Not read comments yet, but just watching on youtube and i'm LOVING Katie! LOL She's very Pixie Lott-y looks wise :o
I'm pretty confident (after watching the performances back), that auto-tune isn't being used! People need to work out the difference between auto-tune & a vocoder.
Same difference. It's designed to change/enhance the voice - and shouldn't be used on auditions.

Auto-Tune is a product name and is used in the same way as we do for a vaccum cleaner ..... H(h)oover.

Auto-Tune is a proprietary[2]audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies. Auto-Tune uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It is used to disguise off-key inaccuracies and mistakes, and has allowed singers to perform perfectly tuned vocal tracks without the need of singing in tune. While its main purpose is to slightly bend sung pitches to the nearest true semitone (to the exact pitch of the nearest tone in traditional equal temperament), Auto-Tune can be used as an effect to distort the human voice when pitch is raised/lowered significantly.[3]

As a side effect, the formant's voice type is absolutely irrelevant to the output so everybody (even those with an ugly voice) can create cool and futuristic samples :-)

You usually use a human voice as the formant and an instrument as the carrier. It makes the instrument speak. Good results can be achived with strings, brasses, flutes or any other sound with nearly constant dynamic. Even chords may be used to give the result more depth.

I kinda agree with the auto-tune claims.

Gamu sounded like Ke$ha in some bits, especially when she sang the "everytime I go by the telephone" line.

But I'm gonna believe it was purely her voice, also because I failed to hear the "auto-tune factor" on the other performances.

Can I audition next year singing Cher's "Believe" through an electric fan? :D

edit: OK, I heard it also on the satanic Mercy performer's "yeah yeah yeaaaah"s.

Shirlena Johnson = LEGEND! "Release me! Release us!"

In seriousness, Gamu and Katy were the only great ones imo, but Holly Burns on Xtra Factor as amazing! I do agree about the autotune too, my little sister who's 8 said Gamu sounded like a robot

@HolyMoly

I don't want to start rumours (!) but she was NOT that in tune on the press screening version. Definitely some autotune going on.

So how was it auto tuned, after the performances or had they done something with the microphones?
I'm so bored of reading about this auto tone everywhere. I was at the auditions and there was no auto tone people are just creating a drama out of nothing and jumping on a bandwagon.

Over on the X Factor forum on Digital Spy, they say it's the microphones

We realise there was no autotune at auditions... we've got enough evidence for this, but the autotune has been added on through microphones or something after the performance.

It was probably to enhance the vocals from tv it is very loud at the auditions and people were talking and shouting throughout performances. It is a typical British thing to do complain about everything.

Oh, how rich?! You go in every single thread and complain about everything! I've never seen you say anything positive!

this tbf

Also there is such a thing as turning up the volume of the microphone output if the audience were too loud.

There was something up with the sound as you could clearly hear it, but i put it down to ITV having sound problems as I they do have them sometimes.

Don't expect Katy to get anywhere fast, apparently she has a record contract under a different name in the US she is facing the boot. If the news is true

You clearly don't read all my posts then.

i definitely think there was something added to their voices to make them sound autotuney. why would so many people think it.. plus it's not like it's ever been said before it's only on this episode that people have said something about it. and i agree with robot the girl singing don't stop believing sounded the most auto tuned that's what made me think it. i read the comments of here saying that some of the voices sounded autotuned but i didn't really hear it but with that girl i definitely did.. hmm
I'm pretty sure I do a voluntary course in a wee centre for gay and lesbian, bi sexual and transgender people and I'm a manager in Burger King is one of the best lines I've ever heard.
