys who choose the playlist to keep them in a job.

They are notorious when it comes to the playlist. So bloody picky. But hey, gotta get used to it. All I can say is, well done to the fans who are supporting the song, going out emailing Radio 1 and the press, keeping going. And if all else fails, looks like shes still gonna be #1 at the weekend...

Anyone who thinks a song by a popular, young, British artist going to #1 without being playlisted by R1 doesn't make the station look foolish and out of touch is stupid.

 

Anyone who thinks Aled's tweets weren't intended to be malicious & vindictive is even stupider.

 

It wasn't long ago that being playlisted by R1 determined a song's success but Alex and the success of SWY has shown how irrelevant they have become and you can tell their egos have been bruised. Letting an infant loose on Twitter only succeeded in making them look worse.

to be totally honest, radio stations in dublin have not really been playing start without you much either. dublins fm104 and spin 1038 do not play the track

Come on, she's hardly Mini Viva or GCC. Hell, even Pixie Lott would struggle badly without them. I heard this song on 4 diff commerical stations within 30 mins driving back home from work.

I though Aled's tweet came across as rather tactless, whether this was intentional or not remains to be seem. But, I do disapprove of the response from fans. I'm a big fan of Alex but, from what I've read, the response from fans was inappropriate and will only put Alex in a bad light. I'm rather late to the party on this, but tweeted him around a half an hour ago and felt I should share it.

@ahj Here's the reason why I think Alex should be playlisted: She's a successful artist who's proven popular on commercial radio (2)

@ahj and the UK charts. It's hard for people to feel represented when you playlist people like Ke$ha over Alexandra. (3)

I'm yet to have a reply (which isn't surprising, given the lateness of the hour) but hope I do get one and have, at the least, shown that not all fans of Alex act disrespectfully when someone has an opinion that differs from their own.

 

On Start Without You, it's a solid song with a great melody and by a successful and talented artist behind it and seems destined to do well. It'll be another hit for Alex and I'm happy for her. Hopefully though her next single will remind some of the public that she is still a very strong vocalist, I've got my fingers crossed for The Silence.

Because the playlist isn't based on the songs, but the artist themselves. That's the fundamental thing to remember...
